Katya Rusin established Lavka Flowers with the singular goal of revisioning the sentiment and enjoyment of what was once a humble act; the giving and accepting of flowers. As the lead designer, Katya is inspired most by art and it's a visual quality that connects people. She translates this visual quality through the use of color to transform individual flowers into a collective whole. Katya achieves her designs by utilizing the elements of design with an appreciation for texture.

You know those first few months that you fall in love & everything is so wonderful & terrifying & just so damn GOOD? It's that “new love” feeling & I’ve never been able to replicate that feeling with anything else, except photography. Your wedding day tells the story of your love. From that “new love” to the more comfortable kind, it is the culmination of all those moments leading up to “I do.” I consider myself the narrator of that day, telling that story and documenting your connection through my photographs.

We built our space to be unique and original in many ways but also very minimalist and interchangeable. Our tasting room is 1,000 sf with 2 concrete bars. Large windows open onto the sidewalk. One small bar is good for the DJ set up or serving food! Lights are all dimmable to create different moods. The main feature of the space is the large circular bar with 40 taps behind it and a big circular window that overlooks our production space. On tap we have a large selection of our cocktails (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), local beers, spirits and wine. There are 2 restrooms. There is plenty of seating, bar seats, custom bench and circular tables, all can be moved or removed. We also offer full packages including coordinating catering, djs and florals with additional add ons such as fun booths or photographers. Send us a message if you want to see more!

On property, the max event we can have would be a standing reception on the rooftop in Lillistar of 300 guests. Our max seated wedding dinner would be in the Garden and we can fit up to 120 guests. When I'm not shooting weddings, I’m a total beach bum. This might sound like an oxymoron coming from a native Montrealer, but I adore the ocean (and very much dislike winter). I swim and surf whenever possible, and I get out to the Rockaways as often as I can. I do a ton of beach photography, including a series about couples at the beach, and I’ve been published a few times, including here and here. I found my passion for art while growing up surrounded by horses in a small town in Brazil. The shapes, textures, and colors of the horses always have been inspiring to me. I’ve always wanted to recreate them, but was never really able to. Honestly, my painting/drawing skills were and still are terrible, and that’s when photography came up in my life. I would create imaginary cameras out of my toys and would ‘photograph’ the horses and my neighbors. Photographing people became my passion and then evolved into my work in editorial and wedding photography.
