We are happy you loved the ceremony and entrances, and we understand that some parts of the reception did not feel the way you hoped. To give a little context, you shared a 5-hour playlist, and the open dance window was 2 hours and 9 mins. We played 62 songs, 35 of which were from your list. Unless a couple asks us to play only from their list, our usual approach is to mix their favorites with proven dance floor songs and read the room. For example, we played September, Apache, and Dancing Queen from your list, and complemented that with Let’s Groove, YMCA, and Funkytown. If you preferred only your Spotify playlist, a quick note in advance or a quick conversation during open dancing would have helped us pivot immediately. Our team is professional and experienced, and we are always ready to adapt in real time to make our couples happy. Our DJ Planning Center app has three optional sections that help with planning: Must Play, Dance Music, and Do Not Play. Because those sections were not completed, including the Do Not Play list, we did not have a clear list of songs to avoid. Concerning the cake-cutting song, the cake cutting happened after the open dancing started and it was requested that we did not announce it. Because everyone was already dancing, it is possible the moment was easily missed. When cake cutting happens during active dancing, we would normally switch to the cake cutting song and announce it so guests can share the moment, which also helps transition the abrupt change in music and vibe. Since we were not announcing it, we did not realize that you all were cutting your cake until that part was already underway. On guest requests, it is possible we read your note incorrectly, or we were in the act of playing a string of songs from your playlist when guests approached, which may have caused some mixed messages. Your feedback is very helpful. We are refining our pre-event process with a clear “play only from our list” option. Thank you again for trusting us with your day.
