“I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Nicole, Keith, and the Greatful Dane Lodge! My husband, Shaun, and I had our wedding here this past weekend, and I’m so “greatful” that we came across this venue when we did. After touring nearly 10 venues, we were starting to think we would never find the one. As soon as we met Nicole and saw the lodge, we knew this was it. Not only is the pricing genuinely affordable for a wedding, but the venue itself is absolutely stunning. All 55 of our guests were raving about it throughout the entire night! We booked the Destination Wedding Package since most guests were traveling from out of state, and everyone staying on site was comfortable and had plenty of space. From the moment we booked, I never once felt pressured, rushed, or like we were being nickel-and-dimed for every little thing. Nicole and Keith went above and beyond to make our wedding weekend everything we hoped it would be, and I could not be more appreciative of all the work they put in behind the scenes to make it happen. If you’re looking for a venue where you’ll be treated like a person rather than a paycheck, and where the owners genuinely care about making your wedding special, TOUR THIS PLACE!! You’ll fall in love with it just like Shaun and I did. ️️ We truly could not recommend the Greatful Dane Lodge, Nicole, and Keith enough!”

“Choosing Stone Garden and working with Kristin was honestly the best decision we made for our wedding. The venue is gorgeous right on the river, and Frank made sure everything ran smoothly without us ever having to worry about it. The bar, the glassware, the restrooms, all taken care of before we even thought to ask. Kristin was our rock from start to finish. She helped us find our photographer, videographer, DJ, and caterer, all of whom were wonderful. And whenever we came to her with a last-minute idea, she just got to work. At one point we wanted a fire spinner at the reception. She went through the entire process of finding out what approvals and permits would be required, just in case we wanted to move forward. We ended up deciding against it, but I will never forget that she did all of that without batting an eye. I found out after the wedding that there were a few things handled quietly behind the scenes on the day. I had absolutely no idea. I spent the whole day laughing and dancing and being completely present, and that is a gift. I would not change one single thing. Thank you Frank, Kristin, and the whole Stone Garden team.”

“We held our wedding at Retreat Farm and it was absolutely perfect! From start to finish, this venue exceeded our expectations in every way. Our weekend began with a field day celebration the day before the wedding. Farmhouse Square was perfect for this, and the staff went above and beyond to help us organize food stations and arrange picnic tables. The staff made themselves available for the entire day and were friendly to our guests which helped set the tone for the entire weekend. Working with Samantha, the venue coordinator, made the planning process so much easier. She was incredibly communicative and patiently answered about a million questions from us. We were one of their Retreat Farm’s first weddings, so there were a few minor administrative hiccups along the way, but I have complete confidence these will be smoothed out for future couples. Samantha’s responsiveness and helpfulness were invaluable. On our wedding day, rain was in the forecast which was very stressful for us leading up to the ceremony which was slated to be held outdoors. We prepared to hold the ceremony inside the barn, which would have been beautiful in its own right, but then, the rain ended up clearing at the last second. Thankfully, the incredible staff had already set up the chairs and arch and managed to move everything back outside within half an hour (literally wiping down every single chair as fast as they could). We ended up with the most breathtaking outdoor ceremony as the clouds parted and the sun literally shone down on us. It was pure magic, and the staff's quick work made it possible. Additionally, the venue's beautiful outdoor spaces provided awesome backdrops for photos so we’re glad we were able to take advantage of them. One of the most unique and memorable aspects of Retreat Farm is the farm animals. We surprised our guests with a surprise donkey ring bearer (that the barn manager, Felipe, took the time to practice walking the aisle with), and during cocktail hour, the open barn allowed guests to interact closely with all the animals. This was hands-down one of the highlights that our guests are still talking about—the pictures that we saw everyone take were priceless. Every single person who works at Retreat Farm was exceptionally kind and professional. From the bartenders who handled the bar service beautifully (and even accommodated our requests for specific drinks on the menu) to the staff directing guests and everyone in between—the team made us feel so well taken care of. It's worth noting that this is more of a DIY venue where you bring your own decorations and coordinate most vendors. We loved this because it allowed us to truly make the wedding our own and put our personal stamp on every detail but recognize that this may not be for everyone. We highly recommend Retreat Farm for couples looking for a unique, beautiful, and flexible venue with character, charm, and the most wonderful staff (and also animals!)”

“Oh, where does one start when recommending them?! As a photographer, staff communication is so important when it comes to timelines, locations on the property, etc.. Everyone I came in contact was so helpful, kind, and genuinely happy to be there. I was informed on the timeline multiple times throughout the day, and could always find someone when a question arose. Something huge that seems small was dinner. Myself along with the other vendors were fed promptly (the best meal I’ve ever had at a wedding too), with a space to set our belongings, which allowed us to get right back to work and not miss a thing! It’s so important that vendors are fed quickly so we aren’t scrambling to get back out there. As a natural light photographer, the Inn was a dream. Beautiful fencing, giant trees for shade, two buildings to work with, there was no shortage of “locations” when it came to the portraits. Between, the staff, location, and professionalism I easily give them a 10/10, and hope to be back for future weddings!”

“My wife & I had the privilege to get married surrounded by our friends & family at the beautiful Montague Retreat Center in June of 2024. There’s a seemingly endless list of what drew us to MRC, but some key features to highlight: - Incredibly beautiful indoor & outdoor spaces - Comfortable, spacious, and accessible on-site lodging options - Flexible weekend buyout, enabling us to bring all of our ideas to life without much restriction or hurdles - Wheelhouse Catering: some of the best wedding food we’ve ever tasted in our lives - All of Montague staff, especially Jason Jason deserves his own dedicated review, but from the planning stages all the way through until the end of our weekend, Jason made himself available and ready to help. Jason referred several our vendors that made our day go off without a hitch, all of whom brought creative and personal touches that made our day so special. He consistently went above and beyond day of as well, from catching decorations that needed to be put out, to being hands-on assisting guests that needed extra help, and facilitating vendors to ensure everything was in its right place. His knowledge and general presence brought a calming energy that really helped us feel at home at MRC. For our wedding weekend (170 guests), we really took advantage of all we could at MRC. We observed first hand and heard from guests after our wedding that they felt they had plenty of space to enjoy themselves comfortably through the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception. With the full weekend rented, we used every square inch that the venue offered: - Friday: Portable Brick Oven Pizza in front of the Great Hall - Saturday AM: family provided breakfast buffet near the dining tent - Ceremony: Outdoor up on the ceremony ring - Cocktail Hour: Custom Poetry and plenty of activities all around the barn - Reception: Live band with stage lighting & sound; DJ later in the evening - Saturday Night: Late night fire pit & snacks for the wedding party - Sunday AM: Bagel sandwiches from Tandem Bagel in the lower level of the barn We can’t stress enough how perfect our weekend was at MRC. Montague Retreat Center will always hold a special place in our hearts, as it left a lasting impact on not only us, but our friends and family as well. At the end of our wedding weekend, many of our family members suggested that we rent out the space for a night every few years for a recurring big family bash. We may have to do just that!”

“I had been dreaming of having our wedding at Harrington Farm for years, and as soon as we went on our tour and met with Lauryn we instantly knew we were signing! The entire team at Harrington Farm made not only our wedding day but the entire planning process easy - there was truly nothing to worry about! Every step of the way our coordinator Lauryn was there to answer any questions we might've had and walked us through each step of the process with such professionalism and dedication. I have truly never met someone so passionate for their career!! Everything about the venue was beautiful, the famhouse, the grounds, and barn/hall. The food was absolutely amazing, we had so many people at the end of our wedding tell us how happy they were with their meal. Overall, I cannot say enough good things about Harrington Farm. They made our wedding day an absolute breeze so we could fully enjoy ourselves. There is not a single thing I would change about our day!”

“We feel so lucky to have found the West Mountain Inn for our wedding. We first visited about a year before our wedding and immediately felt like it would be the perfect place for our special day. We were greeted by the resident golden retrievers, who followed us on our tour. If you’re a dog lover, you’ll be very happy with this venue! But really, it was Amie, Mary Beth and the rest of the staff who sold us. We immediately felt like they cared about making your day as perfect as possible for us, which was very welcome after touring other venues which felt like they wanted to squeeze every penny from us. After we decided on the venue, Amie was so willing to work with people like us who wanted to plan every detail possible. Amie answered all of my questions and sent additional information like floor plans so I could plan who was assigned to each room as soon as possible. Her communication over email was so incredible helpful! We absolutely loved that we could have so many guests staying at the inn and knew that would be perfect for our winter wedding. Next came our tasting, which was such a fun event. There are two tastings a year, both in March (though I think you could have a private tasting if you need). We loved being able to stay at the inn for a night and meet all of the other couples getting married here within the year. As our wedding was in February, we had to wait a long time between the tasting and trying the food again, and it absolutely didn’t disappoint! Chef Jeff did an amazing job with our welcome party, breakfast and lunch the day of the wedding, the absolutely amazing wedding dinner (and late night snacks), and brunch the next morning! We heard that most couples have a hard time eating during their weddings, but we cleaned our plates! Definitely try the butternut squash ravioli, it is incredible! We had our ceremony in the barn, then moved to the bar in the inn for cocktail hour, then dinner in the dining room, and dancing in the living room. They take out the big pieces of living room furniture and move some chairs to the side for dancing. A lot of my family was skeptical about that, but the inn knows what they’re doing!! The dance floor was plenty big for our party of 60 (and I’m sure it could have accommodate larger groups), and the chairs on the sides were a huge hit! It was incredible to be able to sit down for a minute and still feel like you’re a part of the party. I know a lot of our guests enjoyed that as well. We got ready in the Norman Rockwell suite, which worked out well since we had a small bridal party. We also loved getting to see all the rooms in the inn - every room is thought out so well and has little details that are so fun to find! We thought the inn was what made our wedding weekend so magical and cannot wait to visit again on anniversaries or other special occasions. Thank you so much to the entire team - we are so grateful to you!”

“We had the most perfect wedding day at the Herb Lyceum. When we got engaged we knew we wanted a smaller, more intimate wedding and struggled to find a venue that welcomed smaller events. I came across The Herb Lyceum on Instagram and knew that this was the space for us. We held our wedding in the sunken garden, cocktail hour on the lawn and dinner in the greenhouse. The space was magical. They have a beautiful bar and cocktail hour set up. The greenhouse was exactly how we envisioned our day to look like. We received several comments that our wedding had the best food and cocktails of any wedding guests had been to. We are so grateful to the Herb Lyceum team for making our day so special. Tavis was so helpful, responsive, organized and calm during the process, she made planning the event so easy. I couldn't recommend the Herb Lyceum enough, it really is a special place. “Overall, I would highly recommend choosing the Red Clover Inn as your wedding venue. I have included some criticism to take into consideration, but in the end would not have changed my decision to have our wedding there. I have so much more to say, but am limited by the characters limit. THE GOOD PART The wedding weekend was the wedding of our dreams. Our guests were welcomed with open arms by the staff who worked incredibly hard. There were fresh flowers for our VIPs and all throughout the inn as a special touch and they truly went above and beyond to make our family and friends comfortable. We had planned a welcome barbeque that I thought would be very casual, but the staff really elevated it with their décor and attention through the evening. We got to enjoy the outdoor space under the stunning apple tree for our evening and the team put on a bonfire with s'mores for us. The bridal suite is my favorite room of them all. Bright, comfortable, and beautiful. We fit my group of 6 and a beauty team of 4. The day of the wedding was heavy rain all day long. We did have a rain plan in place and moved everything into the barn. The barn is beautifully decorated with ethereal lighted trees and candles throughout. It was an excellent back-up plan. The staff stood outside with umbrellas for the entirety of the ceremony and I don’t know what we would have done without them. We then moved to the cocktail hour and reception which were held in the inn. It was STUNNING. The staff did all the decorating with the items we brought and their own pieces, and our special touches to personalize our wedding, we didn’t have to lift a finger the day of the wedding. I did provide a list of decorations and my expectations for placement to help move things along prior to the event. There was a room for everything. We had dinner in the tavern, and after the meal, the guests used the other rooms, or took a break to their rooms while the tavern was transformed to the dance floor. The flow of the evening was so natural, and I really feel like the venue catered to every guest’s need with a quiet sitting room, a dancing space, and a space in between. At the end of the night, there was no clean up for us, the staff took care of the necessary items that evening, and we picked up the rest of the venue after our guests left the next day. The on-site accommodations perfectly fit our guest count and were comfortable for everyone. We got to appreciate every inch of the Inn and I am so happy we chose it. THE CRITIQUE We visited the inn 3 times through planning, and each visit was very productive, with Venetia’s undivided attention to chat through logistics and details, but we would recommend better communication when guests are not visiting. I did feel like I had to visit to accomplish planning items. Promised follow-up was rarely followed through. I did have to push on this when it began to affect our vendors (ie. Table dimensions for our florist), and ultimately we got the information we needed. Contracted timelines were also not held to through the planning (ie. guest room reservations going out on time). And the final critique was unclear pricing on a few things like the bar, a kitchen usage fee, and catering costs. The Red Clover staff was always responsive to our escalation, but I wish it didn’t require that. I highly recommend if you choose this venue, requesting clear deadlines and pricing stated in the contract.”

The Barn at Gibbet Hill
Rating: 5.0 (2 reviews)
Groton, MA
  • Up to 200 guests
  • Select services
  • Indoor & outdoor
  • Starts at $15,000

Set in a beautifully renovated and restored 100-year old barn overlooking rolling hills of conservation land, the Barn at Gibbet Hill is one of New England’s most unique venues for weddings and special events. The Barn offers rustic elegance with unparalleled views. The first wedding at The Barn at Gibbet Hill took place in 2002 when Jed and Asia’s fantastic outdoor wedding plans got rained out. Back then the Barn was completely unrenovated – hay bales were moved to the edge of the room and the tractor had to be parked outside so a makeshift wedding aisle could be made. After witnessing the undeniable magic of that day, the idea to transform the Barn into a permanent wedding venue began to take hold. Two years later, after a massive renovation of the Barn was completed, The Barn officially opened for business. And two years after that, CBS-4 crowned the Barn the best wedding venue in the Boston Area!

Why you'll love this venue

  • Provides a dedicated team on-site
  • Full catering menu to choose from
  • Rustic charm with elegance

Venue considerations

  • Large venue, not ideal for small guest lists
  • No free parking
  • No on-site guest accommodations
“We found the Barn when searching for an all-inclusive yet customizable venue (so our wedding would feel like us), with good food and staff that would make the day feel seamless. LGBTQ friendly was a must. Ultimately, we’re so grateful we picked Gibbet Hill! Furthermore, having a daytime celebration allowed us to have the wedding we wanted within our budget. Overall, the Barn’s team was genuinely invested in making our vision come to life, and they more than delivered on our big day. From our very first intake and tour, we knew we were in good hands. Our planner, Bree, was with us from the beginning, answering every question with warmth and confidence that immediately put us at ease. Throughout the planning process she was professional, responsive, and just fun to work with. We also picked many of the Barn’s preferred vendors, who all spoke highly of one another so it was clear they had great experience and flow as a cross-vendor team. On the day itself, the entire Barn staff operated with a calming efficiency that made everything feel effortless. They had a grounding presence that kept us on track without ever making us feel rushed and that tone made an enormous difference. Our top notch team, including Bree, Sarah, Jess, and so many other amazing staff also helped with our dresses, carried our trains, drove us in a golf cart for photos, and took wonderful care of our guests throughout the reception (who commented on how well they were looked after). We even found out afterward that the team had helped our flower girl tend to a wasp sting during the festivities. That kind of attentiveness speaks volumes. Any issue that arose they handled with utmost professionalism. Also, the food was fantastic and we STILL get so many compliments from guests! Our personal goal as the couple was to enjoy the food and that we did. One highlight for us was also the “reserved for newlyweds” appetizer plate brought to us in the bridal suite. Such a thoughtful touch. We cannot recommend The Barn, Bree, and the entire team highly enough. If you’re looking for a venue where you’ll feel genuinely cared for from the first conversation to the final exit, this is the place. Thank you so much to the staff at the Barn at Gibbet Hill for making our wedding so special!”

“Carissa, Lynn and the whole Hartman's team did an incredible job on our wedding. Carissa made delicious food and worked with us to dial in exactly what flavors we wanted to pull in from our respective cultures. Her cake was delicious and we could not get enough even after she set aside big pieces for us to take home. Lynn was wonderful to work with on the flowers and decorations. It was so nice to bounce ideas with her, hear her suggestions on the color scheme and what flowers she could grow or order or make for our wedding. They worked with our budget giving us options we felt happy with, mixing and matching some of the premium offerings with more affordable ones. We felt heard and welcomed every time we stopped by the venue in the months before the wedding and even since. The forest and flowers on the property were beautiful and lush during our fall wedding. We chose to rent the BnB rooms which made life so much easier during our hectic days. We could not recommend them enough.”

“Would give Timber Hill Farm 10 stars if I could, 5 doesn't feel like enough!! Thank you Timber Hill Farm team, especially Sage and Meg, for everything you did for my wedding! This team is awesome to work with, so down to earth and chill, yet on top of everything and super organized! I toured a number of venues in the NH lakes region, all different styles, but what made me gravitate towards THF in the first place was the demeanor of the staff. They weren't trying to churn out wedding after wedding like some other places I toured, nor were they down my throat with sales pitches, instead, they were personal, intentional and patient in the decision making process, while helping me see the beauty and personalization that their venue could have! Some people might be overwhelmed by needing to bring in all your own vendors to this venue, but the team makes it super easy with lots of recommendations. Additionally, I think so many people are saying great things about my wedding BECAUSE this venue allows you to personalize so much, especially if you're a DIY girl like myself ;) You're not just another ballroom wedding, you're whatever you want your wedding to be, at Timber Hill Farm!! The views, ability to personalize, and most importantly the staff, are the perfect combo for a wedding at the lake! I could continue to praise the team, but this review is getting long. TLDR: BOOK THF!”
