There’s something special about a photograph and the way it makes us feel. It’s the only way I know how to freeze a moment - and all the sweet memories and feelings that go along with it - in time. As a child I always loved digging into family albums and yearbooks. They showed me where I came from and preserved all the things that made us who we are. Without these albums to look back on, there’s so much that would have slipped by forgotten. But now, I’m able to open an album and disappear back into some of the most beautiful days of my childhood.

My passion for photography and weddings began when I was very young. I staged Barbie weddings, making their dresses from Kleenex, then snuck Mom’s camera to take pictures of them. I moved on to dressing up my little sister in a pillowcase veil, again sneaking Mom’s camera. When she got tired of me using up all her film, she brought home several Bride magazines from the free pile at the library and I spent hours reading them, then pinning pages of beautiful wedding dresses on the ceiling of my bedroom. I have the most amazing memories from childhood of being cuddled up with my Granny going through old pictures. The joy and nostalgia that came from those old film photos where everything. My favorite part was always looking up at my Granny as she got lost in each individual memory, seeing her face shape shift in moments of grief over the past and then instant joy because she knew that she could relive that moment as long as she had those photos. Every time I pick up my camera I strive to create tangible moments that will last a lifetime.

The only thing I have left of my childhood best friend are memories and those memories, in my own aging, are slowly fading.
