About this venue

Sayen House & Gardens, located in historic Hamilton Square, NJ, was established in 1912 by Frederick Sayen, a passionate world traveler and gardener. He built a charming bungalow and surrounded it with exotic plants from China, Japan, and England—many of which still thrive today. The gardens boast over 1,000 azaleas, nearly 500 rhododendrons, and more than 250,000 spring bulbs that create a stunning seasonal display. Picturesque walking trails, gazebos, fish ponds, and vibrant floral arrangements offer a peaceful escape year-round. With its breathtaking natural setting, Sayen House is the perfect venue for weddings, celebrations, showers, business meetings, and more.

The venue comfortably accommodates 80–85 guests and features a cozy 15 x 18 ft dance floor perfect for a DJ or small band.     We chose Sayen House & Gardens for our micro wedding and couldn't have been happier with the decision. The property is absolutely stunning in spring—the gardens and house both provided the perfect backdrop for our evening without us having to do much decorating. What really impressed us was how seamlessly everything came together, the catering is a monopoly; our catering coordinator Joanne stepped up and helped manage the space too, making sure every detail was handled. Our guests raved about the venue itself—there's something special about getting married in a place that's been so well cared for by the township. The pricing was very reasonable, which meant we could spend our budget on other things that mattered to us. We'd absolutely recommend Sayen House & Gardens to any couple planning an intimate celebration. The rains earlier in the day made the gardens look like a rainforest out of fairy tales

    Positively Perfect

    You get a better price if you're a township resident, but even the pricing for out-of-township couples was still so reasonable! The location was very close to the train station and there was plenty of parking available for our guests. You'll be limited to their approved caterers and we went with D&D and the food was fantastic. They even had a special spread for our vegan family members which we greatly appreciated! The Temple Garden was beautiful and we really lucked out with our photographer knowing the location well enough to recommend where to shoot our pictures. But I definitely recommend going at least once to scope out where you want your couple pictures taken.

Once you have decided on the Sayen House for your event, payment in full is required in order to reserve your date. When payment is received, a contract will be emailed to you. Please read, sign, make a copy for your records and return the original to the Sayen House Program Coordinator.
Yes, we accept cash.
If your event is canceled, you will be refunded the total amount if notified in writing 10 days prior to your event. If you cancel less than 10 days, then you will forfeit the entire reservation payment. Deposit/Rental fee is non-transferable.
Yes. They are in a contractual agreement with Hamilton Township. However, you may bring in your own cake/desserts. They must be dropped off the day of your event.
Yes, you can have outside events.
The maximum amount of guests is 98. However, 80-85 fit more comfortably.
Appointments to view the Sayen House are by appointment only on Thursday afternoons with the Program Coordinator You are allowed up to two visits prior to your event.
Yes! Directly behind the house is the beautiful Temple Gardens. That area is exclusive to you when you rent the Sayen House. There is an electrical outlet if needed. Chairs for the ceremony are not included.
If you are renting the house, your ceremony would take place inside the Sayen House in the location you desire.
. If you are having your wedding ceremony/reception at the Sayen House & Gardens, you have a total of five (5) hours. One hour for your ceremony and photos and a four (4) hour reception. For all other events, the rental period will be for four (4) hours.
Yes. However, this must be arranged by the Sayen House Program Coordinator to ensure another ceremony is not taking place during this time.
Your start time is entirely up to you; however, all events must be over by 11:00 p.m.
Yes! There is small dance floor with room for a DJ or small band. The dance floor is approximately 15 x 18 feet long.
Yes! The sound system can be hooked up to your CD’s, IPads and IPods.
Yes. The Sayen House is handicapped accessible with a 2-person elevator in the back of the house. The bathroom however, is not.
No. You may have someone drop them off in front of the house using the access road. After your event, they may be picked up in the same manner.
Your guests may park in the Sayen Gardens parking lot or along Hughes Drive.

Yes, there is a bridal suite.
Set-up and clean-up is the responsibility of the caterer you have chosen.
Your caterer will be on-site approximately 2 hours prior to your start time. It is during this time that you, and anyone making deliveries, will have access to the house.
You may decorate the 3 fireplace mantels, credenzas, & bathroom. Please do not tape, hammer or nail anything on the walls/ceilings. There are ample hooks throughout the house for your decorations.
No, lit candles inside or outside the house only battery operated.
Yes. Rehearsal is done on certain days. (Please contact Program Coordinator to arrange date).
Yes.
Yes. However, after your event, please make sure any decorations are cleaned up.
No. Only battery operated candles may be used outside.
Your guests may smoke on the front/back porch of the Sayen House where a cigarette butt receptacle is provided.
No. For the safety of others and the botanical gardens, please refrain using the above. Bubbles are an acceptable option.
Yes. Please contact Sayen House Program Coordinator for vendor information.
No. You must provided your own Officiant or you may contact the Sayen House Program Coordinator for the current list of potential officiants.
Yes! You may chose the vendors that meet your needs.
Yes. The Sayen Gardens is open to the public 7 days a week during daylight hours.
For each event at the Sayen House, Security Guards are scheduled.
