Venue considerations

My fiancé and I were looking for a rustic wedding venue, not a ballroom, preferably a venue with space to be outside (weather permitting). We visited a few options in the Philly area and fell in love with the John James Audubon Center! The space offers SO many options for an outdoor or indoor ceremony. They host receptions in the pavilion which is open with huge windows and firepits outside! The site is beautiful, and everyone we’ve worked with has been immensely helpful! After officially booking for our October 2024 wedding, we planned to visit with our parents. What was originally intended to be a quick stroll around the grounds turned into an impromptu tour with the venue manage. She answered all of our parents' questions and even brought out photo books of previous weddings for us to flip through together. With the wedding right around the corner now, we could not be more thrilled with our decision and can't wait to be there next month to celebrate our big day!

Barn on Bridge provided an exceptional experience for our wedding day! Amanda Frangoulis, our event manager, went above and beyond to ensure every detail aligned with our vision, including arranging a private tasting when my husband couldn’t attend the quarterly one. I provided a detailed menu that reflected my vision for a fall rustic wedding, and the culinary team executed it with incredible precision. For hors d’oeuvres, we selected salmon deviled eggs, southwest crab cake bites, lobster mac & cheese bites, Caprese skewers, and Mediterranean lamb burger sliders with tzatziki sauce. Our first course was an unforgettable butternut squash sweet potato soup with pumpkin seeds poured tableside over butternut squash cubes—a show-stopping experience! For entrees, we had spicy honey-glazed panko-crusted salmon, apple cider-glazed chicken, and butternut squash ravioli with brown sage butter sauce and toasted pine nuts, paired with kale & apple salad, garlic Parmesan green beans, and sweet potato mash (If you ever use these dishes, you’re going to have to credit Barn on Bridge and me!). Guests raved about the delicious and perfectly executed dishes, and I was thrilled to hear the culinary team plans to adopt some of my suggestions into future menus! Thalia, our day-of coordinator, ensured everything ran seamlessly and went the extra mile by preparing leftovers for us—a thoughtful touch that allowed us to savor the incredible food later. I also want to emphasize that successful weddings are a partnership. Often, dissatisfaction stems from a lack of clear communication, but this team is exceptional at walking you through every step. They genuinely care about your vision and execute it with precision. I felt supported, valued, and cared for throughout the process. If you communicate your ideas, Barn on Bridge will deliver above and beyond. I wholeheartedly recommend them for an unforgettable wedding experience!

Curtis Arboretum

4.6

Wyncote, PA
  • Up to 200 guests
  • All-inclusive
  • Outdoor

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Curtis Hall is surrounded by a 45-acre arboretum created by Frederick Law Olmsted, landscape architect for New York City’s Central Park. The “hall” is the original music ballroom of the 1893 Cyrus Curtis estate, "Lyndon". The capacity for dining and dancing is 200. Beyond the handsome wrought-iron entrance gates is a vintage setting of rolling hills, two ponds, an original pergola and 50 varieties of trees. Located in Wyncote, Cheltenham Township, Curtis Hall is just five miles from Center City Philadelphia.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Promotes a party atmosphere
  • Natural elegance with open spaces
  • Surrounded by nature

Venue considerations

  • No on-premises lodging options
  • Venue feels large for events with small guest lists
  • No in-house lighting and sound packages available
Curtis Arboretum was a breathtaking venue and the perfect backdrop for our wedding day. From the moment we arrived to the final dance, everything looked and felt magical. Our guests raved about the food, the grounds, and the overall experience. However, we did experience several disappointments that left us, as the bride and groom, feeling a bit forgotten. We missed out on key elements we were especially excited about, including the Seoul Kitchen station during cocktail hour and gelato chipwiches. While our guests enjoyed them, we never got to try either. The chipwiches were advertised as butlered to the dance floor, but never came out. After trying to get information from the coordinators, a bridal party member ended up making a tray himself and bringing it to us. We also didn’t receive several passed appetizers, the harvest table, or any table wine service during dinner. VIP drink service was inconsistent as us and our parents rarely received drinks from the staff. Dessert was served without notifying the emcee, so many guests (including us) missed it entirely. We only had the ceremonial bite of our wedding cake and didn’t get to enjoy any of the dessert stations. Sadly, the top layer of our cake, meant to be saved for our anniversary, was placed in a car staying overnight and ended up having to be thrown away. That tradition is now lost to us. We’ve shared our honest feedback with the venue and were met with a polite “thank you, we’ll share this with the staff,” along with a pitch to book another event. While these issues didn’t ruin our day in the slightest, they did impact our experience as the couple. Future couples: advocate for yourselves and confirm all promised services in writing to ensure you get what you’re paying for!! Curtis Arboretum is a beautiful venue, and we’re grateful for the memories, but we hope future weddings receive more attentive service for the couple at the center of it all.

Our wedding at Terrain Gardens at DelVal was absolutely perfect! It was a dream!!! I’m breaking it down below because Terrain exceeded my expectations in every category possible. I cannot recommend them and this venue more highly. Food: This was probably the most important thing to me and my then fiancé when picking a venue. I wanted my guests to say, “wow, this is the best food I’ve ever had at a wedding!” …Well, goal accomplished! I heard that multiple times and people are still raving about the food weeks later!! The cocktail hour was extravagant and extensive!! And the dinner did not disappoint! Dessert was amazing as well. I don’t know what else to say but it was sooo much food and sooooo delicious! Venue space: It’s spacious and absolutely beautiful. I had about 165 guests (176 is the max) and it worked perfectly! The long farm tables layout for dinner is stunning. The dance floor area is huge. The outdoor space is perfect and a lot of my guests hung out out there throughout the evening. They set up a bar and s’mores by the fire pits outside so it made the space very usable and welcoming. We had our ceremony inside because it was in July and I didn’t want guests to be hot and that worked out well, the front half of the room had chairs while the back half had cocktail tables set up where people could stand and enjoy their drinks during the ceremony - which worked great with the margarita greeting we selected! Wedding Coordinator: At Terrain included with your wedding you are assigned a coordinator after booking your date. I can’t tell you what an incredible value I felt like this was! Our coordinator, Matt, was absolutely amazing and there’s no way our wedding would have been the dream it was without him! Matt and the Terrain team went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and satisfied with everything involving our big day. We met with Matt every month or so leading up to the wedding and had clear things to work on, discuss, and decide for each meeting - this high level of organization made planning so much easier, more efficient, and more enjoyable! The day of we also had Morgan join Matt in coordinating, everything seemed to flow so smoothly and effortlessly and I know that’s only due to how hard they were working behind the scenes!! As the bride, I didn’t have to worry about a thing, they made everything go off without a hitch and took such good care of me! Terrain Design (Florist): I used Terrain Design for my florals and worked with Stephanie - I can’t express how impressed and overwhelmed I was with her and her team’s work. I am very particular and threw a lot of pretty unique ideas out there. I cried the second I first walked into the venue!! I was so blown away by the table settings. The bud vase and candle table scapes created the most beautiful, whimsical scene. Stephanie and her team worked some magic to deliver everything I’ve ever wanted but could have never envisioned myself. It still amazes me how well she understood my vision and made it come to life beautifully! Thank you so much Terrain for making all my wedding dreams come true, making my big day so incredibly special, and for being so kind and accommodating throughout it all!

The food was excellent, the venue was beautiful, and it even worked comfortably for our wedding count of 85. We cannot thank Jamie and Kathy enough for making our vow renewal so special. The whole day felt like it was straight out of a movie. From the very beginning of planning, they were clear, organized, and thoughtful. Every detail was seamless, from being transparent about pricing from the start to the end of brunch when one of our friends arrived late and their team made him a breakfast sandwich so he would still have something to eat. That kind of care did not go unnoticed. From the moment we walked into the hotel and the front desk greeted us with such warmth, I felt so welcomed I actually cried. The little touches like apples and water for guests, the amazing bartenders on our first night at the cafe bar and at our event in the Montrose Mansion, the care their team took with the gift bags, and making sure everyone fit comfortably into the venue all meant so much. And the food… it was impeccable. Both dinner and brunch were better than anything we could have dreamed up. It is a huge testament to their organization and communication skills that we were able to plan the entire event from California without worry. There are no words to describe how thankful we are. Jamie, Kathy, and the team at the Inn at Villanova made our weekend unforgettable, and we feel so lucky to have worked with them. Tristan & Sean

Matt and team were very easy to work with throughout the whole process from booking the space, choosing the menu, accommodating for food allergies and night-of service. The food, of course, was delicious! And the staff was so attentive and took care of us the whole night. All our guests had a great time. Highly recommend booking your next event at the Plum!

We got married at Osteria July 2024 and it was the most magical experience. Communication with the whole team throughout the whole process was easy, and Fiona offered so much helpful guidance in navigating and planning the day as a bride with no wedding planner/coordinator. Between the food, cocktails, greenhouse, and overall intimate ambiance it was the best decision we could have made to starting our life together, as we now have a place to go for all of our future celebrations.

From the first time we toured La Luna, Mark, Karen, and their staff were incredibly kind, helpful, and personable. They were able to accommodate our bicultural family with a bilingual DJ and menu items that were not listed on their menu, and everything at our reception was laid out with care and attention to detail. Our wedding party also stayed at the manor house for our entire wedding weekend, which was so much fun and so perfect!! We would absolutely recommend La Luna to anyone looking for an amazing place to host their special event, that is also reasonably priced and includes so much in their packages. My partner and I were recently married end of 2023 at The Madison and it was everything we hoped our wedding day would be and more! Everything was truly perfect-- from the stunning venue, rock-star wedding coordinator, 5-Star dining and phenomenal staff. There is a saying that goes “people may not remember what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel”. I suppose that is a perfect place to start. From the moment we stepped into the The Madison for our initial tour, wedding coordinator Thomas made us not only feel completely comfortable but also that he was just as excited as we were to plan our wedding. His energy and passion made us confident that we not only had found the venue we desired, but the staff as well. Through months of planning he was 100% on top of every detail. There was no stone left unturned as he helped guide us to creating the wedding of our dreams. On the actual wedding day, Thomas and the staff at The Madison collaborated so seamlessly with all of our vendors. Everyone was completely in tune with our vision and made sure the execution was perfect. Our bartenders and the wait staff were 100% on point the entire night and all of our guests complimented how well the service and food was! As for the atmosphere of the venue itself – absolutely stunning! We were married outdoor by the fireplace shortly after sunset. Words cannot give justice to how breathtaking this backdrop was and it was the most romantic setting to exchange our vows. We would strongly recommend reviewing some of the pictures on their Instagram account so you can see how truly beautiful this space is. We were concerned about the cold since we did get married in the heart of winter, but there were ample heaters aligned around the seats so our guests remained comfortable and the fireplace by our side kept us warm through the entire ceremony. We cannot thank The Madison enough for making sure our wedding day was perfect!
