The most helpful site ever
We had no clue what we had to put on our invitations, and Zola answered even our craziest questions.
When it comes to your celebration, you might wonder how much your invitation will influence your guests’ first ideas about the day. Frequently, it’s the invitation that gives friends and family the first real sign that something special is about to take place, and people often look at the style and wording right away to get a sense of what to expect.
If you’re thinking about creating an elegant invitation, you’ll usually recognize it by its simple, careful details—or maybe by the way it uses clean lines, basic shapes, and clear writing (like the standard model that has clear letters with thin borders). Sometimes, you’ll notice a modern, plain look (such as a card that leaves open space and focuses on the information that matters most), while other styles use small, quiet touches—maybe a bit of shine or a thin frame—to offer a nice but simple feeling. Even just using good paper and clear, polished fonts (without extra details or hard words) can make an invitation feel comfortable and right for a big day.
When you look at the options, portrait layouts are chosen by about three-fourths of people—perhaps because this shape feels strong and formal but not too stiff. Landscape styles, which fewer than one in ten select, can be a good fit for those who want a new or fresh feel.
You might ask if adding your photo makes an invitation better. Most couples don’t use one (about 92% send invites without any photo), since you can show style and meaning as is, just by picking the right design and wording. If you do use a photo, one is enough—collections are rare.
Adding special features—like a thin border, a natural wreath, or a gentle arch—can help your invitation stand out, often in a soft way that’s easy to notice but never too much. Numbers show that about 10% add a frame, just 2% choose a wreath, and only 1% include an arch for that soft, curved motion.
Timing isn’t just about the day you send the envelope. You’ll need to order invitations four to six months ahead, especially if you want custom art or print. Usually, invites go out about eight to ten weeks before your day, and you might need a bit more time if you’re using calligraphy or lots of custom choices.
If you worry about the cost, you’ll be glad to know that style doesn’t always mean big spending. One option is to pick great paper for the main card and use standard stock for the rest, or maybe include just one high-end look and use digital print for most of the pieces. You can also have calligraphy on the main envelope and printed names inside, if you like.
When it’s time to pick your words, do you want them to sound classic, relaxed, or a mix? Formal writing often uses third-person and titles, which signals a traditional event, while a more relaxed letter keeps the same names and titles but adds a touch of personality. If you want a modern, elegant mix, it’s common to use direct words that show both your style and what’s important about your day.
More than just an announcement, your invitation sets the feeling for your entire celebration—and, when chosen well, it makes sure what matters about this day stays with your guests before they step in the door.
