Welcome to The Mitten Building! Originally constructed in 1890 as the Haigh Citrus Packing House, the building later operated as the Mitten Letter Factory from 1940 to 1980. Today, thanks to the current owners’ dedication to preserving its historical charm, the space boasts original brick walls, exposed rafters, and rich wood details. Since 2000, our family has proudly hosted a wide range of events in its versatile spaces, including the multi-level Main Room, the cozy basement Speakeasy Bar, and the Summerbell Room with its enchanting Garden Patio. See the high end touches of our venue as host of the CWD Best of Awards - video below (we were a finalist for best ballroom venue and best indoor venue). 440 Elm is an elegant historic ballroom for a luxurious wedding. Built in 1913 by Elmer Grey, we host wedding receptions ranging between about 125 and 400 guests with matching outdoor space for ceremonies. Our exclusive in-house catering provides a wide range of menus with different themes and service formats, including California, Asian, Indian, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern influenced items in formats ranging from passed to buffet to family-style to plated to live chef stations. Our downtown Long Beach location offers a perfect spot for those with guests coming from San Diego to Los Angeles or from our of the area. While we primarily host larger weddings, we do host micro weddings with lower minimums 5-9 months out. Please ask for details.
