About this venue

The Velaslavasay Panorama is housed in the Union Theatre, a historic neighborhood cinema built in 1910 with a neon marquee, enchanting garden, vintage theatre space and 360-degree painted panorama viewing hall. Set in the historic West Adams District near Downtown LA, the Velaslavasay Panorama is proud to participate in the cultural and artistic identity of the great city of Los Angeles, known the world over as an entertainment capital and the center of magnetic showmanship and spectacle. A visit to our panorama is complimented by a stroll through The Velaslavasay Garden and Grounds, featuring lush tropical plantings, a wide variety of succulents, a misting and meditation grotto, and a copper-roofed gazebo for reading and reflection. Reminiscent of the great 19th century pleasure gardens, our Grounds provide welcome respite from the everyday cares of the world.

    A kind of visual illusion popular in the Victorian era

    Drawing on the illustrious history of the great panorama paintings of the 18th and 19th centuries, The Velaslavasay Panorama is an exhibition hall, theatre and garden dedicated to the production and presentation of unusual visual experiences, including those of the 360-degree variety. Our venue, located at the historic Union Theatre, retains the charm and distinction of neighborhood cinema houses from the early 20th Century. Built in 1915, the building and overgrown, tropical garden gives visitors a sense of a place lost in time.

      An amazing value for a magical venue. The Velaslavasay Panorama is located in one of Los Angeles' first movie theaters, built in 1910; the theater itself maintains its turn of the century charm, suspended in time. The tropical garden out back looks like it's been there for centuries, with an amazing gazebo, water features and gorgeous lighting. Sara and Ruby went above and beyond to make the ceremony and night a success; they even let me use a de facto "bridal suite" upstairs with period-specific furnishings to get ready in! The Panorama is a nonprofit, and rentals help keep the lights on...it's good to know having my ceremony there helped support public art, too. It's a really, truly, special place.

      The team at Velaslavasay Panorama were prompt and pleasant to work with from start to finish. This unique venue is one-of-a-kind and words cannot describe the magical feeling the space generated for our wedding. Pure bliss! From the vintage Hollywood bridal suite to the old trading post that doubles as a groom's changing room, the crew at the panorama went above and beyond to make our special day unforgettable.

      If what you are seeking is a truly magical venue, look no further than the Velaslavasay Panorama. My wife and I did not want to have the typical hotel conference hall wedding. We wanted to show our family from outside of LA a place that was meaningful to us and at the same time still impress our friends from LA. The Panorama is genuinely extraordinary, with several different areas that can be arranged to suit your celebration. Our guest list was about 70 people and it was the perfect size. We opted to have our main ceremony in the historic theatre, our cocktail reception with our bartender in the lush garden, our musician play in the gazebo, and our dinner in the large area outside the moon gate. This made it easy for pick ups and drop offs with our catering and table / chair / bar rental. Sara and Ruby from the Panorama were absolutely lovely to deal with and helped considerably with logistics before, during, and after the event. Our photographer loved all of the different backdrops possible and everyone kept mentioning how wonderful the venue was. Check it out, I'm sure you will be absolutely stunned by the Panorama.
