About this venue

Located on the corner of Warren Ave. and John R St. in Midtown, the Michigan Science Center is one of several nonprofit organizations in Detroit’s cultural district. With live stage shows, an IMAX® Dome, a 4D theater, a Planetarium, an 8,700 square foot special exhibit hall, and 220+ interactive exhibits, the Science Center has a lot to offer children and adults alike. We are always looking to host new and exciting events! From strolling tastes to seated dining, our preferred caterers can do it all. Events can start with appetizers and open bar then flow into our Lunar Gallery for a meal amongst the rocket ships. Clients work directly with the caterer for food choice and payment. Our preferred caterers are out of this world!

Make use of the Science Stage with open stadium-style seating for 150-200, which you can see from the main level. Located on the middle level of the Science Center, the Earth Room is a basic, box-style room that can be set up however you would like. This space is empty as is and can be set up with tables, chairs, and a podium and microphone at the front of the room for gatherings of 25-30

At the Michigan Science Center, we are hosting events of all kinds throughout the year. Pricing for weddings is the same in December as it would be in August, and any other time of the year. We are open to working with you on finding an option to rent our venue that fits your needs!

Yes, but all alcohol needs to be brought in through a catering vendor. We need at least one person who is TIPS certified to be onsite with alcohol. This is always covered with catering services.
Yes we do. However, it is limited in our main parking lot at 5020 John R. We have around 40 parking spaces in our main parking lot. Parking in this lot is free to our guests and is first come first serve. After hours weddings typically have the entire parking lot minus our staff parking.
Yes, all our facilities are wheelchair accessible. We also have ramps at the main entrance, hearing-impaired fire alarm lights, elevators to all floors and trained staff.
The starting rental fee covers the cost of the building itself. All catering is outsourced as we do not have foodservice onsite. Depending on what is needed for tables and chairs those would need to be rented as well, we do have onsite options, but they are more set to day-to-day operations.
Our normal packages for after operating hours (Wednesday-Sunday 10:00AM-4:00PM) are in 4-hour blocks. Time can be added on top, and packages during operating hours can be spoken about on a case-by-case basis.
