For over a decade, Jim Merchant of Pirates Lane Video has been providing New England couples with quality wedding films that capture all of the emotion of the day. Jim has filmed hundreds of weddings, and will be the main videographer and editor of your film, for consistent high-quality results. With unobtrusive multicamera coverage, you can relax and enjoy your wedding day knowing that all of the best moments are being beautifully captured for years of enjoyment.

    Amazing Experience with Pirates Lane!

    We used Pirates Lane to film our wedding video, and I am SO glad we did. One thing that sets Pirates Lane apart is the length of the videos they offer. When I was looking around at other vendors, most seemed to only offer a 10-minute max video. If you want the full thing, they'll just hand over the raw, unedited footage. Not at Pirates Lane. When I met with Jim in our introductory call, I told him I wanted to see my full wedding. Full ceremony, speeches, first dance, parents dances, etc. and he delivered an hour and twenty-minute, fully edited video that did just that! We are so grateful to actually be able to relive our day in full for years to come and hopefully show our future family someday. Our ceremony was so meaningful to us, I could not image not being able to see it back! Jim was also a pleasure to work with pre-wedding and on the day of. He arrived on time and was a fly on the wall during the whole day. We even got our video ahead of the contracted time. Could not recommend more!

    BOOK THIS MAN ASAP!!

    Jim was exceptional!! I was a little nervous when I saw it was just him all by himself, but he NAILED it!! Caught so many wonderful moments, the sound and picture quality are perfect, and he was so kind and professional. And he was beyond reasonable with his price. 15/10 would recommend to anyone getting married! Having video of everything is so important.

The shorter highlights film is fun and a great way to remember the day while it's still a recent memory, but the longer documentary edit will hopefully become more and more treasured as the years go by!

    Jim and his team were so great and easy to work with. They faded into the background on the day but they captured every moment so beautifully! We also loved the add on options they had. The selfie camera was incredible and will be such a nice live guest book for the future. We also added on the edited raw footage which gave us most of the footage from the entire day, which we are really grateful to have. I cannot recommend them enough! They were great videographers!

It varies from wedding to wedding, and depending on the time of year, but most wedding films are delivered in a 3-6 month range.
Ultra HD (often referred to simply as 4K) is four times the resolution of HD or 3840x2160 pixels. All of our packages include filming in 4K with final videos delivered as both 4K and HD copies.
The exact number of cameras depends on the specifics of the shoot, but we generally use 3-4 cameras during the ceremony, and 2-3 cameras for most of the reception, with single camera coverage for getting ready footage and cocktail hr.
Once your edit is finished, we create an archive copy of the finished video(s), which is kept indefinitely. We recommend keeping your own backups (preferably in cloud storage), but if you ever need a new copy, as long as the archive drive still works, we can send you a new copy.
All of your wedding footage is backed up first to a portable drive, usually the same day as the wedding. Then several more copies are made within the first few days, one of which is kept in a fire-proof safe.
Our first wedding was New Year's Eve 2009, and we have filmed hundreds of weddings large and small in the years since.
No, we don't do interviews of guests, ideally, we want them to forget they are being filmed. We find this produces the best results for a great wedding film. What we do offer as an alternative to this is a Selfie-cam package. The guests pass around a camera with a small mic and light on it leaving messages.
Generally, we want to get natural looking, candid footage of you and your guests, so we try to stay out of the way, and blend in to the background to the extent that is possible. This means filming with longer lenses from off to the sides, and taking advantage balconies or other places where we can place cameras out of sight.
The music in the highlights film, and any music we add, must be licensed from a publisher specifically for use in the wedding film. We cannot use music that is bought retail (or downloaded from youtube). While we try to select the best music to work with your wedding film, from what is available, we would be happy to provide a link to the music library so that you can select a song yourself.
No, we don't use on camera lighting. Nobody likes having a bright light shined in their eyes. We have lights on light stands for the reception, which can be adjusted to match the color of the ambient light in the room (from daylight to candlelight). Once the room lighting is dimmed for dancing, our lights are usually at their lowest setting.
A second videographer is included with the Platinum Package, and is an optional upgrade with the other packages. I will sometimes have an assistant depending on the location and logistics of the wedding.
