Alder and Pine Photography
I'm McKenna and at Alder & Pine, I specialize in candid and emotive wedding photography. I love the energy of every special moment that comes with weddings. The perfect day begins with you; your originality, taste, and style which inspires everything that I do. I strive to illustrate your love story through my lens, providing you with a beautiful collection of images. Based in Plains, MT- no travel fee within Western Montana and Northern Idaho.
My style can be described as candid, timeless and romantic. Myself and my team will document the genuine in between moments that happen throughout your wedding day. My style is more photojournalistic for the getting ready, ceremony and reception coverage. I am happy to help guide you with prompts during your bridal portraits to bring out your chemistry and dynamic while making sure you both are comfortable and captured at the most flattering angles. After the wedding I edit with timeless true to color edits. Rich in true color images that you will enjoy for years to come.

“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” — The Fellowship of the Ring When it came to our Pacific Northwest Shire wedding, the time given to us was fleeting — one day, one ceremony, one chance to live inside a dream. What McKenna Ross of Alder & Pine gave us was the ability to hold onto that time forever. Her photography is so much more than images — it is story, soul, and atmosphere. From the very beginning, she went above and beyond: during our engagement shoot she literally waded knee-deep into a freezing river in late November just to capture the perfect shot. That dedication carried through every step of our journey together. On the wedding day itself, McKenna was more than a photographer — she was a true event professional and steady presence. She pinned boutonnieres, adjusted my veil, and offered tips and tricks that only someone with years of wedding magic could know. When the rings were forgotten mid-ceremony, McKenna didn’t hesitate for a second — she sprinted into our home to retrieve them, saving the moment with calm and grace. And though I didn’t even know it at the time, she had recently moved from Washington to Montana, and still drove all the way back just to be there to capture our day. Her artistry speaks for itself in every photo — golden light, candid joy, quiet forest magic — but it’s her professionalism, dedication, and heart that truly set her apart. McKenna didn’t just document our wedding, she safeguarded it. We are endlessly grateful for her work and for the memories she preserved. Our photos are treasures we will cherish for a lifetime, reminders that while time itself cannot be held, its light can be. We couldn't be happier!
Alder and Pine Photography were fantastic to work with from start to finish. Their communication was fast, friendly, and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. We really loved how the pictures turned out - the editing is exactly the feel we wanted for our wedding day. McKenna helped come up with the timeline for our day and kept everyone on schedule. She was much more than a photographer and I'm sure our day wouldn't have gone so perfect without her. I highly, highly recommend Alder and Pine. We could not be happier with our experience. They made the photo taking fun and easy and our pictures turned out amazing!
Captured Our Day Perfectly
We couldn’t have asked for a better photographer for our wedding! She was the sweetest, most thoughtful person to work with and truly went above and beyond to make sure our day was absolutely perfect. From capturing incredible shots from the balcony, to filming our “I do’s,” and even recording the heartfelt speeches at my mom’s place during the reception—she did it all with such care and creativity. She even gave us extra time to make sure every special moment was captured, and we are so grateful for that. Her photos turned out absolutely stunning, perfectly reflecting the vibe and energy of our day—exactly what every bride dreams of. Not only did we get beautiful memories to cherish forever, but we also felt so comfortable and cared for throughout the entire process. Truly, she is amazing at what she does, and I would recommend her a thousand times over!
Not great
I’m more than 8 months past my wedding day and I still get pretty bummed about how our photos turned out. My siblings’ wedding photos all turned out amazing, so I didn’t think it would be so hard to capture good family and friend photos, but our family photos were some of the worst family photos we’ve ever taken. The chosen backdrop was awful and people weren’t directed well to get the best shot. We could’ve had better shots from our big day, but it’s hard to know what you’re going to get beforehand.
