Nu Standard was founded by accomplished multi-instrumentalist Derrick Hicks. Passionate about providing top-class wedding entertainment, this Texas-native has been playing instruments since his childhood. Consisting of vocalists, horns, and a rhythm section, the band features some of the city’s most seasoned musicians. Whether you would like to hear soul, funk, blues, or the latest hits, this group can adapt their repertoire to suit your wishes.

Based out of Austin, TX, Nu Standard is a wedding band that performs for occasions in the Lone Star State and nationwide. This talented 8-piece group has been electrifying receptions since 2018. Specializing in a variety of popular genres, these expert musicians are keen to complement your celebration with a perfect playlist. From your walk down the aisle to your first dance, Nu Standard can accompany each stage of your wedding day. You can work with them to create a personalized soundtrack, or select one of their established setlists. The band can perform MC duties, and can provide a selection of state-of-the-art sound equipment.

Typically, the band is expected to wear stage performance all black attire. Men will be in suits and the ladies will be in a dress. If known ahead of time, the band will try to incorporate the wedding colors to enhance the wedding photos for the bride and groom.
Yes. The band will learn new songs. Based on the time needed to perfect the new song, there will be a small additional fee added.

Typically, our sound team arrives 3 hours before the band sound check. The sound check is normally 2 hours before guest arrive. The final timeline will always be confirmed with the appropriate person well in advance of the event.
