Their communication style made planning so smooth - the coordinators were extremely responsive, effective, and quick with their replies. The venue space itself is just gorgeous - beautiful, clean, and well-maintained with a medieval flair that made me feel like a princess. The NHC team was fantastic at maximizing the layout and effortlessly handling all the details and logistics. They were very hands-on, doing everything they could so my husband and I felt no stress. Getting married at the Stevens Estate was the best decision we made! The venue is absolutely beautiful, but the best part of the entire experience was working with Helen! Helen made the planning process so easy for us. She is so great to work with and so detail orientated. She brought all of our visions to life and made sure everything went according to plan. She created back up plans in case of unexpected events such as rain and really thought through everything. On the day of, we really had no stress because of the work Helen and her team put in. We had a unique wedding ceremony where we had a traditional ceremony followed immediately by a Persian ceremony, and Helen made sure everything followed our customized timeline. She even personally oversaw all of the Persian Ceremony decorations/set up to ensure our valuable items were set up perfectly and packed up safely. In addition to Helen, we also had a lot of other people with Stevens Estate who made sure our day was perfect. One was our day-of wedding attendant who was so attentive! She went out of her way to make sure my husband and I were getting everything we needed on the day of. If you want a beautiful wedding venue with an incredible team and amazing food we can’t recommend Stevens Estate enough. We were so present and stress-free on the day of our wedding and that is all thanks to Helen and her team! (Photos are by Justs Photography)

We had our wedding at Olio in April 2025, and it was the perfect venue. We wanted something with an industrial vibe and large space, but the beautiful hardwood floors, ability to customize the space, and the welcoming owner, Sarah, are what truly sold it for us! As an LGBTQ couple, the most important thing to us was to be surrounded by people who support us. Sarah has created an inclusive place for all. Through her venue she is able to uplift a diverse range of communities and cultures. This shows to be a priority to Olio, so if you are looking for welcoming and inclusive, this is the place to be! The space itself is beautiful and has the option to bring in basically any kind of decor you could want. They offer several in house add ons including the string lights we chose to do. Olio provided a large list of preferred vendors, with the option to bring in any other vendors with approval. We used several from the preferred list and they were all amazing! The day of our wedding ran flawlessly. The Olio staff, along with our day of coordination (Without a Hitch), created a welcoming environment for our guests and ensured the day ran smoothly. We highly recommend Olio for any event you might be planning if you are looking for a special, welcoming, and beautiful venue!

The Hawthorn Portsmouth NH
Portsmouth, NH
  • Up to 250 guests
  • Raw space
  • Indoor
  • Starts at $15,000

Our story begins in 1858 when Frank Jones arrived in Portsmouth with a dream of brewing ale. Within three decades, The Frank Jones Brewery became the largest ale producer in the country. As ale production expanded, the brewery added a cooperage and scald house to clean the barrels. Workers used scalding hot rocks to sanitize barrels because soap and water would cause them to warp. Once cleaned, the barrels were filled with Jones’ signature ales. The Hawthorn now occupies this Scald House, retaining its original red-brick walls, towering beams, and industrial windows. “Cheers,” then, has a whole new meaning at The Hawthorn. When you raise your glass at your event, you’ll be toasting in a place that’s positively brewing with Portsmouth ale-making heritage and local history.

Originally designed in 1880, Moraine Farm has been hailed as "the finest existing example of Frederick Law Olmsted's approach to planning a country estate" by pre-eminent Olmsted scholar Charles E. Beveridge. Olmsted created lawns, hedges, rustic stone walls, and a magnificent meadow – and collaborated with Boston architects Peabody and Stearns to design a massive stone terrace facing the lake, extending the shingle-and-stone house into the landscape. The farm took its name from a low ridge of glacial debris, called a moraine, which Olmsted used to provide an elevated vantage point for the paths and carriage drives that looped through 75 acres of coniferous forest, passed lake and meadow views, and climbed to an overlook on the edge of the 40-acre farm.
