I’ve been making pictures since I was 12. My parents gave me an ancient 35mm Konica Autoreflex camera, told me to get after it, and the rest, as they say, is history. My role as a photographer is to capture the rare, vulnerable, epic, extraordinary, and wonderfully ordinary moments of life, as well as the beautiful details in between. I strive to make images that come from the heart and will tell your story for years to come. Also, I might cry at your wedding. It happens.

I'm a believer in beauty. I love people. I can't help but experience complete joy if given even the slightest opportunity. I work best with people who embrace adventure and delight in the non-traditional. I can't help but feel like I'm the luckiest human in the world because I get to join an extraordinary moment with you, as an artist and a witness, and capture it for a lifetime. Also, I'm totally down to dance with Aunt Winnie, deliver cake to the grandparents, and play tag with the toddlers. And lastly, but most importantly ... Love is Love. Black Lives Matter. Just a dream to work with
Johanna was an absolute delight to work with from beginning to end. Even though we'd been engaged for several years before booking her to shoot our wedding, she offered us an engagement photo shoot as a way to get to know each other. We had a lovely day talking and getting some incredible pictures. Day of the wedding Johanna was professional but relaxed and fun! She easily corralled the people required for the photos but also went along with last-minute changes with ease and humor. And the shots that she got were truly lovely and really captured the energy, fun, and love of the event. 10/10, would absolutely recommend!

Jo is THE BEST!!
I have to start by sending a huge THANK YOU to Jo for sharing her talent and art with lucky couples like us!! From the first call, we felt totally comfortable with Jo and almost immediately knew she would be the perfect photographer for our wedding. We were able to set up an engagement shoot to meet her in person (we live in NY and were planning remotely in Maine!) - she recommended the most incredible location and the results were honestly magical (see tiny humans, big rocks!). As for our wedding!!... Jo hopped around to multiple locations starting from getting ready to dance time, capturing, catching, creating, every beautiful or sweet or silly moment of the ENTIRE day. When the final album came through, we had the happiest tears!! I honestly cannot pick fewer than 100 favorites (gonna need at least 5 IG posts!). And with Jo you don't have to worry about the boring stuff. She asks for exactly what she needs to prep for the day, and she ensures the rest just flows! TLDR: my GenZ sister/MOH said "CALL VOGUE YESTERDAY, your photographer was *bleep* amazing!!!" Thank you, Jo!!!

You guys. Stop it. I mean, seriously. You truly were just the most fun ever - from the very beginning, when we ran around making pictures on big rocks out in the ocean - and I feel so lucky that I got to be your photographer. I'd do it all again in a heart beat! Here's the two of you, thank you so gosh-darn much for trusting me to make these pictures for you, and ... NOT A PORPOISE!

You need Jo Sorrell for your wedding day!
I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Johanna Sorrell Photography. Jo was there every step of the way providing positive energy and helpful advice, from engagement photos, to planning the wedding timeline, to the big day itself. Jo has such a fun presence and made it very easy to be comfortable in front of a camera, especially for two people who are not used to getting their pictures taken. She knows exactly when to give direction and when to let a moment happen organically. And don’t even get me started on THE PHOTOS!!! She has a gift for capturing every emotion we felt on the day. Not to exaggerate but we loved, Every. Single. Photo. You cannot ask for a better photographer for your wedding day. Thank you Jo!

Jo is a rockstar!!!
When my husband and I were looking for photographers for our wedding, we knew we wanted someone with a photography style that matched what we wanted AND someone who was going to be fun and bring professionalism with great energy. Jo was communicative, gave us great tips for the day, and brought such a joy, lightness and ease to the day that made everything even better. She took unbelievable photos and connected so well with everyone, and we even had people come up to us later saying that they loved our photographer and had so much fun with her. She’ll forever be a highlight of the story of our wedding. I can’t recommend Jo enough, I would give 6 stars if I could!!!

Johanna was the absolute best
Johanna was the photographer for our wedding in Biddeford Pool, ME this past July. Big picture up front - Jo might have been the best photographer I have ever worked with. Truly. We chose Jo from a few photographers we liked for two main reasons: we really liked her style which seemed to capture the informal moments - kids playing, giggles, found moments of connection, and far more. (She's always great with the posed photos too!) And the second reason was that as soon as we met her we were immediately grateful and elated by her constant enthusiasm, kindness, and warmth. Then, actual planning began. Jo's a pro - organized, up for lots, and patient with stressed out people about to get married. She made all the pre-wedding stuff easy. She met us on the beach prior to the wedding to make sure we felt comfy with her, and we ended up having a blast. She listened to us about what we thought was important, and then she GOT TO WORK. Jo might never stop moving. She's in perpetual motion, and when she needs to be, absolutely in charge of a bunch of people who are hard to herd. But a lot of the time, she simply blends in as she's finding shot after shot after shot. She knows what works and kindly but earnestly moves us (and everyone else) where they need to be - and you never feel like you're being photographed. It just feels fun. The finished product is amazing - we LOVE our photos. They are so full of joy, wonder, whimsy - and what actually happened. We are grateful to Jo and would recommend anyone work with her. She's a pro, a blast to be around, and certainly made our day look just as special as we remember it.
