Charlottesville has been kind to us for the past 15 years. I started my photography business here and raised three sons (21, 17, 14) with my husband. The Space Downtown was created in late 2010 by owners of chefs Tim Burgess and Vincent Derquenne. The two have been partners since 1991, creating their first restaurant Metropolitain which operated in the same location as Space. It closed in 2003 and the chef pair sold the restaurant but remained owners of the building. In early 2010, the location became vacant and the two decided to open for private parties only. In addition to the Space Downtown, the pair operate Bizou and Bang restaurants, all three close in vicinity to one another.

At first glance, Josh Gooden and Serena Jae are cinematographers. For over a decade they have nurtured their fondness for enchanting imagery and emotive audibles, creating fine art heirlooms with a distinguishable luminosity. Beyond a deep-rooted affection for their artistry, however, is a much simpler aspiration for their collaborative filmmaking partnership. I have been a professional photographer for over 30 years. I began my education at UVA, where I was an Echols scholar. Seeking a school with a greater focus on fine arts studio work, I transferred to the San Francisco Art Institute, where I earned a B.F.A. in Photography and Filmmaking. Throughout my career I have traveled and photographed extensively in Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. I have visited and photographed more than 50 countries. I have founded 3 non-profit arts organizations: Live Arts Theater, Light House Studio, and LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph.

We have been involved in video production for over a decade and have been creating wedding films for couples for the past 10 years. The style and approach we take ensures you aren’t given just a video, but rather a carefully edited, cinematically beautiful film, full of all of the la crème moments of the day. We love the details, and it is those details that make each wedding completely different from the last. Trusting someone to capture all of those details and memories is not an easy task, but we hope our work speaks to the experience we bring and the care that we take to each wedding.

As a classically trained photographer I am both a technician and an artist. I approach photography as a means of artistic expression, but my first priority is always people—listening to them, capturing them as they truly are, and documenting their lives in a way that gives permanence to life’s most meaningful moments. We began serving Charlottesville with French and Virginia-inspired cooking at our restaurant, l’etoile, in 1993. Our catering business grew out of that experience, and out of our desire to take part in the celebrations, the rituals, and the ceremonies of people throughout the Central Virginia community.
