Cake Hero

5.0

Brooklyn, NY
  • Cakes & desserts
  • Starts at $2,000

Based in Brooklyn, self taught sugar artist Melissa Torres knows that there’s nothing like a gorgeous and delicious treat to take your party to the next level! With a commitment to using organic, fair trade ingredients, Cake Hero confections are beautiful and delicious delights that you can feel good about. Your purchase of a Cake Hero cake means that together, we are a force for good in our business and purchasing practices. We extend this way of thinking to our packaging, and use recycled boxes and paper whenever possible. Melissa’s unique take on cake has caught the eye of Vogue, New York Magazine, and many stylish events in NYC & beyond.

True story -- when people first came up to the reception area from the separate space where we held cocktail hour to find their seat at our wedding, everyone immediately rushed to see Melissa's beautiful cake. I have photos of a huge crowd gathered around the cake, everyone's phone was out taking pictures as if this was a celebrity sighting or something! People literally had to be told several times to get to their seats because they were literally in awe of the amazing cake. The cake also tasted incredibly delicious, and the buttercream frosting was a huge hit. Melissa really goes out of her way to create incredibly intricate and magical designs and it's something we will remember for the rest of our lives! Her and her husband also delivered the cake to our venue directly and even got in touch directly with our venue contact weeks in advance to coordinate. They were super organized and knew just how to handle everything. Plus she uses all fair trade ingredients so you will actually be contributing to sustainable agriculture.

Gregory Wilson

5.0

Brooklyn, NY
  • DJ
  • Starts at $1,500

My love of music started in the back seat of my dads car as he took me to daycare, with Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin On" on repeat. My love of music spans generations, cultures and genres, and has taken me all over the world, from England, Spain, St. Marteen, and Austria. My hope is that you allow me to curate a musical experience that will leave your guest talking about your wedding for years to come. As for me, I am a Brooklyn native, who during the pandemic was able leave corporate career to pursue my passion of music. My perspective, is to include and create, safe spaces for guests to feel young, and carefree - even if for a few moments.

If you think you are going to get a run of the mill Dj, who just stands behind the booth, look else where. Gregory IS THE PARTY, not only is he versatile with genres but also play songs from the 70's and 80's to current Pop and Afrobeats, truly his musical vocabulary is quite unmatched. Which is why we wanted him at our wedding. and he did not disappoint. At our wedding he danced bachata with guests, he sang with parents, he hosted a dance completion and, literally was the talk of the day for weeks to come. For us, we opted to get the largest package which included bringing not just 1 but 3 of his Dj colleagues, and 4 Speakers running music in three different spaces within the venue. Cocktail hour was a live Brooklyn Brunch Themed Set, with DJ Thematics Inside was a Jazz playlist for our older guest who wanted to stay and chat And an all party in the evening as he plays along side Dj Mastermind & Dj Blackout. All of which was a separate location from the ceremony space which had its own amplification. I have nothing else to say but 5 Stars across the board

Hi, I'm Kayla! I'm so glad you're here! I was asked to talk about why I'm passionate about my work. Well for one, I love meeting new couples. It brings me a lot of joy creating images for couples who want to preserve timeless memories. It's not just about the images but really connecting with my couples to make sure to make sure they have an effortless experience with me.

Working with Kayla from the start was a breeze. She was responsive and so caring (considering all the “what if’s” during the covid 19 pandemic). Her and her husband took the most incredible photographs of us at our wedding. They truly captured us as a couple and we plan to use them for any/all future events! THANK YOU SO MUCH

Florescent is a NY based floral design studio founded by Samantha Smerconish. Forever inspired by the colors, textures, movement, and femme elements of natural materials - Florescent’s team promises to transform your brand, event, or bedside table into a botanical dreamscape.

Awarded Best of Zola
We had the absolute best experience working with Florescent and Sam for our wedding! I truly cannot say enough great things about them! I came to Sam with the idea of doing a colorful meadow for our altar but the issue was that the inspo pictures I had for this were from a VERY pricy Lake Como wedding. But Sam came to the rescue and figured out a way to make my floral dreams come true on my much more limited budget! She worked hard to come up with ways that the flowers could be repurposed and used in different ways throughout the venue following our ceremony. She took all of my notes about the colors of flowers I was interested in and completely exceeded my expectations without much more direction from me! She came up with the most beautiful combinations of flowers in the arrangements and bouquets she created and totally blew us all away! When I first walked into our wedding venue I was completely amazed by what Sam and her team did and how their amazing work transformed the space and brought my dreams to life. I cannot thank Sam and her team at Florescent enough and I also cannot recommend them more highly! Thank you, thank you, thank you Sam and Florescent!!!

Vik Photography

Central to the art of capturing our most treasured moments in a non-manufactured fashion is the photographer’s ability to put his subject at ease. Vik approaches his work holistically with this in mind. His photography is unforced and confidently guided by his artistic vision, recognizing that more is at stake than a photograph. His sensitivities extend beyond lighting, pose, and composition, reaching deeper into mood, context, and flow.

Awarded Best of Zola
Vik was a pleasure to work with! We felt relaxed around him and his easygoing demeanor made us feel more natural when posing for photos. A big reason why we chose him was for his style—documentarian, intimate and not overly posed. He has a great eye and was able to capture so many beautiful, candid moments in our wedding. We're so happy with the photos and feel lucky to have had Vik document our day. Thank you!

Angelica captured our special day absolutely perfectly. We had hired her for our wedding that was supposed to happen in 2020 but had to be rescheduled for 3 years later due to the pandemic and through that entire time she stuck with us! She was communicative and responsive, and her shots were absolutely gorgeous. She managed to capture every single important moment of our celebration and the way she guides and corrals everyone into taking pictures that look good is nothing short of a miracle (trust me, I feel so awkward in front of the camera and I look incredible in all of my wedding shots.) Hello! Thank you for visiting my page. Candid moments, humor and a refined eye are the hallmarks of my photography. Hard work, experience and a love for what I do make it all come together. Born in Minnesota I road-tripped to New York City some 15 years ago to pursue my photography dreams. My then-girlfriend of 2 weeks, Lisa, was riding shotgun in the U-Haul. Fast forward to today and I am blessed to call Lisa my wife and Brooklyn our home. We have two wonderful girls, Ava and Ruby, that bring me endless joy. I’m hopelessly addicted to tennis! My door is always open to new ideas and projects. Please drop me a line. Josh

Josh is by far the most professional, creative, and easy to work with photographer ever!!!! He does an amazing job capturing all the little moments of your wedding day that you'll treasure forever. The grandmother's smile, your dad tearing up when he sees you in the dress, the partner's face when you walk down the aisle, your best friend's listening to the toasts, that hidden kiss from your new husband ... the list goes on. If you want the specialness of your day captured with an artistic eye who knows how to get those shots -- (vs. endless posed couple shots) then Josh is the photographer for your wedding. Center for Brooklyn History

5.0

Brooklyn, NY
  • Venue
  • Up to 100 guests
  • Select services
  • Indoor
  • Starts at $4,250

Founded in 1863, Center for Brooklyn History, formerly Brooklyn Historical Society (BHS) is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the borough’s 400 year history. Located in the heart of historic Brooklyn Heights steps away from the Brooklyn Promenade, the building is a national historic landmark and features timeless architectural details including stained glass windows, soaring ceilings and hand carved woodwork. The building has been renovated with state of the art modern facilities. Whatever your needs, Center for Brooklyn History can tailor a space rental package. Stately columns and soaring ceilings are the focus of the striking first-floor space, while the elegant Othmer Library, a New York City interior landmark, will make your celebration one for the books!

Why you'll love this venue

  • Dressing room available
  • Classic elegance
  • Historic touches

Venue considerations

  • Not for you if you are drawn to more unconventional venues
  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • Does not allow pets
Our experience with CBH was nothing short of perfect! We had a small 54-person cocktail hour and reception, both in the Othmer Library, and we could not have dreamed of a more perfect space. The overall atmosphere of the library was incredible, and we leaned hard into the old-world feel of the space. Our guests were in awe when they walked in, and the fact that we were able to be involved every step of the way made it so special. CBH works exclusively with Purslane as their caterer, and all communication was done through Purslane, who are also amazing and make fabulous food. (We had many raving guests.) They also help arrange all the rentals, create the run of show, and ensure the night is running along as planned, which it did! A few things we weren't expecting: - The library itself is on the smaller side, so if you want to have dinner and dancing there, you're looking at 60 people tops. This worked out fine for us with plenty of room for a dance floor, but we did have to significantly cut our guest list. - Since the building is a historical landmark, no food or drink that could stain (red sauce, red wine, coffee, etc.) was allowed. This never bothered us, and none of our guests even noticed since we had a fully stocked bar and incredibly delicious food. - We were required to hire a professional day-of coordinator. This was not part of our budget, so be prepared if it's not in yours either. We ended up working with Mostest since they were the least expensive service we could find, and they were amazing. It turned out to be so useful to have our DOC there, so we're happy this rule was imposed, as it led to a seamless night! - The library set up a new exhibit a few weeks before our wedding in the Fransioli Gallery where we were to have our cocktail hour, and we did not know what it would constitute until a few weeks out. We ended up deciding the contents of the exhibit weren't very well suited to a wedding, and CBH/Purslane were incredibly accommodating, offering to put up pipe and drape or move the cocktail hour. We chose to move it to be in the Othmer and were so happy with that decision. Overall, CBH is a 10/10! Our wedding felt like a dream, and anything we had to sacrifice was far outweighed by the stunning space. We would highly recommend CBH as a venue if you're looking for a more intimate night with immaculate vibes!

Marinelli Moving Pictures

5.0

Brooklyn, NY
  • Videographer
  • Storytelling style
  • Starts at $900

Hi! I’m Ashley Marinelli, a professional dancer who originally started making films after performing in movies and music videos. My father always encouraged me to pursue my passion for film, and when he passed in 2014, I started Marinelli Moving Pictures, a video production company with his name (and mine) on the masthead. A decade later, what started as a side jobs between dance gigs has turned into a full fledged business. Turns out I'm even happier behind the camera than in front of it!

Ashley did an amazing job on my son's 8th grade graduation video. She used multiple cameras which gave fantastic vantage points. The video was artistic with music, images, and behind the scenes footage. In addition to the feature film, she provided a highlight video. She's extremely professional, responsive, and very easy to work with. I will definitely hire her again and highly recommend her.

Located just under the Manhattan Bridge, the restaurant offers unparalleled views of the downtown city skyline. Executive Chef Angelica Ampil serves seasonal, soulful fare that draws inspiration from the Mediterranean coastline, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. This focus is mirrored in our wine list which highlights small coastal Mediterranean producers. Our bar program similarly marries the flavors of the spice route with classic cocktails. We are proud to be located within a LEED Gold Certified building and to be a part of the DUMBO community.

We are so happy we found Celestine and could host our wedding there! When we first came across this venue, we instantly knew that it ticked all of our boxes. The views of the Manhattan Bridge and the downtown Manhattan skyline are gorgeous, the Mediterranean-style food is fantastic, and the staff is professional and attentive. We visited several times before the wedding to sample the menu and treat friends and family to a great time, and we were consistently impressed with the quality and the service. Working with the Celestine events team, Nisrine, Kirsten, and Krystle, was a breeze. During the entire period leading up to the wedding, we were in constant contact and had several meetings, which made us able to relax throughout the process, knowing that everything was completely under control. We had our separate day-of coordinator who integrated seamlessly with the Celestine team, and Krystle, our Celestine coordinator, on the wedding day. Once the big day came around, we could not have been more prepared and at ease. Everything worked and turned out as beautiful and perfect as we had hoped! Many of our guests have said (and are still telling us!) that this was one of the best weddings they have ever been to, with many of their compliments directed towards the venue, food, and staff. Among all the other wedding venues in DUMBO, Celestine stands out as a true gem. It has everything we could have wished for in a very intimate, beautiful setting that will leave memories for a lifetime and have us coming back for more!

We coalesce traditional European techniques with modern American innovations to produce a variety of classic & progressive beers. We make the kind of beer we like to drink - a lot of lager with a smattering of west coast/hazy IPAs, sours, mixed fermentation & English-style ales, plus other unique seasonal offerings. The majority of our beer is low in ABV and none of our beer is overly sweet or loaded with adjuncts. Our mission is to push boundaries and open new doors for anyone who’s remotely interested in beer. We do this by producing a diverse range of lagers & ales with balanced and complex, yet approachable flavors and the utmost dedication to quality control. Our taproom is open daily for indoor or outside seating and beer to go.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Has a relaxed and casual vibe
  • Provides event staff
  • Has a dance floor to dance the night away

Venue considerations

  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • No on-site bridal suite
  • On-site parking not available
We threw a February wedding at Wild East on a Sunday, with a guest count of 120. We rented out the main Taproom and the Cellar for a 4pm start, kicking off with a 20-minute ceremony, then a floating dinner with two food stations, toasts, cake-cutting, and a dancefloor to keep things going. It was a lot to pull off, and Wild East Brewing was the perfect space to do it! Wild East has some of the best beers in Brooklyn, with consistent quality across styles, so there’s something for everyone. The space itself has the right balance of existing ambiance and opportunity to infuse your own aesthetic. One of my favorite parts of the evening was that we opened up the Cellar to be a low-stimulation room, a little quieter than the Taproom dancefloor, with rented furniture and a table for crafts. (This was meant for adults but it turns out the kids in attendance like crafts too – who knew?!) It also made for a perfect green room before and after the ceremony for the two of us to share a quiet moment alone as a couple. The events coordinator Casey and owner Tyler were very accommodating when it came to decorating in the space, allowing for our friends to take the reins hanging a backdrop for the ceremony and decorating the bar and tables with fresh flowers, foraged pieces, and candles. They were super supportive of storing things before and after the event, neutralizing a lot of the load-in/load-out headache. While communication was sometimes a little lax (they are a 7-day/wk taproom and active brewing space) everyone was truly lovely to work with and extremely supportive on the event day. The bartenders were super respectful and upbeat, working cheerfully all night long. Casey was kind, really chill, and open to ideas throughout the process; she even gave us a couple of four-packs when we came the next day to load our final boxes and cake out, which was a really sweet gesture. Casey really helped make our wedding day everything we wanted it to be, and we’re so grateful for all her coordination. Overall, the experience was exactly what we hoped for: the Wild East team let us run with our ideas, the staff were incredibly kind, and we were thrilled that our family and out of town friends had easy hotel accommodations and train options nearby. Plus, we were supervised throughout the night by their two working cats, Patience and Fortitude! Would highly recommend working with the good folks at Wild East. P.S. Hanging a disco ball and pin lights took the dance floor to the next level!

It was our best choice to ask Ren to be our photographer for our City Hall wedding. She was really professional, flexible, understanding, kind and super fun. It was so easy to work with her, she knew exactly what to tell us. She took the time to really get to know us and it shows on the pictures. We will forever cherish the beautiful moments Ren captured. We never thought someone can capture all the emotions and candid moments we had that day. The 4 hours of the shoot flew by and we still talk about it like one of the most fun time we had together. Can't wait for her to shoot our family wedding next! :)
