Hi, I’m Makenzie! I’m the photographer behind Makenzie Leigh Photography, and I recently relocated from Alaska to Northern New York. With a BFA in Photography and roots in the fine arts, my work is nostalgic, film-inspired, whimsical and full of feeling. I’m especially drawn to intimate and unconventional weddings that prioritize connection and feel true to the people at the center of them. My approach is rooted in honest storytelling, the beautifully imperfect moments in between, and creating photographs that feel like your memories rather than someone else’s Pinterest board.

Your wedding day should feel like your wedding day, not a photoshoot. I’ll guide you when you need it, then step back and let the real moments unfold: the nervous hand squeezes, windblown veils, happy tears, uncontrollable laughter and everything you never could have planned. My approach creates galleries that feel nostalgic, cinematic and completely personal to you. I also take on a limited number of weddings each year so every couple and every story gets the care it deserves.

    Wedding pictures

    I’ve know. Makenzie for several years and it’s always great to have her capture our special moments. It was an absolute delight to work with for our wedding. From the moment we first connected about the wedding, Makenzie was friendly, responsive, and brought a calming presence that helped put us at ease during the planning process. On the day of, their amazing photography skills shone through as they captured all the special moments of our celebration in a natural way. We felt completely comfortable with Makenzie, who also helped keep me calm as the bride by making sure my partner and I could focus on each other. As a queer couple, we also really appreciated Makenzie's inclusive and affirming approach. The final photos are stunning and we're so grateful to have such beautiful memories of our wedding day. Highly recommend Makenzie Leigh Photography!

    Outstanding and Professional Wedding Photographer

    Makenzie was one of our first vendors we booked and from the start she was amazing. Her professionalism through the process was A and her storytelling skills are incredible! We chose Makenzie because her values of capturing our story and our loved ones moments aligned with what we were looking for! Makenzie is so personable and made both of us feel comfortable as soon as we met her for our engagement session and we never once doubted our decision to have her photograph our story!

    DO NOT MISS HER MASTERPIECES OF WORK

    I AM CRYING! She gave us the most stunning photos that were able to truly capture our genuine reactions and love towards me and my new husband! She was so good at directing and she will be your hype woman. You will feel amazing following a shoot/wedding with her! Would have loved to have found her sooner but will be using her for everything from now on! I can’t say enough amazing things but I wish I could post how amazing her photos were here too just so you can see how amazing the colors and lines came out. 10000/10 recommend!!

    Best photographer EVER

    Mackenzie is one of those photographers that have such a rustic, artistic, and loving style. She is such an amazing person to work with when taking photos. She made my wedding into a true fairytale. My husband and I will forever remember her artistry and the time that she had put into our wedding photos! Finding a photographer to take pictures when it’s dark out is not easy, but of course Mackenzie could pull it off! She is a miracle worker!

    Makenzie always shows her true colors

    Makenzie is the most kind hearted, loving, and passionate photographer that I’ve ever met. She is very easy to work with, and cares about your photography requests. Makenzie is very patient and detail oriented. I would highly recommend her for any photo shoot.

My editing style is warm, nostalgic and film-inspired, with natural colors, soft grain and a slightly imperfect, lived-in feel. I want your photos to feel timeless rather than trendy, with rich greens, warm skin tones and colors that stay true to the day. My goal is for your gallery to feel a little like flipping through old photographs of a memory you never want to forget.
Your finished photographs will be delivered through a beautiful, private online gallery where you can view, download and share your images with friends and family. Your gallery includes high-resolution digital files and full printing rights, so you can save your favorites, print them and relive your day whenever you’d like.
Your full wedding gallery will be delivered within 6 weeks, but you won’t have to wait that long to relive the day! I send sneak peeks within 48 hours, including some of my favorite moments and key memories from your wedding, so you’ll have beautiful photographs to share and enjoy while I finish your full gallery.
Absolutely! I know wedding photography is an investment, so I’m happy to offer flexible payment plans to make things a little easier. We can create a payment schedule that works for you, with your final balance due before the wedding day.
Absolutely! I’m based in Northern New York and photograph weddings throughout the North Country, Thousand Islands, Adirondacks, Syracuse and beyond. I’m always happy to travel for a story that feels like a good fit, so if you’re planning something a little farther away, reach out and tell me about it!
Absolutely. You never need to know what to do in front of the camera! I’ll give you direction when you need it, but I won’t spend your entire day putting you into stiff poses. I use movement, prompts and natural interaction to create photographs that feel candid and true to you while still making sure you look your best.
Yes! I offer 35mm film as an add-on for couples who want even more nostalgia woven into their wedding gallery. Film has an imperfect, timeless quality I absolutely love and blends beautifully with my digital work.
Once you inquire and we make sure we’re a good fit, your date is officially reserved with a signed contract and retainer. From there, we’ll start planning together so I can get to know you, what matters most to you, and how you want your wedding day to feel.
I intentionally photograph only around five weddings each year. Keeping my calendar small gives me the space to really get to know each couple, be thoughtful and creative with every story, and give each wedding my full attention from planning through final gallery delivery. I never want your wedding to feel like just another date on my calendar. Taking on fewer celebrations allows me to stay excited, present and creatively invested in every one I photograph.
Absolutely! Engagement sessions are one of my favorite ways to get to know you before your wedding day. Rather than treating them like a practice run, I love making the session feel like a little piece of your actual life together, whether that’s wandering somewhere beautiful, getting coffee, cooking at home or planning a date around something you genuinely love doing together. It gives us a chance to get comfortable with each other while creating photographs that tell a story of this season of your relationship, too.
