Arch Street Meeting House

Philadelphia, PA
  • Up to 300 guests
  • Select services
  • Indoor & outdoor
  • Starts at $2,000

Arch Street Meeting House is a historic wedding venue located in Old City Philadelphia. The land on which Arch Street Meeting House stands was officially deeded to the Quakers in 1701 and used as a burial ground until 1872. The building was constructed in stages from 1803 to 1811 when need arose of a larger meetinghouse in Philadelphia. The site is still an active place of worship in addition to being used as an educational museum space, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2011. It is frequently rented for conferences, weddings, dinners, and graduations. The building sits on just shy of 2 acres, and our grounds include both grassy & brick spaces and lots of mature trees. The entire site exudes an overall historic charm.

Why you'll love this venue

Venue considerations

  • Does not provide event staff
  • Limited cleanup and setup services
  • Lighting and sound are not included
“Arch Street Meeting House proved to be the ideal spot for our wedding. Jenn was an absolute pleasure to work with and made sure she understood exactly what we were looking for and how her team could help bring it to fruition. They allowed us to close the grounds to the public so that our guests could mingle and sip champagne outside in the beautiful weather. All of the guests commented on how tangibly historical the venue was and how they loved the simplicity and timelessness of the ceremony space. (Which looks absolutely stunning in the few preview photos we've gotten back.) Because it was so much more affordable, we also decided to hold our rehearsal dinner there and hired a taco truck to act as the caterers. All in all, I can't recommend ASMH or Jenn and the team more highly!!”

This beautiful New Beaux-Arts style building, constructed in 1908 and designed by Cope and Stewardson, has the unique distinction of being home to the oldest medical society in the country (founded in 1787) and the renowned Mütter Museum. As guests walk inside, they are surrounded by grandeur and elegance, and greeted by Aesculapius – the Greek god of medicine. The magnificent columned Marble Rotunda, with its view of a classic grand staircase, sets the stage for any occasion. With its historic ambience and stately architecture, it’s no wonder that the College – located in Philadelphia’s charming Rittenhouse-Fitler Historic District – has been the chosen setting for a diverse range of memorable events.

“This place is really the spot for a once in a lifetime dark romantic wedding. First of all, the venue really speaks for itself. The spaces, from the garden to the ballrooms are so beautiful, it doesn't really require a lot of dressing up. Also, when you go with the College of Physicians, you get a full buyout. The whole place is yours, including museum access, which was super important to us. The in house caterer, Catering By Design also makes the whole process a turn key solution. They have the tables, linens, silverware, plates, and a super team. No need to source everything from a million vendors. Despite the fact that they are the exclusive caterer, CBD does not take your experience for granted. They put a ton of care into bringing your vision to life, the food is truly superb, and was a consistent hit with our friends and family. A few things we feel should mention. The museum does have some form of plans for renovations and expansion. We recommend checking with the current status of their plans before committing 100%. We also found that those plans can shift slightly, and for us it was beneficial to be flexible on things like the grooms suite and our first look location. With that being said, we would absolutely have our wedding here again. The rates were extremely reasonable for what you get, and for us it was so unique and memorable. We want to give a special shout out to our contact at CBD Ginger, and Carolyn who handled florals. Thank you guys for making our wedding the best night of our lives.”

“When looking at wedding venues we knew that we wanted somewhere that could host all of our wedding day events - ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. But we also wanted a venue that would wow our guests. The Penn Museum was the first place we looked and all other venues fell short of its beauty and the energy, professionalism, and enthusiasm of event staff. Our coordinator, Allison, was helpful throughout the whole planning process - she was responsive and accommodating, offering to take us around as many times as we needed. Our wedding day ran smoothly in large part due to her and her catering counterpart, Grace. If you are looking for a one of a kind wedding experience with a truly wonderful staff, look no further than the Penn Museum.”
