The James Simon family commissioned Houston architect Alfred C. Finn, whose career included designing a number of prominent Houston buildings as well as the San Jacinto Monument, to design the theatre for the community of Brenham. Today, after a meticulous million-plus dollar renovation, the glamour and grand style lives on for future generations in the newly named Barnhill Center at Historic Simon Theatre. The Middleton venue is a brand new event venue that just finished building in September 2023. This cozy luxurious event center is also a historical replica of the Stewart and Wright drugstore that was once in old Katy! The Middleton venue is a cozy 1274 ft.² we do provide tables chairs for your event. Our Max occupancy is 85 people standing 65 seated. We have two wheelchair accessible bathrooms with baby changing stations in both and easy parking right next to the venue.

The town of Navasota was founded in 1854 and the tracks brought the railroad by 1859. One of the first buildings built here was a hotel, built by Ms. Louisa Loftin. She was quite the ambitious widow for a woman during the late nineteenth century. Conflicting research shows the hotel was either built as early as 1860 or as late as 1876. She soon met and married P. A. Smith and the hotel bore his name. At first, the railroad brought a great number of patrons, but, unfortunately, the Civil War brought the economy of Navasota as well as the success of the hotel, down, after only a few years.
