Lead Chef

I grew up in a big family of chefs and grandmas who made every gathering revolve around food, which shaped my love for cooking and hosting. Originally from Michigan, I moved to the Pacific Northwest drawn by its beauty and culture of sustainability. After earning a master’s in environmental sustainability, I rooted myself in Portland and began cooking for friends. What started as small supper clubs grew into creating thoughtful, seasonal meals for micro weddings, private dinners, and weekly meal prep.

Salt & Ember is built on intentional, personal food experiences, never cookie‑cutter menus or generic packages. Sustainability guides everything we do, from choosing seasonal, local ingredients to reducing waste. We take time to understand your style and vision so the food feels like an extension of your atmosphere. Whether it’s a micro wedding, private dinner, or weekly meals, we create dishes that are warm, elevated, and rooted in the Pacific Northwest. As a boutique catering service, we accommodate events of 80 guests and under to ensure exceptional ingredients, thoughtful service, and the elevated experience we’re known for.

    Would absolutely recommend!!

    Can't recommend Salt and Ember enough! My engagement party was a dream come true, from table decor to desserts and everything in between. I appreciate how communicative both Dane and Josie were throughout the process and how much attention they paid to detail to make our party exactly how we wanted it. Would book with them again for any future event. :)

    Excellent experience

    Food was perfectly prepared and the timing on the courses were perfect! The table decorations and plating paired well and set an intimate and elevated vibe for the party! Everyone left full and content, will absolutely go with Salt & Ember again for our next event!

    So impressed!!

    Dane catered a private event for me and some friends and the food and drinks were absolutely exceptional. Everything looked so professional and decadent. I’ll definitely be coming back to Dane in the future!

    i’ve had the best experience

    Dane helped me with meal prep and made healthy dishes that were honestly so delicious. I loved the variety! Nothing felt repetitive or boring. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully made. It made eating healthy feel easy and exciting.

    Josie was truly a godsend and was able to catch up on our entire plan very last minute when a previous day of coordinator fell through. She came recommended by another trusted vendor and immediately stepped up to the plate! She was super communicative and helpful. I totally trusted her to set up/decorate the reception venue during our private ceremony and we were blown away when we arrived! Everything from the table settings to flower arrangements were beautifully and thoughtfully displayed. We felt totally taken care of and she worked so well with our other vendors it was a massive relief to know she had everything handled day of. HIGHLY recommend!!

Yes, we charge a standard fee for delivery within Portland. Additional fees may apply to deliveries to the metro.
We are full service. We will take you on a walk-through of available rentals and work with you to find options within your budget.
As a boutique catering service, we accommodate events from just 5 guests up to 50 guests to ensure exceptional ingredients, thoughtful service, and the elevated experience we’re known for. If your event exceeds 50 guests, we still encourage you to inquire — we can support rehearsal dinners, smaller wedding‑weekend meals, or connect you with a trusted caterer better suited for larger guest lists.
