I’ve been making pictures since I was 12. My parents gave me an ancient 35mm Konica Autoreflex camera, told me to get after it, and the rest, as they say, is history. My role as a photographer is to capture the rare, vulnerable, epic, extraordinary, and wonderfully ordinary moments of life, as well as the beautiful details in between. I strive to make images that come from the heart and will tell your story for years to come. Also, I might cry at your wedding. It happens.

I'm a believer in beauty. I love people. I can't help but experience complete joy if given even the slightest opportunity. I work best with people who embrace adventure and delight in the non-traditional. I can't help but feel like I'm the luckiest human in the world because I get to join an extraordinary moment with you, as an artist and a witness, and capture it for a lifetime. Also, I'm totally down to dance with Aunt Winnie, deliver cake to the grandparents, and play tag with the toddlers. And lastly, but most importantly ... Love is Love. Black Lives Matter. You need Jo Sorrell for your wedding day!
I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Johanna Sorrell Photography. Jo was there every step of the way providing positive energy and helpful advice, from engagement photos, to planning the wedding timeline, to the big day itself. Jo has such a fun presence and made it very easy to be comfortable in front of a camera, especially for two people who are not used to getting their pictures taken. She knows exactly when to give direction and when to let a moment happen organically. And don’t even get me started on THE PHOTOS!!! She has a gift for capturing every emotion we felt on the day. Not to exaggerate but we loved, Every. Single. Photo. You cannot ask for a better photographer for your wedding day. Thank you Jo!

Jo is a rockstar!!!
When my husband and I were looking for photographers for our wedding, we knew we wanted someone with a photography style that matched what we wanted AND someone who was going to be fun and bring professionalism with great energy. Jo was communicative, gave us great tips for the day, and brought such a joy, lightness and ease to the day that made everything even better. She took unbelievable photos and connected so well with everyone, and we even had people come up to us later saying that they loved our photographer and had so much fun with her. She’ll forever be a highlight of the story of our wedding. I can’t recommend Jo enough, I would give 6 stars if I could!!!

Johanna was the absolute best
Johanna was the photographer for our wedding in Biddeford Pool, ME this past July. Big picture up front - Jo might have been the best photographer I have ever worked with. Truly. We chose Jo from a few photographers we liked for two main reasons: we really liked her style which seemed to capture the informal moments - kids playing, giggles, found moments of connection, and far more. (She's always great with the posed photos too!) And the second reason was that as soon as we met her we were immediately grateful and elated by her constant enthusiasm, kindness, and warmth. Then, actual planning began. Jo's a pro - organized, up for lots, and patient with stressed out people about to get married. She made all the pre-wedding stuff easy. She met us on the beach prior to the wedding to make sure we felt comfy with her, and we ended up having a blast. She listened to us about what we thought was important, and then she GOT TO WORK. Jo might never stop moving. She's in perpetual motion, and when she needs to be, absolutely in charge of a bunch of people who are hard to herd. But a lot of the time, she simply blends in as she's finding shot after shot after shot. She knows what works and kindly but earnestly moves us (and everyone else) where they need to be - and you never feel like you're being photographed. It just feels fun. The finished product is amazing - we LOVE our photos. They are so full of joy, wonder, whimsy - and what actually happened. We are grateful to Jo and would recommend anyone work with her. She's a pro, a blast to be around, and certainly made our day look just as special as we remember it.

We love Jo!
Jo was the best addition to our day - everyone should hire her! She takes amazing photos and is so fun to work with. We are pretty sure that neither of us have had our photo professionally taken since middle school, so we really wanted a photographer that would make us feel at ease, and Jo is a master at that. Less of a photographer, more just a friend with a camera, she just becomes a part of the party. She took some major weather curveballs in stride, wrangled our huge families expertly, and made us feel so comfortable for the whole day. The whole process from the first emails, to engagement photos, to wedding day was smooth as silk. Our friends and family kept saying to us “your photographer is awesome” and we agree - best photographer ever!

Hire Jo Immediately - She Is the Best!!
Jo was the best hire of our wedding. Initially when we were choosing a photographer, we reviewed photos from a dozen vendors and Jo’s photos stood out from the rest. We loved her style, perspective, and creativity. Luckily, she was available for our day and we decided to meet. At that meeting, it quickly became clear she was the one. Personable, smart, and thoughtful, she is someone who makes you feel at ease. Leading up to the wedding, she proactively checked in with thoughtful messages and helped us plan every step. She always knew what to say and when. Our package included an engagement shoot, so we were able to set up a time to take photos before our wedding weekend. Going into the engagement shoot, my partner and I were nervous because we’d never done a photo shoot. Would we look good? Would it be awkward? When we showed up, Jo made us feel at ease immediately and we had a great time. But there was the question: would the photos turn out good? Well, we were stunned. They were amazing. We didn’t realize we could look so good! When our wedding weekend came around, we were, as expected, pretty nervous. Weddings are, famously, high pressure days! But Jo was our port in the storm. She brought the best vibes and made us feel like everything was ok. And somehow, she was also EVERYWHERE. When we got our photos, we couldn’t believe what she’d captured. She got laughs. She got tears. She got beautiful shots. She got arts-y shots. She got funny shots. She got everyone. And we all somehow looked amazing? We look at these photos all the time - they have transformed this event from one amazing day into a lifelong memory, and that’s all because of Jo. So if you’re hiring a photographer and she’s available, you should hire her with no hesitation. She’s incredible.
