We had our wedding at Met Cafe on September 21, 2024, and I can honestly say it was everything Chris and I dreamed of and more. From the very beginning (from touring Met Cafe to the day of the wedding), the experience was seamless. Des So (venue owner) went above and beyond to help us coordinate every detail for our wedding of nearly 200 guests with my wedding coordinator (Jennette Le- Lilo Weddings). His care, professionalism, and attention to detail truly made the day unforgettable while making coordination between all vendors seamless. One of the most magical moments of the day was our first look on the rooftop, with the stunning view of the National Monument behind us. It was picture perfect, literally. We took some of our favorite wedding photos there, and it gave our day an elevated, iconic DC/urban city feel that we’ll treasure forever. The venue itself was beautifully set up to reflect the fusion of cultures (Chinese, Korean, Laotian) we hoped to celebrate. The layout, decor, and overall vibe perfectly captured that feeling of warmth, love, and unity. Throughout the day, our family/friends kept commenting on how well everything came together. It wasn’t just a wedding, it felt like an experience that brought everyone closer, which is exactly what we wanted. And the food, literally chefs kiss- amazing! The venue’s in-house catering absolutely blew everyone away. Multiple guests told us it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had (and we agree!). Every bite was delicious and thoughtfully prepared, from hors d'oeuvres to dessert. We are beyond thankful to Met Cafe and our vendors for making our wedding not just a special day, but a joyful, meaningful celebration of love, family, and community. Although we decided to have a garden ceremony and not a church ceremony, it was important for our families to feel at home. Our initial ask of Fr. David was not to officiate our ceremony (because we had a courthouse ceremony also planned), but to deliver a homily. However, over time, my and my partner's plans expanded slightly to include other aspects of a traditional Catholic wedding (blessings for the parents and godparents, the cord ceremony, etc.). Fr. David was more than accommodating and so supportive throughout our journey. With his support and understanding, we felt very comfortable incorporating these aspects of tradition that mean so much to us and our families, while still making the ceremony uniquely our own. He is so gentle, encouraging, and warm, and strikes the perfect balance between signifying authority given the importance of the occasion, and providing commentary to elicit laughter. We feel very blessed for Fr. David to be a significant part of our special day!

Our guests are still raving about the delicious dishes, from the beautifully presented appetizers to the decadent desserts. Kelton from Marquee Artists was amazing! He was a communicative and active participant in the planning of the music and the announcements at my wedding on March 9. Kelton provided an extensive list of potential songs to play in a shared Google Document with columns for “play” and “do not play” which was great. Also, I was impressed that he attended the walk through of the Whittemore House a month prior to the wedding, asking pertinent questions of the Whittemore staff about the placement of various things and how best to provide the sound amplification that would be needed. He provided wireless mics which worked really well for the toasts. Kelton did a great job as the master of ceremony and his mix of the selected music was fun and fabulous. He had the crowd dancing, rocking to the music. Many of the older folks told me that they hadn’t danced in years but were having lots of fun doing so then. Having him on our wedding team instilled so much confidence in me, my daughter and new son-in-law, who is an amateur DJ. They were so taken by Kelton that, if possible, they would like to attend future events at which Kelton is the DJ!! I HIGHLY recommend him.

She’s never met a detail she couldn’t wrangle or a problem she couldn’t solve. You can always expect Janice to keep it real — a communication style you’ll be thankful for when dealing with budgets, wedding day mania, and drunk Uncle Ted.

My husband and I found Janice through her blog and were drawn to her transparency about an industry that can often feel opaque and hard to navigate. We met with two other potential planners, but we decided to follow our initial instinct and put our trust in Janice. She did not disappoint! Janice kept the entire planning process incredibly organized and did an amazing job of finding vendors that aligned with our (sometimes very specific) vision. Anytime we started to feel overwhelmed, Janice was ready with a detailed timeline, polite-but-firm reminder emails, and a very encouraging attitude. Janice was also very receptive and enthusiastic about helping us incorporate important cultural elements into our day that she had not had experience previously (ex. A Japanese kagami biraki ceremony). Most importantly, Janice was extremely reliable. For example, my bridesmaids and I were supposed to get our hair and make-up done at a hotel the morning of the wedding, but after we woke up to a power outage and alerted Janice, she immediately jumped into action arranging a new location and updating the beauty and photo teams about the change. She then raced over to the hotel to help me and my MOHs pack up my wedding dress, shoes, accessories, and bridesmaids gifts and convinced the concierge to let us use the emergency freight elevator so that we wouldn’t have to run down 15 flights of stairs. Her husband drove us all to the alternate location and, miraculously, all of the hair, make-up, group photos, and dressing were completed with a whopping 15 minutes to spare! Despite the early morning switch-up, the rest of the day went off without a hitch and we knew the wedding couldn’t have gone as smoothly as it did if it weren’t for Janice’s work (both in the planning and the day-of coordination). We are so glad to have hired Janice and 100% recommend Bellwether Events.

We decided on the Tower Club to hold our 40th wedding anniversary party at and it exceeded our expectations! The venue was very impressive with amazing views on all sides of the Washington DC metro area. Our guests enjoyed being able to spend the cocktail hour either inside or on the outdoor wrap-around terrace on the 17th floor. The drinks were varied (including cocktails like mojitos) and the food was perfectly done and delicious. The space allowed our guests to transition easily between the dining room to the vestibule which contained the bar and dance floor. The evening went off without a hitch and our guests stayed till closing as they were having such a good time. Of particular note was our event executive, Ms. Lindsay Rhoades. She was very welcoming and easy to talk with, listening carefully to our vision of the event and making appropriate suggestions. It was her wonderful personality that initially impressed us. During the process leading up to the event, Lindsay was always on top of the preparations, was able to answer all our questions and make requested adjustments to our plans for the event. We are very glad we chose the Tower Club for our event and would put them first on our list for any future events or parties.

During the trial run, the hair stylist, Mona, took my vague description of "Game of Thrones but maybe a bit Jane Austen?" and gave me a gorgeous braided updo. On the wedding day, Marquita and Mona arrived on time and finished hair and makeup for me and the ladies in our wedding party (who also looked fabulous) with time to spare. When it came time to plan our own wedding, we weren’t completely sold on the idea of a wedding planner, but our friends told us how we should consider it because of their experience with Create You Events. For them, Vicky and her team were able to assist with a lot of the burden of wedding planning and coordination and said their help was definitely worth the added cost. We remembered the positive first impression we had when we saw them in action at our friend's wedding and decided to have an introductory call. Vicky and her team were very flexible on the services and packages to meet our specific needs. We ultimately decided to have them help us with planning, design/decorations, and day of coordination. For planning, Vicky and the team showed their expertise in the wedding industry. For us, we weren’t as familiar with all the terminology and customs for weddings and Vicky was able to guide us through everything from the best way to talk to vendors and what to look for when touring our venue. She helped keep us on schedule in terms of what work needed to be done throughout the months leading up to the wedding date, and was great at motivating us throughout the process. She and her team stayed up late through the night to do planning calls with us, and were always available and responsive for any questions we had. The team members were so patient and understanding, and great sounding boards for every detailed decision, no matter how small. When my wife had minor decision fatigue melt-downs over whether or not to pay extra for chargers and colorful linens, or which exact flowers to include in the bouquets, Vicky and her team were there to talk through our thought process and help us get to a decision we felt comfortable with. We also had the Create You Events team help us with designing our wedding invites, menus, programs, and signage, which all came out beautifully. They really understood what we were looking for in terms of colors and styles and were able to just take some sample Pinterest pictures to be able to make amazing designs for us. As for the wedding day itself, we ran into many logistical issues with our venue and the (lack of) venue staff. Vicky and her team really stepped up to fill in multiple roles last minute, and make sure everything went smoothly for us. There were so many issues that we didn't even know about, and the Create You team handled them seamlessly. Looking back, we’re so glad we decided to spend the money to have the Create You Events team help us for our wedding. If you’re thinking about having a team help you out for an event, we highly recommend hiring Vicky and her team. Their support and guidance during our wedding planning process and during the wedding day itself were really indispensable.

The Tschiffely-Kent property has been a landmark along Darnestown Road since 1900. The stately mansion was built by Frederick Tschiffely, and later sold to Otis Beall Kent in 1942. The elegant property now belongs to the City of Gaithersburg, and is an ideal venue for weddings, receptions, social functions and business meetings.

Everyone told us when selecting a photographer to make sure you are comfortable with them since they are involved in some of the most intimate moments of your day - and while that was true - he managed to get so many great shots without intruding or in some cases even being noticed. Nicole and Jose of Bokeh Lane Photography are simply wonderful! So energetic and creative! They shot our engagement session and are slated to shoot our wedding whenever COVID allows for that. We wanted a photographer that has a great eye for candid shots and heard about these two from a friend who had their engagement and wedding shot by them. My friend’s pictures were beautiful, so I reached out to Nicole and Jose. They helped us with every step of the process, even with picking out outfits before the shoot. They’re kind and professional and just so easy to work with. I am not used to being in front of the camera, whereas my fiance is a natural in front of the camera. I told them that up front and they made sure to make me feel comfortable while just letting my fiance be himself, and the pictures came out so great! They are highly responsive as far as communication goes and prices are extremely reasonable for such high quality work. Highly highly recommend!
