Perfect Frederick Venue with Personal Touches

We could not have imagined a more perfect wedding at Union Mills. From start to finish, everything felt thoughtful, creative, and incredibly well executed. The food alone deserves endless praise. Guests are still raving about it, and we agree it somehow exceeded an already amazing tasting. We love how Niko worked with us to design our perfect custom menu, and took our ideas and presented them in such creative ways - like heart shaped mini grilled cheese with tomato soup and French onion soup served inside bread - both so creative and delicious, and we needed some soup hors d'oeuvres for our winter wedding! Also, please get the crab dip. Another special Niko/Union Mills perk- you get to make not only his/hers cocktails but also his/hers pizza that Niko brought over to our after party at Steinhardt, which was so so perfect. The venue itself is beautiful and felt so special for our day. We love the exposed brick, chandeliers, tall ceilings, and beautiful large bars. The location right on the creak is so wonderful for photos and cocktail hour (especially in warmer weather), and there's a lot of parking even though it is in downtown Frederick. Mary's setup for the girls to get ready in the cocktail space was perfect, with gorgeous lighting looking right at the creak (much bigger and better lighting than using the bridal suite, which we just used for storage and to change). For future couples that book Union Mills, we hosted about 125 guests, which felt like an ideal size for a winter wedding when everything is indoors. While the venue can technically accommodate larger guest counts, the cocktail hour space specifically will feel tight at higher numbers since it did at 125 (especially without outdoor spillover and with coat racks in use). Also, if you have out-of-towners, we would recommend suggesting the Visitation Hotel as a convenient and nice option for your guests to get to this venue and enjoy being downtown. We are so grateful to Niko and Mary and their whole Union Mills team and would recommend this venue without hesitation!!

Our experience at Union Mills was truly exceptional. Our guests absolutely loved the venue, and we received countless compliments on the food. Everyone raved about what they ate and the pizza was a complete hit! Our guests felt well-fed the entire night and are still talking about the pizza. The mocktail was also a favorite, people couldn’t stop talking about it. Mary and Niko were incredibly kind and attentive throughout the entire planning process. They addressed all of our concerns with patience and care, and worked closely with us to create a menu that was exactly what we wanted for our guests. Niko went above and beyond by crafting a menu that incorporated items inspired by restaurants we love to visit, as well as dishes that reflected our culture. That personal touch made everything even more special and brought so much joy to our guests. The staff at Union Mills was amazing as well. They treated my bridal party so well and were attentive to every detail. We are so happy we chose this venue! Our wedding was an absolute hit, and it wouldn’t have been the same without the Union Mills team. Highly recommend! 10/10

We knew Union Mills was special the moment we stepped inside and met Niko. They are wedding experts and the attention to detail is immaculate. The venue is absolutely beautiful, and our wedding there was everything we dreamed of. Niko and Mary were so kind and easy to work with throughout the entire year of planning, and the staff on the day of the wedding were wonderful. We had such a fun time creating our menu—Niko was open to all our ideas and offered amazing suggestions along the way. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about how delicious the food was and how stunning the ceremony turned out. Several people even remarked that the venue itself was “so cool!” If you’re considering Union Mills, you won’t be disappointed!

We originally wanted to get married in DC because that’s where we met and live, but after months of searching for a venue, we weren’t able to find what we were looking for. We extended our search into Maryland and one weekend decided to check out the Frederick wedding expo. We went to the first couple of stops, though, again, they were not what we were looking for, but then we went to the third stop, walked through the doors of Union Mills, stood on the landing, looked at each other, and said "This is it." The venue was absolutely stunning (those chandeliers!) It was perfect and EXACTLY what we’d been looking for. Not only was the venue incredible, but working with Niko and Mary was truly a joy. You can tell that they are passionate about what they do and making couple’s dreams come true. They were extremely flexible with our requests and there was never a “no, we can’t do that.” We worked together to find a solution that worked for all of us. They were transparent, everything was discussed in detail, and they both have a calm, easygoing presence in what can be a stressful process. As for the food, it was incredible! I don't know how many people told us that the lambchops were the best they ever had. Niko provided an extensive list of food options, but also allowed us to choose off-list or even bring in our own personal recipes for the chefs to recreate. The team really lets the couple showcase their creativity and add in their personal touches to make sure their wedding captures who they are. I’d also like to shoutout Ilcia for coming in early on the morning of our wedding to make a mezcal cocktail for me to try. Also, get the pizza, and it doesn’t matter what kind because it’s all amazing! Lastly, Niko and Mary were very responsive via email and text, though text was a lot easier for them when it came to quick questions. We also went back and forth on our tasting menu and final menu a few times, but Niko was patient with us and worked with us until we perfected it. All of this made the planning process less stressful and reassured us that we made the right choice in not just the venue, but catering as well. UMPH- to Niko and Mary, and all the staff behind the scenes, you gave us the wedding of our dreams. Truly an unforgettable day and that wouldn’t have been possible without every single one of you.
