As seen on HGTV's Frozen in Design, The Mod House is a wedding venue located 90 minutes from Manhattan in Ellenville, New York. Celebrate your big day at a luxurious midcentury modern retreat in the Catskill Mountains with a secret speakeasy inside it. The 4200-square-foot Mod House is an architectural gem built in 1959 by a follower of the renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The open-plan layout and floor-to-ceiling windows connect the spacious interior to the natural world outside. You can tie the knot on the lawn with a lush forested backdrop. After the ceremony, revel with your guests in Love, Velma, an underground speakeasy and dance club within the venue. The speakeasy comes fully equipped with a bar, projector, stage, and lights. Love, Velma is wheelchair accessible and can host up to 100 guests, with parking available for up to 40 cars. Four bedrooms are available if you prefer to stay on-site on the wedding night. A large open kitchen can accommodate caterers.

The 4200-square-foot Mod House is an architectural gem built in 1959 by a follower of the renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The open-plan layout and floor-to-ceiling windows connect the spacious interior to the natural world outside. Glossy wood flooring and elegant midcentury furniture give the solar-powered venue a retro feel. Three secluded acres also provide ample outdoor space for sunny day ceremonies. You can tie the knot on the lawn with a lush forested backdrop. After the ceremony, revel with your guests in Love, Velma, an underground speakeasy and dance club within the venue. Dance to the entertainment of your choice in an intimate and timelessly cool setting. The speakeasy comes fully equipped with a bar, projector, stage, and lights. Love, Velma is wheelchair accessible and can host up to 100 guests, with parking available for up to 40 cars. Four bedrooms are available if you prefer to stay on-site on the wedding night.

Wedding Welcome Party at Mod House
My husband and I hosted our Friday night welcome party at The Mod House during our wedding weekend last summer, and it was one of the most memorable parts of the entire celebration. We were looking for something different from a traditional welcome party—a place with great music, delicious food, plenty of room to mingle, and an atmosphere that encouraged people to relax, dance, and have fun. We envisioned a groovy 1970s-style house party, and The Mod House was absolutely perfect. The mid-century modern home is incredibly unique, with beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces, multiple bars, and an amazing speakeasy-style basement that created the perfect setting for the evening. Nick was fantastic to work with from start to finish. As someone who curates private music events throughout the year, he had excellent recommendations for bands and DJs and helped us create exactly the vibe we were hoping for. Based on his suggestions, we hired a DJ to play outside while guests enjoyed cocktails at his newly built outdoor bar and pizza from a food truck. Later in the evening, everyone moved downstairs to the speakeasy, where a local funk band performed and had the entire room dancing. Nick also helped us curate our drink menu and coordinated bartenders, making the planning process seamless. Every detail came together beautifully, and our guests are still talking about how much fun they had. Many told us it was one of the best welcome parties they had ever attended and such a refreshing alternative to the typical wedding weekend event. If you're looking for a venue with incredible character, great energy, and an unforgettable atmosphere, The Mod House is truly special. We couldn't have imagined a better place to kick off our wedding weekend.

The greatest place on earth
We had the wedding of our dreams this past weekend at Mod House, and it could not have gone better. From the very beginning of planning, Nick & crew made us feel so taken care of and allowed us to really connect with the space and feel comfortable. We so enjoyed our visits even before our wedding took place! Mod House is so perfectly preserved in time, but still feels modern enough to have a contemporary wedding. If you choose to go all-out on a retro vibe like we did, it will absolutely suit your vision. All of the little details of the space are so magical and our guests were so enamored by the entire house. There are so many cool spaces around the house that will entertain all types of guests. The speakeasy, which is a fully functioning underground jazz club, is our favorite part of the house. You can lounge, you can dance, you can enjoy the bar, and there’s even a secret room. Special shout-out to Laverne, the queen of the castle, for offering her canine emotional support to us & our guests. I don’t know if our wedding would have been as magical and perfect if we were in any other venue. Mod House will forever be so special to us and we can’t wait to visit again!

Mod House Marvel
We were Nick’s second ever wedding at The Mod House back in 2022 (I’m a bit tardy on this review, apologies world!) From the moment we reached out to him, to day-of, he was available, professional and willing to work with us on requests for our (literally) perfect wedding. He recommended local vendors for music and food, all of which we ended up hiring, and they were the perfect fit for the vibe we were going for. We enjoyed him so thoroughly, and wanted him to share in the vision he helped us create so we even invited him to all the wedding festivities and he was the best bonus guest. Our wedding party and families loved getting to know him and learning about the history of the house, the area, and of course, Love Velma. Speaking of the house and property, which really requires no introduction, is downright gorgeous. It is truly a gem, and all of the additions Nick has made over the last few years only adds to its charm. Love, Velma is a wonder and makes you feel transported to another era. It really felt like getting married ‘at home’ in the most glamorous way. Transported to another time—a fever dream, it still almost does not feel real to have been able to be married at such a beautiful place. You can ask us, or any of our guests, everyone will tell you it was the best, most chill, and most fun wedding they have ever been to. A lot of that compliment, if not most of it, is because of The Mod House and Nick’s care and curation of his marvelous jewel.

Just What We Were Looking For
The Mod House immediately aligned with our vision. Unstuffy yet refined, it was the perfect place to bring our 70s-inspired, disco, pure-fun house party wedding to life. Not only did we get the relaxed, effortless atmosphere we wanted, but also a glorious New York autumn backdrop for our ceremony. Leading up to the event, the Mod House’s owner, Nick, was incredibly accommodating—allowing us plenty of time to visit, plan, and get a feel for the space. The venue offered such splendid variety for us and our guests. Whether dancing and lounging in the speakeasy, relaxing by the firepit, or enjoying the warm, inviting interior of the Mod House’s great room, there was a perfect spot for everyone. Our guests couldn’t stop remarking that it was one of the most unique and memorable venues they’d ever been to. Our wedding day couldn’t have been more perfect. The Mod House gave us the freedom to create something personal, vibrant, and joy-filled. If you’re looking for a venue that feels effortlessly cool yet welcoming, we can’t recommend it enough.

Amazing venue!
The Mod house was a perfect venue! Nick made sure everything was seamless and was helpful throughout the process. The grounds are beautiful and the speakeasy added a super fun touch that all of our friends will talk about forever!
