  • Beautiful, Many Ants, No Cell Service For T Mobile

I was part of a bridal party at a wedding at this location. I am also a violinist who has worked all over the SC lowcountry. I am used to recieving clear instructions and a friendly, kind welcome from the managers of venues, but was a bit surprised by one of the property managers here who was upset about anything being on the grass (I had not been informed ahead of time that this would be an issue, and parking was a bit confusing). I didn't feel the southern hospitality I would expect, but it is still a beautiful place. My friend, the bride, seemed to have an overall positive experience booking the place, and staying there was so beautiful! I loved the nature and history, and the ceremony and reception (and river access) were amazing! Heads up: no cell service for T Mobile (verizon and AT&T users seemed fine), and no wifi that I knew of. LOTS OF ANTS despite the owner's best efforts, so highly recommend wearing closed toed shoes (and putting down some kind of fabric under the reception area). I counted over 100 bug bites on myself after the wedding despite spraying myself. The overall experience was quite positive, however, and I hope this venue continues improving!

I arrived to DJ a wedding reception for a friend of the family. I found myself running 200 feet of cable to get power to the reception location. During the reception my wife was attacked by fire ants. I pointed out the ant problem during load in and noticed some effort by the staff to control the ant problem. I was also told they will move a few feet from the spray. After the event I backed my trailer near the tent to load out and was scolded for driving on the grass. The whole place is grass and parking directions were vague at best from the staff. There was no southern hospitality present at this venue. Some of the wedding party felt the same vibe. I am a Citadel graduate and have been doing production for over 30 years. This was below average management with an attitude. Power distribution was onsite but not offered. I backed up too close to the tent to avoid the ants that were pointed out and not sprayed. I offered to pay for any damage in hopes of easing the stare of contempt I was getting for way too long. I calmly left with my injured wife. What a let down. I was excited to play in a historic location and left with no desire to ever be back.

Whitewater provides a beautiful venue and the enthusiastic staff were very easy to work with.
