The Waveny House

Beautiful but cramped!

Waveny is a beautiful venue with well maintained indoor and outdoor spaces. However, I wish that I had spent more time looking at other venues before booking with Waveny. If I could do it again, I would not have booked Waveny House for my wedding because of the size, layout, time constraints, and all the annoying rules that came with renting a town-owned property. We fell in love with the beautiful outdoor spaces at Waveny and optimistically booked our wedding for the end of May. It ended up being 55 degrees and rainy on our wedding day and we had to do the entire event inside. Waveny advertises that you can have up to 160 guests but we had 120 and it was extremely crowded and felt nearly impossible to have a space for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dining tables, and dance floor. We also had nowhere to take photos before the ceremony without there being caterers/tables in the background of every shot. This was very difficult to navigate. Luckily we had amazing vendors who helped us pull it off but it was cramped. Even if we were able to have our event outside, I think the back terrace would have been cramped with 120 guests plus space for a band and dance floor. I don't understand why Waveny no longer allows tents on the lawn, this seems like such a missed opportunity and wasted space. Waveny allows you to rent the building for 10 hours (leaving 1 hour at the end for vendors to clean up after the event). So that's only 9 hours for set up, photos, ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing. This is a pretty tight window. Again, we had amazing vendors who were able to set up everything in the 3 hours before guests arrived but I'm sure it was quite stressful and rushed for them. This also made photos before the ceremony even more stressful. Finally, Waveny said their elevator construction would be complete by the beginning of April 2026 and my wedding was at the end of May 2026. I assumed the project would run behind schedule but 7 weeks seemed like enough buffer. Wrong! The elevator was nowhere near complete by the time my wedding came. Waveny hung up an ugly black curtain over the construction space during events and called it a day. They absolutely should have and could have done a better job camouflaging the construction space or at the very least given us a partial refund. I strongly recommend considering your rain plan and guest count very carefully before booking Waveny House!
