In a previous life, Rachel worked as a crime scene investigator for the Phoenix and Mesa Police Departments, were she learned the physics of light and the science behind photography. But having her newborn son, Wyatt, at home during her long homicide call-out schedule wasn’t a good fit. So in 2014, she took the leap, the plunge, the dive! into the artistic world of photography and hasn’t looked back.

Other than being obsessed with finding dramatic light, Rachel spends her time mapping out all the new Raising Canes Chicken Finger locations in Arizona, drooling over Willamette Valley wines, gobbling up ANYTHING her chef-of-a-husband cooks, and geeking-out over the magic that is the new Zelda for Nintendo Switch (yes, she’s been a closet nerd her entire life). Voyage Phoenix recently did an interview with Rachel about her art and business.

Typically, couples book me about 13 months before their wedding date. I encourage you to reach out as soon as possible about my availability, even if you’re planning on a shorter time frame.
I always have a lighting assistant with me to act as a second pair of hands and to help keep the photo schedule running. Occasionally I will bring a second shooter if there are multiple important events going on at the same time, and in seperate locations.
Definitely. I've trained under the retouchers for Vogue and Elle Magazine. I consider post processing as an important part of my art.
No, I prefer focusing on photography only, so you can get the best wedding pictures possible. I do, however, work with some wonderful videographers I can recommend. We shoot together so often that we can create custom collections for you.
My turnaround time varies by season. Typically, you’ll be able to view your photos online about 2 months after your wedding. When the wedding seasons ramp up, that time gets extended to about 3 month. Within this time, you can also expect to receive a USB drive with high-resolution image files, so you can share the photos with your loved ones and order prints.
Most of my full wedding galleries end up being between 300-500 images. It depends on the length of coverage, but also the details and specific events that are planned on the day. My galleries tell the full story of your special day, without bogging you down with thousands of duplicate images.
I do! Just let me know if your venue requires a certificate of liability, and I’ll send that over to them.
In my 8 years of experience as a wedding photographer, I’ve never cancelled a booking. In the very rare event that I’m unable to photograph your wedding, I’ll make sure you’re covered by one of my colleagues or my contracted assistant. I’ll also provide you with a list of photographers from the many networking groups I’m in, so you can find the perfect replacement if you would prefer.
