About this venue
Van Dickson Ranch is a wedding venue located in Skull Valley, Arizona, 16 miles from Prescott, and 90 minutes north of Phoenix. It is a marvelous place for spring, summer, and fall nuptials with its wondrous oak and walnut trees. A natural arch formed by 100-year-old cottonwoods and a lush carpet of grass situated above Skull Valley Creek sets the scene for weddings. This beautiful area is known as Skull Valley because of the skulls found there in the late 1800s which are believed to be from ancient battles between the Yavapai and Apache people. James Van Dickson homesteaded this ranch in 1906. Van, as he was known, was a world-class rodeo champion who raised polo ponies at the ranch and leased them to Will Rogers.

Reception Pavilion
The pavilion includes lighting, a dance floor, tables, chairs, and club cars to transport guests. The staff will provide set-up and clean-up services.
Guests adjourn to the covered pavilion for the reception to enjoy dinners of Texas tri-tip smoked on the ranch with five side dishes offering guests seconds and thirds if they like.

Peyton , Married on 03/29/2026 5.0 Magical. Highly recommend this beautiful spot. We just had our daughter and son-in-law’s wedding at Van Dickson this past weekend. It was absolutely magical. Carolyn is so helpful and brings a calming energy to the planning and to the event itself. There are no hidden charges—she provides you with a contract right at the beginning that has everything on it. She answers emails very quickly. Van Dickson is the perfect blend of ‘full-service’ and ‘do-it-yourself’. They set up pretty wooden chairs for the ceremony and all of the tables and chairs in the reception area. They set out cold water and cups for the ceremony and reception. And then they provide a delicious dinner of smoked tri-tip, chicken, beans, slaw, potato salad and cowboy caviar. It is served buffet-style on paper plates (we ordered clear plastic chargers with gold rims from Amazon that made the tables look very elegant). We handled the decoration, florals, cake, bartender, etc. This allowed our family, friends and wedding attendants to pitch in and created an atmosphere of camaraderie that we would not have achieved if we had just paid to have it all done for us. Everyone we worked with was kind, helpful and professional. Megan (day-of coordinator) and Jason (head ‘cowboy’) were always nearby to answer questions or offer assistance. Jason’s guys helped move all of our stuff from the ceremony site over to the reception site and set it all back up for us. They were all very professional and kind. I whole-heartedly recommend Van Dickson Ranch and would 100% have another event here in a heartbeat.

Amazing hidden gem
If you were looking for a sign to have your wedding at a wonderful location, consider this to be your sign! We attended a friend’s wedding at the Van Dickson Ranch in Skull Valley, coming down just 25 minutes from Prescott. Van Dickson Ranch is a hidden gem that was absolutely breathtaking! The staff were amazing, as they quietly worked behind the scenes so well, we hardly ever saw them, and yet all of us guests were taken care of with such attention! The wedding party were so well looked after by Carolyn and Paul did such an amazing job feeding all of us giving us such a wonderful Tri Tip meal that led us into our wedding party and dancing all the food off! If you are wondering if a wedding venue in Skull Valley is worth a look, I highly recommend coming and talking with Carolyn and Paul and booking your wedding here! Married on 4/18/26

We loved having our wedding at Van Dickson Ranch! The staff was fantastic - very responsive in all of our communications leading up to the big day and extremely helpful in making sure things ran smoothly. The ranch itself is gorgeous, with lush green fields and huge oak trees everywhere that made for beautiful backdrops. On the day-of, the team really went above and beyond. They helped set everything up perfectly and were there anytime we needed anything. From the ceremony under the giant oak to the reception in the barn, Van Dickson was the perfect rustic-chic venue for our dream wedding. We couldn't recommend them more highly to other couples looking for a venue that delivers beautiful scenery and amazing service!
