  • Starts at $1,000

In 1874, Father Theodore Butler purchased a home and a lot in Augusta, Georgia, for $10,000.00 to construct a building to be used as a church for the Catholic population and a school for children of all denominations. A simple Victorian structure served as a temporary facility for the church until work could begin on a larger, more significant building for the group. The first bricks were laid for Sacred Heart Church in 1897 and the church opened with the first service on December 2, 1900. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building features towering twin spires, graceful arches, fifteen distinctive styles of brickwork, ninety-four stained glass windows, a barreled vaulted ceiling, and intricately carved Italian marble altars. Unfortunately, due to a number of factors, the last mass was held in Sacred Heart on July 3, 1971.

I heard about Heyward Manor before it was officially complete. A friend was able to give us contact information and told us that we “just had to check it out.” At that time, when I googled Heyward Manor, I couldn’t find a single thing about it; however, I chose to trust my friend and reach out to the venue because it couldn’t hurt to visit. After making that phone call and speaking with Libby Black the first time, I wanted so badly for this venue to fit my wedding vision. I knew she would be great to work with. I wasn’t really sure what to expect during our visit, but we were welcomed to Heyward Manor with open arms, and it did not take long for us to fall in love with this special place. The venue is simply beautiful, and it had everything I wanted – long farmhouse tables, outdoor and indoor ceremony options, string lights, a lovely landscape, air conditioning, plenty of accessible parking, the most beautiful bridal suite, a unique space for groomsmen, stunning chandeliers, and characteristics that complemented the boho vibe that I love so much. Of all the venues I had visited, this was the one that I could actually envision my wedding taking place at. My family and I also instantly connected with Carol and Libby, and we knew that they would take good care of us. As a Christian, I felt so comfortable working with people of great faith. They live it out and share the love of Christ at every opportunity. My family was especially drawn to that. My husband and I got married at Heyward Manor on June 20, 2020 (yes, in the midst of the pandemic), and, looking back several years later, I still feel so blessed and grateful that God provided such a wonderful place for us to celebrate the best day of our lives. I think back on that day with so much joy as it was truly a dream come true. Heyward Manor was not only the most beautiful venue, but it was so accommodating, especially during such a difficult time. As June got closer and closer that year, I didn’t know what to expect from the venue. Everybody else I knew that was getting married during that time had to change their plans in some way. But Libby reassured me that my wedding would go on as planned. She explained everything they were going to do in relation to Covid precautions, and it made me feel so at ease. My whole family is extremely grateful for Heyward Manor, and everything the team did to help my wedding become a reality. Libby and her husband came out to help us with anything we needed that day, and the Heyward Manor team will always make sure you are seeing your vision come to life. This team was truly wonderful to work with, and I enjoyed getting frequent phone calls from them, keeping me updated throughout the whole process. Our wedding day was absolutely amazing! Everyone loved the venue, and guests still talk about how beautiful it was. I really could go on and on about the things we love about Heyward Manor, but I feel that anyone who steps foot on the grounds will feel the way we felt there – at home. Heyward Manor will always hold such a special place in my heart, and I love taking every opportunity I can to go back and visit.

There are many local legends surrounding this house and it’s friendly visitors. According to local tradition, the Bond-Bates-Hartley House served as a stagecoach stop and post office, prior to the founding of the town of Batesburg. Architecturally the house is a typical upcountry farmhouse, with a portico adapted from the Greek Revival style.

I am a wedding photographer, and I think the wedding that I shot at Hartley House in December 2021 might be my favorite one yet! The house itself is beautiful along with the perfect decor and design that is in every room. Photographers will be happy to hear that large windows in the getting-ready rooms bring in plenty of natural light! The locations for the ceremony and reception are right next to the house, which makes things very convenient for wedding party members and all the guests. The Hartley House staff is also very kind and easy to communicate with. I highly suggest booking this venue. I'd love to go back and photograph another wedding!

The Barn at 210 was the perfect place to have our wedding. The venue is stunning, especially during the fall when the leaves are changing. I may be biased though since we had our wedding during that season haha. Joan and Kenny are absolutely amazing! They tended to our every need and made sure that our day was perfect. We had so many people tell us it was the most beautiful/the best wedding they had ever been to. I truly believe that was because of all of the hard work Joan and Kenny put in to make sure our big day was spectacular. Everything was just stunning. I highly recommend The Barn at 210!! You won’t regret it! I added some pictures of the venue and also different pictures locations so everyone seeing this can see the different places throughout the venue! I had the privilege of working with Pam at The Gin on 391. As a wedding planner, the venue could not be more perfect. From the moment we stepped into the indoor chapel, we were captivated by its timeless beauty. The high ceilings with chandeliers, created the perfect ceremony backdrop. The seating arrangement ensured that every guest had a clear view of the ceremony, ensuring that no detail was missed. The acoustics of the ceremony and reception were exceptional, allowing every word of the vows to be heard and the reception. The spacious layout of the reception offered ample room for guests to mingle, dance, and enjoy the festivities. The attention to detail was evident! The convenience of having both indoor spaces not only added to the ease of planning but also maintained a sense of continuity throughout the celebration. Guests were able to move effortlessly from the ceremony to the reception, without any disruptions, allowing for a smooth and uninterrupted experience. The staff (Pam & Bret) at the venue deserve special mention for their exceptional service. From the initial planning stages to the day of the wedding, their professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine care for our needs were evident. What Questions Should You Ask Before Booking a South Carolina Venue?

Ask about exclusive catering requirements since historic venues often limit kitchen facilities for preservation reasons. Get clarity on exact rental periods as many venues offer limited time windows instead of full-day access which affects your timeline. Understand capacity limitations particularly for historic properties with preservation restrictions that might impact your guest list. Request specifics on accessibility features beyond basic ADA compliance to ensure all guests feel welcome. For waterfront venues inquire about preferred tent vendors for rain contingencies; you'll want options that complement the setting while providing proper protection.

How Do Seasonal Considerations Affect South Carolina Venue Selection?

Charleston faces hurricane risk from June through November with August bringing peak humidity that can challenge outdoor events. Greenville venues enjoy cooler temperatures than coastal locations giving you more comfort flexibility during summer months. June leads venue inquiry timing despite potential heat challenges because coastal venues benefit from refreshing sea breezes that inland locations can't match. Smart couples look for venues with climate-controlled backup options; an essential feature given South Carolina's sometimes unpredictable summer weather patterns that can shift from perfect to problematic quickly.
