About this venue
The Backyard is a family-friendly outdoor wine & beer garden and event space located on the corner of 13th & Railroad Streets in beautiful downtown Paso Robles. Our spacious outdoor venue is perfect for a casual get-together (or can be decorated to create a more formal setting) and is a very popular option for rehearsal dinners, wedding welcome receptions, and after parties. With available seating for up to 325 guests (and standing room for many more), we offer a variety of seating options for both small and large groups. 28 rotating taps showcase local craft beer, cider and wine. Choose to order off our catering menu for self-serve buffet style dining, create a custom limited menu for your group, or hire an outside caterer or private chef. The Backyard offers a casual atmosphere with everything needed onsite, options for all budgets, and a customized experience. Buyouts for private events are available. The Lawn is a semi-private fenced-in area featuring artificial grass, with surrounding bamboo providing additional privacy.
Six traditional German beer garden tables and benches each seat 6-8 adults comfortably. Bar stools around the perimeter provide additional seating for 13 more guests. The Lawn is a favorite space for families with young children and those seeking a little more privacy. Note: There is some shade, but no heaters in the Lawn. Propane heaters may be rented.

Side Yard
The Side Yard is an open-air space situated between the Main Patio and 13th Street with seating for up to 60 guests and standing room for 40 more.
The area can be roped off and signage posted to ensure privacy for you and your guests. The Stage is located here, perfect for live music or a DJ. Traditional German biergarten tables and benches provide table seating, with bar stools along the 13th street fence line and patio furniture & lawn chairs providing additional seating. Note: There are a few umbrellas and propane heaters, but no shade structures or misters in the Side Yard. Additional propane heaters may be rented.

Private Event / Buy-Out – The Backyard can be reserved for private gatherings, providing you with exclusive access to all of our staff and facilities.

More Than a Wedding Venue: They Became Family
We had our wedding at The Backyard on 13th, and I honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience. From the moment we started working with Amy and her team, we knew we had chosen the right place to celebrate such an important day. We were the first full wedding that The Backyard on 13th had hosted. You honestly never would have known it. The amount of care, attention to detail, patience, organization, and professionalism that Amy and her team showed throughout our wedding was incredible. They handled everything with such confidence and made the entire experience feel seamless. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful and has so much character. It gave us the perfect backdrop for our ceremony, photos, and reception, and our guests had nothing but wonderful things to say about the space. We loved that it felt intimate, warm, and personal while still giving us the flexibility to bring our own vision to life. Amy and her entire team went above and beyond what was expected of them. They were incredibly attentive, patient, professional, and genuinely invested in making sure our wedding day was everything we hoped it would be. They didn’t just provide us with a beautiful venue — they made us feel cared for throughout the entire process. One of the things that meant the most to us was how incredible they were with our kids. We had several children who were an important part of our wedding, and The Backyard had a staff member specifically designated to tend to the kids during the reception. This was such an amazing and thoughtful touch. It allowed us to actually relax, enjoy our reception, and be present in the moment without constantly worrying about whether our kids were okay. Knowing they were being looked after by people who were so kind, patient, and attentive made a HUGE difference for us. Your wedding day goes by so quickly, and having a team that you can trust makes all the difference. We never felt like we were just another event on their calendar. Amy and her team made us feel like our wedding genuinely mattered to them, and that is something we will always remember. We are so grateful to The Backyard on 13th, Amy, and the entire team for helping make our wedding day so special. They played such a huge part in creating memories that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. What started as a relationship with our wedding venue turned into something so much more — Amy and her team have truly become more like family to us, and we feel incredibly lucky that our wedding brought these amazing people into our lives. Laid-Back Perfection: Unforgettable & Stress-Free
I can't say enough good things about The Backyard on Thirteenth! We held our wedding reception there in April 2021, and it was an absolutely perfect experience. From the very beginning, owners Rus and Amy went above and beyond to help us prepare. Planning a wedding is always stressful, but we were doing so during COVID, which added a whole extra layer of complexity. We also lived about 4 hours away and hadn't even seen the space in person before booking. Rus and Amy's communication, flexibility, and genuine care made us feel completely confident in our decision. The venue itself was everything we wanted and more. It had a private, laid-back atmosphere that was exactly the vibe we were going for. It wasn't just a beautiful space; it also offered fantastic beer and wine! Since our wedding, we've returned to The Backyard on Thirteenth for other events, and it truly feels like a home away from home. It's a special place, and we're so grateful to Rus and Amy for making our wedding reception so unforgettable. Perfect place for wedding welcome reception!
The Backyard on Thirteenth was the perfect venue for our welcome reception. They communicated very well throughout the entire planning process, and were incredibly flexible in working with us on different package options to fit our budget. The Backyard team helped us decorate and set up for our special day, and they worked closely with us on the timing to ensure the event went smoothly. Weddings can be so expensive, so we were thrilled to find a venue that could provide a beautiful and seamless welcome reception experience within our budget. Simply amazing in all respects. We hosted a wedding weekend from out of town and from the moment we contacted Amy about using some of her space for a Wedding Welcome Party the night prior everything went smooth and wonderful. Amy was very responsive and easy to talk with about what we wanted as well as accommodating to our requests. We thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor space on a warm August evening and when it turned chilly the staff was quick to get heaters and fire pits going for us. We did a buffet of light bites and drink tickets, was perfect for our guests and affordable for us. If guests desired more to eat or drink that was on them and their orders arrived quickly and were delicious. We were also in need of a Jockey box for serving beer at the winery venue the following day. The Backyard is the ONLY place in Paso Robles and the surrounding area that has one for rent. And, they provided us with clear instructions on how to set it up and use it appropriately. Wonderful experience all around.
