We loved getting married at Bar Carlo!!!!

We absolutely loved having our 55-person wedding at Bar Carlo. The owner Mel is at the same time very supportive and very low-key, which made for a smooth planning process and day-of event. The space is gorgeous, and has multiple connected wings, which allowed for the the party to morph seamlessly over the night from barside cocktail hour to outdoor patio ceremony to dinner buffet to dance floor. The space is already a beautifully decorated artwork, and Mel lets you decide how to arrange the space for your event, but you can also bring your own decorations/sound system/llama and she can handle those additions easily. The food and drinks were delicious too, and Mel was able to accommodate our entirely vegan and gluten-free menu without hesitation. Overall we loved the unique-ness, flexibility and good vibes of the space and the people of Bar Carlo, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a cute and fun space for their wedding or other event. -Nicola & Lou

BEST WEDDING I EVER HAD!

Melinda and everyone at Bar Carlo did such an incredible job of making everything perfect for us and our forty guests. The spaces (both restaurant and the outdoor alleyway/stage that served as the aisle and the altar) were made available in plenty of time to decorate, and it all looked gorgeous! The food was AMAZING (especially the shrimp, and the best chips and guacamole I’ve ever had), and I’m still getting texts like “What a beautiful wedding, Em. You looked beautiful. But the FOOD, oh my God, the food was SO GOOD…” It truly was the exact opposite of the dreaded Rubber Chicken wedding. Communication was smooth and answers always came fast; my random requests were always met by a “Yeah, I’m sure we can make that happen.” And happen they did! The bartender was fabulous, drinks were amazing, and our “signature” Negroni slushy was…well…it was maybe a little too good. Everyone has an amazing time, and my *husband* and I are eternally grateful to Mel and her staff for making it happen.

Wonderful place to get brunch

Bar Carlo is one of those places that just gets the neighborhood spot vibe right. Good drinks, great food, a cute space, and a staff that makes you want to come back. The bartenders are always kind, attentive, and somehow manage to keep everything moving even when we’re happily posted up for a while. The drinks are reasonably priced, the service is great, and it’s an easy place to settle in for a long brunch. The space is adorable without feeling overdone. The plants, decor, and little details make it feel warm and intentional, and you can tell a lot of thought went into it. The Monte Carlo is a total flavor bomb, the guacamole is delicious, and my biggest recommendation is to add the crispy carnitas to EVERYTHING. ;) Bar Carlo has become one of our go-to spots when we want good food, drinks, and a place where we can actually relax for a bit. Definitely worth checking out.

This place is such a gem. Their tamarind margarita is absolutely one of Portlands best cocktails. Come for brunch, my favorite is the elote hash, or come for golden hour for the best post-work snacks in town.
