Paper, simple chemicals, water and sunlight - and some patience and expertise - magically produce images from a deep, calming blue dreamscape. You already have great photos. Whether you're a photographer, bride, groom, parent, family member or loved one ... whether the wedding happened 50 years ago, last week or is still in the works -- give the precious gift of a beautiful blue print made by hand by a master Cyanotypist and former wedding photographer.

As far as we know, Cyan Art Studio is the ONLY place offering custom, hand-made Cyanotype prints to wedding clients. We hope that wedding planners, photographers, designers and brides, grooms and family members will consider this amazing opportunity to make something already beautiful into something MAGICAL. Cyanotype is a printing process that was discovered in 1842 and was used for making photo prints (from Daguerrotype and other negatives) and architectural blueprints and other applications well into the 20th Century. Cyanotype printing is slightly similar to traditional black & white printing, but instead of using an enlarger and full-spectrum light to expose the negative onto VERY sensitive black & white sensitized paper, Cyanotype printing paper ONLY reacts to the Ultraviolet end of the light spectrum, the "negative" has to be printed and pressed against the Cyanotype paper, and Cyanotype prints need long exposure times.
First of all, there's the COLOR. The color blue is favored by people worldwide, probably because of its deeply soothing, calming effects on us. Second, all our Cyanotypes are HAND MADE, using the highest quality, durable fine art watercolor papers. Hand-made beauty like this shows your loved ones that you care about offering a personal touch. If you live in Northern California or nearby and can travel to the beautiful Mendocino Coast, you could even make these prints YOURSELF, with the patient guidance of an expert in a legitimate Cyanotype printing studio. There's no greater gift than the one you make with YOUR OWN HANDS.
It's very easy! Take a look at our very simple pricing structure in our Zola profile. Decide what your maximum budget would be for spending on Cyanotype prints. Look through not only the photos from your professional wedding/engagement photos, but also those taken and posted online by friends/family who attended the wedding and perhaps posted their own photos online. Choose the photos you MOST want to see everyday in your home, office or special space (or that you MOST want to give as a gift), decide how many of them you want printed at the sizes that fit your budget, and contact us via phone or email for next steps.
If you're the bride and/or groom, you should have access to high-resolution photos taken by a professional photographer, or whomever you chose to photograph your wedding. Surely the family members and guests also took lots of great smart phone photos and posted them on social media. Gather your fave photos and check for the SIZE of each image file. Here's a basic guideline to make sure your photos can be printed at the size you want: 8x10 inch: 1000x1400 pixels (minimum) 12x16 inch: 2200x3100 pixels (minimum) 16x20 inch: 2900x3600 pixels (minimum) EMAIL US with your photos and any questions, we'll help you figure it out!
