I am a small business owner of a very small niched art form. But what many people see when they look at henna is just another fun vacation or summer activity. What many people don’t see, and even fewer get the chance to experience is the sheer overwhelming connection that henna can invite into your life. Henna takes into account where you are at in your life, including your goals, your wants, wins, and failures, in order to create the most personalized piece possible.

Anndell Wubben is the talented artist behind Henna Harvest based in Sioux Falls, SD. Sought out for her skilled and highly detailed work in Modern Henna, she specializes in illustration, realism, and realistic florals. A firm believer that henna knows no gender, age, or style, she connects with her clients on a personal level to deliver beautiful works of art. Henna is a plant, (Lawsonia Inermis) said to be indigenous to Egypt and in use for over 5000 years. Used both as traditional folk medicine and as a decorative cosmetic the henna plant was spread around the Middle East, North Africa, and the Persian Gulf, finally reaching Central Asia. The leaves of the henna plant have a natural dye molecule that stains the skin when left in contact.
Henna only comes in one natural color. This color can be affected by the powder/paste, how fresh the paste is and how long it is left on the skin for. Natural henna is anywhere from a light brown to a rich mahagony color.
With proper preparation and aftercare henna can last from 1-3 weeks. How fast the henna fades depends on aftercare and the placement on the body. Areas that are in higher use - such as the palms and fingertips - will typically fade a little faster than the rest of the design. The rest of the henna design will gradually fade as your skin naturally replenishes itself.
