My fiancé and I were looking for a rustic wedding venue, not a ballroom, preferably a venue with space to be outside (weather permitting). We visited a few options in the Philly area and fell in love with the John James Audubon Center! The space offers SO many options for an outdoor or indoor ceremony. They host receptions in the pavilion which is open with huge windows and firepits outside! The site is beautiful, and everyone we’ve worked with has been immensely helpful! After officially booking for our October 2024 wedding, we planned to visit with our parents. What was originally intended to be a quick stroll around the grounds turned into an impromptu tour with the venue manage. She answered all of our parents' questions and even brought out photo books of previous weddings for us to flip through together. With the wedding right around the corner now, we could not be more thrilled with our decision and can't wait to be there next month to celebrate our big day!

Choosing Appleford for our wedding was hands down one of the best choices we made in wedding planning. From the first tour Lisa made the experience as easy and stress free as possible. Their recommended vendors and partnered caters were great, and the open houses they held made selection smooth and gave us peace of mind knowing we were making informed decisions. One reason we loved Appleford was knowing they had a good rain plan - unfortunately, we did have to use this rain plan for some of our day so we were so incredibly grateful that the inside of the estate was stunning and ready for indoor use when the time came. The onsite coordinator was helpful in every respect and helped with everything including wardrobe malfunctions for the mother of the bride (helping to sew her dress when it was needed)! Our guests raved about how beautiful the venue was which was obvious from the moment you step on the property. We cannot recommend Appleford enough and are so incredibly grateful that we chose them for our wedding day!

The day of our wedding as we drove up to the venue I started to cry bc it was so much more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. Stunning venue - the display garden is truly a one in a million place to get married. We initially planned to have our cocktail hour outdoors as we wanted to highlight the reflecting pool but unfortunately the weather didn’t permit - we had cocktail hour inside and it was still incredible. The whole team there was impressive and the food was truly delicious. My standards for wedding food are pretty low but it was excellent, and many of our guests commented that it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had (and they’d eat it again if they could). The whole team was lovely to work with. So, so glad we got married here!!

Curtis Arboretum

4.6

Wyncote, PA
  • Up to 200 guests

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Curtis Hall is surrounded by a 45-acre arboretum created by Frederick Law Olmsted, landscape architect for New York City’s Central Park. The “hall” is the original music ballroom of the 1893 Cyrus Curtis estate, "Lyndon". The capacity for dining and dancing is 200. Beyond the handsome wrought-iron entrance gates is a vintage setting of rolling hills, two ponds, an original pergola and 50 varieties of trees. Located in Wyncote, Cheltenham Township, Curtis Hall is just five miles from Center City Philadelphia.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Promotes a party atmosphere
  • Natural elegance with open spaces
  • Surrounded by nature

Venue considerations

  • No on-premises lodging options
  • Venue feels large for events with small guest lists
  • No in-house lighting and sound packages available
Curtis Arboretum was a breathtaking venue and the perfect backdrop for our wedding day. From the moment we arrived to the final dance, everything looked and felt magical. Our guests raved about the food, the grounds, and the overall experience. However, we did experience several disappointments that left us, as the bride and groom, feeling a bit forgotten. We missed out on key elements we were especially excited about, including the Seoul Kitchen station during cocktail hour and gelato chipwiches. While our guests enjoyed them, we never got to try either. The chipwiches were advertised as butlered to the dance floor, but never came out. After trying to get information from the coordinators, a bridal party member ended up making a tray himself and bringing it to us. We also didn’t receive several passed appetizers, the harvest table, or any table wine service during dinner. VIP drink service was inconsistent as us and our parents rarely received drinks from the staff. Dessert was served without notifying the emcee, so many guests (including us) missed it entirely. We only had the ceremonial bite of our wedding cake and didn’t get to enjoy any of the dessert stations. Sadly, the top layer of our cake, meant to be saved for our anniversary, was placed in a car staying overnight and ended up having to be thrown away. That tradition is now lost to us. We’ve shared our honest feedback with the venue and were met with a polite “thank you, we’ll share this with the staff,” along with a pitch to book another event. While these issues didn’t ruin our day in the slightest, they did impact our experience as the couple. Future couples: advocate for yourselves and confirm all promised services in writing to ensure you get what you’re paying for!! Curtis Arboretum is a beautiful venue, and we’re grateful for the memories, but we hope future weddings receive more attentive service for the couple at the center of it all.

This was truly the venue of our dreams! From the moment we had our initial tour, Megan was such a pleasure to work with and helped make our wedding dreams a reality. She always quickly responded to any questions we had throughout the process and frequently checked in with us during our many months of planning to ensure we had all of our bases covered. Everyone at the ballroom felt like a good friend the moment you met them -- from the bartenders to our maître d', Savannah, everyone was so friendly and excited to help us celebrate our big day. The staff truly made everything seamless, and my husband and I (and our families!) barely had to think or worry about anything throughout the night. We have gotten nothing but rave reviews about the ballroom and food, and Finley Catering helped make it all possible!
