Q: What do you wear?

We wear a classic black suit and tie with a white or grey button-up shirt.

Q: Do you take music requests?

It's never a bad thing to listen to guest request, but we do use our best judgment to decide if we actually play a request or not, based on our past experience playing the song and our conversations with you, the couple hosting the event. Even if a song request will not quite fit the vibe of the event, it may guide us to play something similar that would work for the dance floor.

Q: Are you fully insured?

Yes. We are happy to provide proof of insurance if you or your venue request it.

Q: How early do you come to set up?

We arrive 1.5-2 hours before our start time for set up. We like to give plenty of time so we don't have to rush.

Q: Do you provide other services, such as lighting or photo booths?

Yes, we can provide full Uplighting, Pin Spots, Monograms, Marquee Letters and Mirror Photo Booth!

Q: What are your sales taxes?

All taxes are included in the price.

Q: What is your travel and break down fee?

We do not charge for setup or break down. We only charge from the time we start playing music at the beginning of the event until we stop playing music at the end of the event. Our travel radius is 2 hours from Griswold, CT. Anything beyond that would require a travel fee and/or hotel accommodations.

First and foremost, we’re lovers of music and we started DJing to share that love with the world. We come from a nightclub background with a focus on playing music that makes people dance! We use our smooth nightclub mixing and blending techniques to make every transition between songs smooth, seamless and interesting to keep the energy up so there is always a fun vibe on the dance floor.

Dawson Entertainment is a DJ, lighting and photo booth company founded by Jason Dawson (DJ JD) in 2007. With his background in nightlife event production as Music Director and resident DJ at Shrine Nightclub inside Foxwoods, Jason combines the high energy, smooth transition mixing style of a nightclub DJ with the refined experience and fun playlist of a wedding DJ to keep the dance floor rocking! All of our DJ's come from this background of skilled mixing. We booked Dawson Entertainment for our December 2025 wedding and all I can say is WOW. We found Dawson Entertainment through a mutual friend after another DJ that we liked didn’t have our date available. I am beyond grateful that the chips in place fell the way that they did. From our first conference call with Jason to the wedding day itself, you could tell how much passion Jason and his team has for his craft and business. He was courteous, professional, and kind throughout each interaction. Jason started out asking us pointed questions about our taste in music and what songs we have enjoyed the most on past wedding dance floors (we have been to a LOT of weddings.) We immediately loved his energy and knew that we were going with the right guy. After the initial interaction about a year ahead of the wedding date, I had to reach out to Jason’s team member, Angela, to check in on a few of my questions. Angela was also a star player - she was quick to respond and extremely friendly. Most importantly, Jason is extremely talented to boot. I had created pretty ambitious playlists for our wedding inspiration - between the cocktail hour, the dinner, and the dance floor, I thought that Jason was going to think that I was crazy. But, he didn’t even bat an eye and assured me that it was helpful. Not only that, he somehow weaved each and every request into the night. These playlists were over the amount of time that our wedding actually spanned across and Jason made it work. His transitions were great, his emceeing was awesome, and he lifted the weight out of our shoulders to make sure that our guests were having a good time. Finally, the photo booth!!! Such attention to detail and so many options to choose from. Our guests were living for this attraction and LOVED that we upgraded to 4x6 photos. The Photo Booth attendant was also extremely diligent about creating a take-home guest book for us to look through - such a highlight the day after the wedding. The downloadable copies are also a huge plus. I am an extremely picky critic when it comes to music, yet I cannot recommend Dawson Entertainment enough. Thank you again to Jason and the entire team at Dawson Entertainment. This is a 20/10 vendor to book.

Go no further looking for a DJ - Jason and his team are not only amazing to work with but could not have provided a better experience for our big day. A week later and guests are still talking about how great our DJ was, the dancefloor was packed all night. Thank you, Jason, Angela and team for making our night memorable for not just us but our guests as well!

DJ Dawson (Jason) was the DJ for our wedding several months ago in Rhode Island and he exceeded every expectation! From our very first call, we knew we wanted to work with him. He made the entire process easy, was incredibly organized, and patiently answered every question we had. About a week before the wedding, we changed our minds and decided we wanted to do a grand entrance. We told Jason our vision, and he delivered something even better than what we could have imagined! He was able to mix customized versions of the songs for our grand entrance and the father-bride dance based on our favorite parts and made sure everything flowed seamlessly. The dance floor stayed packed all night! Jason perfectly read the room and matched the energy even with only a short list of “must play” songs - he dialed in the vibe from the very start! Our guests even told us they couldn’t leave the dance floor because they were worried they would miss something! We genuinely can’t say enough good things about having Jason as our DJ. If you’re considering him for your event, do it. We’d recommend him without hesitation! Thank you Jason for an unforgettable night!

Jason was a fantastic DJ for our wedding at Saltwater Farm Vineyard! He was attentive and responsive throughout the entire planning process and helped us shape our vision. Jason did the audio for our wedding ceremony perfectly, with many guests noting that we sounded as clear as if we were standing right next to them. He chose songs and mixed throughout the reception by reading the room incredibly and set us up to have a fantastic and fun night without being obtrusive. Many guests commented that he was the best wedding DJ they had heard. We couldn't recommend Dawson more, it was one of the best decisions we made!
