When the building was initially constructed over a century ago, it was designed as a Presbyterian chapel in a completely different location. Built in 1918, the Carlisle Ribbon Mill was a functioning ribbon mill until 1987. The building sat mostly empty until the MCcarren family bought the property in 2003.
