How did you get started as a caricature artist?

People ask me this more than any other question. I have been an artist my whole life and earned my degree in Fine Art in 1994. But I didn’t use it. In fact I was working at a nursing home as an activity director. My mom saw an ad in the paper for a local theme park looking for artists. They would train the right person. So I interviewed and got the job! I soon figured out I was better suited to doing parties and got my first booking agent that year. Since then I have drawn caricatures in Las Vegas for a decade at some of the largest events in the world. In 2016 I moved to the gulf coast & focused on weddings. I love it here and love my job!

What is your booking process like?

When you contact me, I’ll ask a few quick questions and provide a quote. Most weddings fall in the $1,500–$3,000 range depending on guest count, coverage time, and location. After that we can schedule a quick chat so I can answer your questions and make sure we’re a great fit. When you’re ready to move forward, I’ll send over a booking agreement. I also guarantee 100% of your money back if I ever cancel for any reason. In 27 years I’ve never missed a wedding, but you still deserve the guarantee. A 50% retainer secures your date, and I do my best to make the entire process easy and stress-free.

Do you provide color? Is it more?

Yes I can do color. In fact the bride and groom always get color. Color is the same price as black and white drawings. However they do take longer to draw which works well for more intimate weddings. I also offer themed bodies at no additional charge.

What areas do you service?

I’m based in coastal Alabama and typically serve weddings across the Gulf Coast, including southeast Louisiana (New Orleans and Baton Rouge), coastal Mississippi (Biloxi, Hattiesburg, and Jackson), central and coastal Alabama (Mobile, Baldwin County, Montgomery, Birmingham, and Tuscaloosa), and the Florida Panhandle (Pensacola, Destin, and Panama City). I’m also happy to travel to other destinations; for events outside my normal service area, I simply ask that travel expenses be covered.

I’m a little nervous about getting drawn. Do you do those ugly/mean caricatures like on tik tok?

I’m known for drawing flattering portrait-style caricatures that actually look like your guests. I do this intentionally. Years ago someone drew me with one of those extremely exaggerated caricatures and I didn’t like it at all. It made me realize most people want to look good in their drawing — not silly or distorted. According to a major booking site, only about 60% of guests at an event typically choose to be drawn. Because my style is flattering, it’s common for nearly all of the guests at a wedding to line up. It also helps that I’m one of the fastest caricature artists in the world, drawing about 20–30 guests per hour.

How many guests can you draw during a wedding?

I typically draw 20+ guests per hour, which is about twice as fast as the average caricature artist. This keeps lines shorter so the reception keeps flowing and guests don’t have to miss other parts of the celebration. Because of the speed, many couples don’t need to hire a second artist, which saves money. At many weddings I’m able to draw most — or even all — of the guests before the night is over.

Do you draw couples together?

Yes, absolutely! Couples, friends, and families are welcome to sit together, and many guests love sharing the experience and laughing during the drawing. I use larger 12×18 paper so I can comfortably draw not just couples but small groups as well. The larger format also looks much better when framed and allows me to fit up to 6–8 people on one page, which works perfectly for families and groups of friends. I actually learned this while working in Las Vegas — part of the fun is the show, and the larger paper makes it easier for guests to gather around and watch the artwork come to life.

Absolutely. I love themed weddings and can design caricatures that match your wedding style. Whether it’s a beach wedding, vintage theme, rustic celebration, fairytale wedding, or something playful like Star Wars or Beauty and the Beast, I can incorporate elements of your theme into the drawings.
