Built in 1887 and a historic Boston landmark, the venue is named after Captain S. Dillon, who was stationed here from 1920-1950. Boston Opera House first opened in 1928 as the B.F Keith Memorial Theater. The lavish movie theater was designed in a combination of French and Italian styles by Thomas White Lamb, one of the foremost theater architects of his day. After a series of ownership changes, Boston Opera House was restored and renovated in late 2004 in order to accommodate the needs of large Broadway touring productions.
