About this venue

Whippoorwill Hill is a hidden treasure 6 miles from downtown Bloomington, Indiana. The property includes a stunning 300 person capacity, timber frame wedding barn originally constructed in 1892, and a farm house and barn built in the 1840s. The working farm is completely secluded and is the perfect location for any event from intimate ceremonies, to barn parties, to romantic receptions.

Russell Barn

The two-story wedding barn (also known as Russell Barn) was originally built in 1892. More recently it was renovated and may accommodate up to 300 people. Overall, your setting options at the working farm are indoor, uncovered outdoor, and covered outdoor spots; the wedding and reception sites are completely secluded. Whippoorwill Hill is not a facility with climate-control options; it’s recommended that couples rent portable temporary heaters in cooler months and opening the larger sliding doors during warmer times

Among the offerings covered in your wedding package are the solid wood Chiavari chairs that complement the barn’s interior; you’ll get 220 standard American-made chairs come with ivory cushions and then 20 that are bar height for the pub tables. Tables and luxury restrooms are included in the price; these are just two items offered to couples, to hopefully make the event elegant and comfortable while also budget-friendly. Event rentals, liability insurance, lighting, sound and setup are among the event services.

    Wedding Venue Recommendation

    From the moment we started planning, Whippoorwill Hill made us feel like our wedding mattered. The venue itself is stunning with that perfect blend of elegance and rustic charm that we were looking for. What really impressed us was how the staff went out of their way to help with everything we needed—they weren't just checking boxes, they genuinely wanted to make our day special. The best part? We got all of this without breaking the bank. The pricing was fair and transparent, which made the whole process stress-free. We couldn't have asked for a better space to celebrate with our loved ones, and we'd absolutely recommend Whippoorwill Hill to anyone looking for a beautiful venue that won't drain your budget.

    Whippoorwill Hill

    From the moment we booked Whippoorwill Hill, Anne made us feel like our wedding was their priority. They responded quickly to every question and gave us detailed answers that made planning stress-free. The farm itself is stunning—the landscape is pristine, the grounds are spacious, and the decorations they provided were elegant and thoughtful. On our wedding day, we felt like we were in our own little world, completely tucked away from everything else. Tammy and Joy went out of their way to accommodate every request we had, no matter how big or small. We loved every minute of it and couldn't recommend Whippoorwill Hill more highly.

    best wedding venue in indiana!!

    we hosted our wedding at whippoorwill hill in may of 2026, and we had the best experience! working w anne and her team prior to the event was easy and laid back! and then the day of was perfect, they did everything we had planned and exactly how we had planned it! our perfect day was made more perfect bc of whippoorwill and their team!

    Mother of the Groom

    Beautiful location with a GORGEOUS Barn. Jeff and Anne were a great team to work with and their team during our event was very accommodating and easy to work with for our needs.


We do not have exclusive contracts for any vendors. We want your special day to be exactly what you want. If you need help finding a quality vendor, please check out our Preferred Vendors Document. That document shares vendors that we have worked with that we believe do a fabulous job!
Under no circumstances should a guest open a gate or cross a fence during an event. WH strictly prohibits access to all areas of the farm without prior consent. Guests are welcome to walk around the areas of the farm that are not fenced. Please be respectful of our crops, if they are up, and do not walk through them.
There are about 6 acres where the farmhouse, wedding barn, historic barn, natural spring, axillary structures, and parking lots are located. Those 6 acres are the most common place for guests to use for gatherings. Ceremonies and receptions can certainly be set up in different configurations, or in different areas on the farm with approval from WH staff.
Smoking is not allowed in or around the farm buildings. There is a designated smoking area near the natural spring (will make a temporary smoking area nearer the buildings in case of inclement weather), and this is the only place on the farm where smoking is allowable. This rule will be strictly enforced.
The client is responsible for any and all damage to the event space or adjacent property. In most cases, the $500 deposit will cover the damage. In instances that it does not, WH will work with the customer to have the damaged property repaired.
The expectation is that the barn will be in the same state you received it. All personal belongings, decor, lighting, and outside rental items must be packed up and removed from the property. All trash must be gathered and placed in the on site dumpster. WH tables, chairs, and other barn-owned furniture items can be left in place. Any WH rental pieces should be gathered in one area.
Yes, we will have someone near by or at the farm while you, your vendors, or your guests are present. However, we do not wish to intrude upon your day unless completely necessary. Though we will be available to handle any facility issues that may arise during the event, our hope is that you will not even know we are there otherwise.
We require collegiate parties or parties that are hosted by clients under 25 years of age to hire a security guard. Otherwise, a security guard is not required to rent WH.
All guests must leave within half-an-hour of the event ending time. Staff, vendors, and all helpers must vacate two hours after the event ending time.
Unfortunately, at this time there is no allocated area at the farm for brides and grooms to get ready. Previous weddings have set up small tents for groomsmen to hang out in before the ceremony or bridesmaids to congregate in and hide before the ceremony. Please see our Preferred Vendors document for information on local Accommodations if you’d like a place to say and get ready.
We do not have a heating and cooling system installed inside the barn. We recommend renting portable temporary heaters in cooler temperature or opening the 7 large sliding doors for ventilation in warmer temperatures—there is a lovely natural breeze through the barn when all doors are open.
