Bristow Manor’s stunning 1800’s southern style manor house, splashed with seasonal foliage, provides a stunning backdrop for weddings and special events. Stepping inside of the manor house, your guests will admire historic features, including 14’ ceilings, crystal chandeliers, original fireplaces, unique crown molding and historic architectural elements. Our grand staircase leads to the upper level of the manor house, where we offer private dressing rooms and a balcony overlooking the lush grounds and romantic sunsets. Connected to the manor house is our state room reception venue. The state room is adorned with rich wooden floors, floor to ceiling arched windows, crystal chandeliers and romantic ceiling draping, making it the ideal setting for receptions. The Athenaeum is a beautifully preserved antebellum building, now serving as an art gallery. One of only two remaining examples of Neoclassical Greek Revival architecture in Alexandria, its exterior features an impressive portico supported by soaring Doric columns. Oversized windows bring natural light to the main gallery rooms, which boast 24-foot ceilings, wonderful woodwork, and exposed granite walls lined with rotating art exhibits. Your ceremony can be held in the sweet, private courtyard. This quaint, romantic space has a “secret garden” feel, sheltered from the street by high, vine-covered red brick walls. Please note wheelchair access is available only on the main floor. A/V equipment is available but limited. Viewing the Athenaeum The Athenaeum is available for viewing during gallery hours or by appointment. Gallery hours are Thursday-Sunday from 12:00pm-4:00pm. The Athenaeum is closed on holidays. Monroe Bay Vineyard is located on the water near Colonial Beach on the original birthplace Farm of our 5th President James Monroe. We have secluded and tranquil waterfront land to plan your perfect day. We have a large, unique barn made of natural, recycled materials of strawbales for insulation and recycled wine bottles for light and design. You no longer see the strawbales in the wall as they have been covered with a hydraulic lime the same material castles in France for hundreds of years have been made from. The inside is a museum quality white lime finish with unique curves with sun shining through the patterned wine bottle walls to give a unique backdrop.
