    Adaptable & Accomplished

    I first met Mr. Walsh when he photographed my family and me on assignment for a Newsweek story and left a favorable impression as an all-round gracious and talented person. When it came time months later to choose a wedding photographer, naturally he was top of mind. While we were being careful with our overall wedding budget, we were willing to invest in photographs recording our big day, and I'm pleased to say that hiring Mr. Walsh was worth every penny. Since my husband and I are reserved individuals with many camera-shy family members, I hoped that Mr. Walsh's photojournalistic style would be just the ticket for capturing big and small moments without anyone feeling uncomfortable or unnatural -- and wow, did he deliver! He was calm, thorough, punctual, and evidently very practiced at switching seamlessly between unobtrusive documenter and patient cat herder (for our posed shots, including some impromptu guest-initiated requests!). We now have so many treasured photographs of this special event from start to finish (and better still, of all the people we were able to share it with). I highly recommend Carl Walsh and his incredible and skilled photographer's eye.

    Professional and flexible

    We found Carl through Zola. His communication throughout the process was prompt, and he met with us multiple times to ensure he understood what we were looking for and laid out his perspective as well. Carl took some time a couple weeks before the wedding to meet us at the venue so he could understand the layout. After the posed wedding party pictures and once the socializing began, things took a turn as nearly all guests wanted to pose with my wife and I. While that was not part of the initial plan as both Carl and us wanted more candid shots, Carl took every person's picture with our friends and the newly married couple. He didn't complain and just went with the flow as that is what seemed most natural and met the wants of the guests. He's a great guy who really cares about his craft and meeting the needs of his clients.

    Exactly what we needed and nothing more.

    Since I had worked as a newspaper journalist in Maine for 25 years, I knew Carl Walsh's work - and knew he was a talented photographer adept at getting beautiful, candid portraits in a short amount of time. But since David and I only had an hour for our outdoor wedding before our dinner reservation, I was not expecting Carl to deliver so many incredible images. Chiefly because Carl faced other challenges. To start, we got married at the outset of Covid-19 in a very small ceremony in which we had to social distance from my 84-year-old mother-in-law, who was fighting lung cancer. Add to that the fact Barbara hated having her photo taken. And then there was the gusting coastal wind that kept blowing my hair in my face. But in Carl’s photos, you don’t see any of that - just dozens of tack-sharp images of beautiful moments filled with tenderness and laughter. He turned our special day into art. And he did so seamlessly, quietly, confidently, and with a kind, happy spirit that added to the day's magic.
