Hi. I’m Josh. Our work is based in Washington, DC, often in San Francisco and we’re happy to travel. The best photographs are simple, unobtrusive, and spontaneous. Memory fills in the gaps - this is how authentic photography captivates us. We've always sought to remember things exactly how they happened - how we felt. The goal is to unobtrusively document your day through artful frames. I'm a firm believer there is no single best photographer anywhere in the world - but there are artist the align with your vision. Description

Our portrait session is simple, scalable and uncompromising. Package A is designed for those who need fewer photos. The session begins at $250 and includes 30-minutes, 2 edited portraits and is available in Columbia, MD. The travel fee to DC, Baltimore and anywhere in between is $100. Each additional edited portrait is $100.

    Mother of the bride

    My daughter and son-in-law had chosen Josh to photograph their wedding, and we were absolutely thrilled with their choice.  Josh is an incredibly hard-working and talented photographer who poured his heart into the process of creating a beautiful final product. His stamina and energy on the wedding day were unmatched.  He was very aware of all that was happening and yet remained so calm and approachable through the whole process. He has a genuine way of putting people at ease bringing about very natural smiles and poses. Josh is not only an authentically kindhearted person, but he also has a great eye for design using light and color in beautiful ways.     Sincere, passionate, and candid - hire Josh!

    When looking for our wedding photographer, we wanted someone whose photos would help us feel like we were in the moment and capture the spirit of the day. Josh did just that. His documentary, candid-style photography delivered photos that tell a story and are energetic, lively, and fun. From our first meeting through the end, we could tell he is passionate about his craft and genuinely loves what he does. Especially with one of us being more hesitant about taking photos, we appreciated Josh’s sincerity and transparency throughout the whole process. He also was very accommodating of special requests, like taking a group photo of everyone who attended after the ceremony, keeping a dance a surprise, and creating two separate albums so some photos could stay private. We are thrilled to have chosen Josh and highly recommend him!

    An amazing experience with Josh!

    Josh is an incredible photographer, and our family is so grateful to have worked with him! He was completely professional throughout the process while remaining entirely approachable and friendly for our entire family. He has a very calming and encouraging presence and was able to get so many amazing photos of our family. Josh is wonderful with children as well, and was really able to engage our infant daughter throughout the session for some great photos! We cannot recommend Josh and his team highly enough. It was a privilege to have him as our photographer.

    Wonderful autumn family portrait

    Our family had a wonderful experience with Josh for our first family portrait. Josh was incredibly approachable, kind, and responsive from the beginning, scheduling time with us before the session to get to know us, help select a location, and address any questions. Afterwards, Josh kept in contact with us, considering the time of day so that our baby would be most comfortable and was very flexible to ensure we had the best experience. The session went wonderfully and the photos were beautiful. Josh was able to capture many special moments. We look forward to working with Josh for future family portraits.

    Feels Like Family — Not Just a Photographer

    We’ve worked with Josh three times over the years — for our engagement photos, a family portrait session, and most recently, our wedding. From the very first time we met him, he made us feel completely comfortable and at ease in front of the camera. Even on the hottest outdoor days, he never lost his warm smile and positive energy, helping us stay relaxed and genuinely happy while being photographed. At our wedding, Josh didn’t miss a single moment — he worked tirelessly from beginning to end with such sincerity and passion that many of our guests came up to us afterward asking if he was a family member! Everyone kept saying how amazing our photographer was. My family and I cannot recommend Josh highly enough. We value your investment and it’s important to us that we get a good sense of each other. Let’s book a video chat either through Zoom or FaceTime. Or if you prefer, I’d love to meet you for coffee in Columbia, MD.
Agree to the contract, deposit 1000 bucks for a wedding and 50% for a portrait session and we’re on. Easy peasy.
Zelle is preferred. We also accept Venmo, PayPal, ApplePay, credit cards (+4% fee), and checks. Payment plans are totally awesome.
The best 600-700 photos will be chosen from the 6000 we usually end up with an 8-hour wedding.
The first 12 images of a wedding will be sent to you within 24-hours, 50 more images within a week for a thorough summary and the rest is handed over within 4 weeks. Portrait sessions receive proofs after seven days and the final edits are available 5 days after the choices are received. Timeliness is very important. You’ve gone to great lengths to make this happen and it should be reciprocated with equal vigor.

This should be asked of any photographer before your decision. Impressing clients with one’s best work is expected, but sharing complete deliveries brings a certain level of confidence and accountability we should have for each other.
Delivering RAW files is a disservice to clients. This is unfinished work and doesn’t represent the craftsmanship you’ve come to appreciate. It’s like a baker handing over flour to those who say they can also bake.
The best 1000 photos will be chosen from the 6000 I usually end up with per 8-hour wedding.
If long travels are needed, I’d like to arrive at wedding locations at least 36 hours ahead of the event. We will account for hotel, airfare and car rental - direct costs only.
Unobtrusive photography allows you, and more importantly, your loved ones, to fully enjoy the wedding experience. I pursue this by working alone. I’ve done so for weddings larger than 300 happy, love-crazed people. Photographing since 2002 has honed my anticipation skills pretty darn well. If you deem it necessary, a second photographer is available as an option for $800 for a 6-hour wedding. The 8-hour package includes an additional photographer.
Congrats on being normal. I have yet come across a person who loves being photographed. Making good photos is all about not trying hard in the first place.
The backup process begins as soon as we create the first image. The cameras have dual, duplicating memory cards. The day’s work doesn’t end when we say goodbye. The files are downloaded to a laptop and 3 external drives as soon as I get to the car. Before I retire for the evening, the folder is then uploaded to two separate cloud services. Within 24-hours, we’ll have 8 copies of your photos in different locations.
Go to town with it, a print and distribution release is issued to all clients. You can print these anywhere and share with loved ones. If you want me to take care of this for you, please know I’ve worked with the same premium professional lab since 2007. They know exactly how the images are supposed to look. The delivery turnover for our uncompromising photographic prints is a quick 10-days.
