Every person has innate interests and passions, and I recognized from a very young age that creating beauty in my surroundings was something that I wanted to be a part of my life forever. Making flower crowns from dandelions I found outside was a staple pastime of my childhood. I love to create… I’m in my happy place when I’m able to create. My career in floral design started while I was still in college obtaining a business degree. Like a lot of college students, I spent my summer interning in an office environment…and quickly realized that wasn’t how I wanted to live my life. I needed something different, something that would allow me to more fully utilize my creativity and desire to design. When I returned to campus in the fall, I started working part time at a small floral shop. It wasn’t long before I knew I’d found my love and my passion.

Oberer's Flowers beginning goes back to the 1890s when Carl Oberer, an immigrant from Germany bought a plot of land north of Dayton on Troy Pike and started growing vegetables. He grew lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, and sold them at market in downtown Dayton. This was called "truck gardening" which contrary to common belief has nothing to do with trucks at all. An old meaning of the word "truck", derived from the French word torquer, is "to barter or exchange". It wasn't long before Carl gained reputation for having the best tasting vegetables in the city.
