Our wedding day was something out of a dream, and my husband and I cannot stop talking about it over one month later. The Penn Museum was absolutely the highlight of our wedding. From the ceremony space (Sphinx gallery!), to our cocktail hour (Pepper Hall), dinner in the Chinese Rotunda, and dancing with the mummies… the whole thing was breathtaking from start to finish. It was everything I had imagined and I wish we could do it over and over again. Atiya was simply the best, and I know I will be reminiscing on this day for years to come.

Like a backyard barbecue without the hassle of cooking and cleaning (for someone who doesn’t have a yard!) Cira Green was able to accommodate us with very little fuss. A couple emails back-and-forth and I had exactly what I wanted, they have lots of different food and drink options and I was able to pick what we needed. Good food, nice drinks, a beautiful view and the tent insured everyone would be comfortable rain or shine.

We had the most incredible experience hosting our wedding at the Carriage house! It has been taken over by Prime Hospitality catering who did an amazing job from start to finish! Our guests raved over the food, waitstaff, and bartenders! Katie and her team took care of every single aspect of our wedding which allowed my husband and I, our families, and our bridal party to be stress free and enjoy the day! I could go on and on about how amazing our wedding day was! Not a single thing went wrong, Katie and her team decorated the venue beautifully, the service was fantastic, and our guests continue to reach out about how beautiful the wedding venue was. It was better than I could’ve ever expected! I hope that the Carriage House starts to see an increase in weddings at their venue because they are truly amazing at their job! Katie coordinated and helped me with planning the wedding out from day 1. She worked relentlessly behind the scenes to ensure we had a great day. The food was the best wedding meal I have ever had and I’m not just saying that because I had my wedding here. The restaurant associated with the caterers “Brandywine Prime” makes amazing food. I will admit when initially wedding planning I was unsure of the carriage house due to the lack of online presence and photos of recent weddings. It is truly a hidden gem and definitely worth considering for your wedding day!!

Ballroom at Ellis Preserve

5.0

Newtown Square, PA
  • Up to 260 guests

  • Indoor & outdoor

Finley Catering’s suburban location, The Ballroom at Ellis Preserve, is a perfect complement to our center city locations. Opened in the Fall of 2016, The Ballroom stands as our 4th historical landmark in a pastoral green setting. All staffed and catered in-house, The grand Greek revival facility with its towering columns continues to honor the legacy of Charles Ellis, a local entrepreneur. Built in 1932, the location was used as a school for girls around the Philadelphia area. Now, Finley Catering plans to bring a totally new dimension to our brides and corporate clients by combining our culinary expertise and top-notch service with the idyllic grounds for an outdoor ceremony or cocktail hour along with the state-of-the-art grandiose Ballroom for your dinner and reception. An even better add on, the once- dorm like cottages next door are the perfect backdrop to many first look and couples portraits onsite.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Lush gardens
  • Multiple event spaces
  • Accommodates more than 200 guests

Venue considerations

  • Not for you if you are drawn to more unconventional venues
  • No on-site guest accommodations
  • Venue feels large for events with small guest lists
If you were on the fence about having your wedding at the Ballroom At Ellis preserve, or honestly at any of the Finley catering venues, DO IT IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN. As a generally detail oriented and type A person, I cannot fully express how exceptional the entire planning and day of process was with Finley. We worked closely with Meagan who was extremely responsive and helpful the entire time. As a bride, on the day of the wedding neither I nor my family had to think about a single detail – Finley handled it all. Savannah was our maître d’ for the day of the wedding and she was exceptional and made sure we were where we needed to be, when we needed to be there. Numerous people have told me that they have never been to such an incredible wedding and that everything flowed perfectly well and took the perfect amount of time. We didn’t even need to hire an outside planner or day of coordinator. And everything was perfect. This particularly blessed me because my husband and I had a six month engagement. We got engaged on January 30 and married on August 16. Planning the wedding in this short amount of time was made easy because of the expertise of Finley. Finley worked with us to ensure that we had all of the details we wanted for the day of, and also went above and beyond to make the planning process stress-free. I was particularly grateful that we did not have to bring in outside rentals – linens, China, silverware, tables and chairs, etc. was all done through Finley and it streamlined everything. It was so nice to just have to talk to one person instead of coordinating with numerous vendors. Megan also had great recommendations for other vendors! And I have to say - the food was AMAZING. We still have people raving about the food from our wedding, especially the insane cocktail hour display. Our dinner service was perfect, professional, and delicious. The venue itself was beautiful and beyond my dreams. It has all of the tradition of a historic building, with modern amenities and capacity for 200 people. The entire space is perfect and clean. Elegant and beautiful. The bridal suite’s size and the bridal attendants made the getting ready process seamless and kept the space calm and organized. I also appreciated how straightforward and transparent Finley was with their pricing and all that it included. Deeply refreshing to see from anyone in the wedding industry. I am a fan of Finley for life, the ballroom at ellis preserve was beyond my wildest dreams, and I am so grateful for their work to truly make the day the best of our lives.

There were no beautiful f flowers bloomed and the trees had lost their leaves BUT it was still perfect and stunning. The day of our wedding as we drove up to the venue I started to cry bc it was so much more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. Curtis Arboretum

Wyncote, PA
  • Up to 200 guests
  • All-inclusive
  • Outdoor

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Curtis Hall is surrounded by a 45-acre arboretum created by Frederick Law Olmsted, landscape architect for New York City’s Central Park. The “hall” is the original music ballroom of the 1893 Cyrus Curtis estate, "Lyndon". The capacity for dining and dancing is 200. Beyond the handsome wrought-iron entrance gates is a vintage setting of rolling hills, two ponds, an original pergola and 50 varieties of trees. Located in Wyncote, Cheltenham Township, Curtis Hall is just five miles from Center City Philadelphia.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Promotes a party atmosphere
  • Natural elegance with open spaces
  • Surrounded by nature

Venue considerations

  • No on-premises lodging options
  • Venue feels large for events with small guest lists
  • No in-house lighting and sound packages available
Curtis Arboretum was a breathtaking venue and the perfect backdrop for our wedding day. From the moment we arrived to the final dance, everything looked and felt magical. Our guests raved about the food, the grounds, and the overall experience. However, we did experience several disappointments that left us, as the bride and groom, feeling a bit forgotten. We missed out on key elements we were especially excited about, including the Seoul Kitchen station during cocktail hour and gelato chipwiches. While our guests enjoyed them, we never got to try either. The chipwiches were advertised as butlered to the dance floor, but never came out. After trying to get information from the coordinators, a bridal party member ended up making a tray himself and bringing it to us. We also didn’t receive several passed appetizers, the harvest table, or any table wine service during dinner. VIP drink service was inconsistent as us and our parents rarely received drinks from the staff. Dessert was served without notifying the emcee, so many guests (including us) missed it entirely. We only had the ceremonial bite of our wedding cake and didn’t get to enjoy any of the dessert stations. Sadly, the top layer of our cake, meant to be saved for our anniversary, was placed in a car staying overnight and ended up having to be thrown away. That tradition is now lost to us. We’ve shared our honest feedback with the venue and were met with a polite “thank you, we’ll share this with the staff,” along with a pitch to book another event. While these issues didn’t ruin our day in the slightest, they did impact our experience as the couple. Future couples: advocate for yourselves and confirm all promised services in writing to ensure you get what you’re paying for!! Curtis Arboretum is a beautiful venue, and we’re grateful for the memories, but we hope future weddings receive more attentive service for the couple at the center of it all.

From the staff to the galleries to the grounds, the Alverthorpe Manor/Abington Art Center was the perfect place to host our wedding. We enjoyed being able to get ready on site and have the ceremony and reception all in one place. Our guests enjoyed the local art and sculpture garden. It was a uniquely wonderful venue for us as a couple who didn't want a "traditional" wedding venue, and as foodies for whom it was really important to be able to bring in our own caterers! Payton, the private events coordinator, was so helpful with everything.

From the first time we toured La Luna, Mark, Karen, and their staff were incredibly kind, helpful, and personable. They were patient and sweet with our parents, grandparents, and other family members, and asked thoughtful questions to make sure we were all on the same page about the vision for our wedding. They were able to accommodate our bicultural family with a bilingual DJ and menu items that were not listed on their menu, and everything at our reception was laid out with care and attention to detail. Our wedding party also stayed at the manor house for our entire wedding weekend, which was so much fun and so perfect!! We would absolutely recommend La Luna to anyone looking for an amazing place to host their special event, that is also reasonably priced and includes so much in their packages. Mark and Karen, we are also honored to share our wedding anniversary with you- thank you for working our wedding on your anniversary! :)
