Our names are Craig and Nancy Rogge, and we have lived on and owned this property for almost 40 years. We have raised two children here and have used our barns and property all these years to raise horses, cows, chickens, ducks, rabbits, cats, and dogs. We have many years of wonderful memories and stories on our little piece of paradise! Our barns were built in 1944 by a previous owner, Walter Kurzweil, who our street is named after and who used the property and barns for a dairy farm. Fast forward to 2021, when we began The Rogge Family Vineyard and Event Space, our hope has been and still is to offer a private party rental space rich in rustic barn charm for the hosting of your joyful and memorable event.

Most Kansas City barn venues offer significant flexibility with décor, lighting, and layout—especially those featuring open interiors and high ceilings that accommodate uplighting, draping, and seasonal florals. However, rustic wooden beams and existing architectural features are typically permanent, so couples should choose venues whose bones align with their vision.
Kansas City's variable weather (particularly spring and fall winds, plus occasional rain) means the best barn venues include covered entry areas and contingency plans for outdoor ceremonies. Many in neighborhoods like the Crossroads and Brookside feature flexible indoor/outdoor configurations.
When comparing venues, ask about restrictions on: lighting installation (some require licensed electricians), open flame policies (important for candles and fire pits), and structural modifications. Top-rated venues like Berry Acres and Countryside Chalet are known for working collaboratively with couples and planners to customize while preserving the barn's authentic character.
Barn venues vary widely in what they provide, so it's important to ask before booking. Some barns come with basic structures like tables, chairs, and lighting, while others offer a blank canvas where you bring in everything. Many venues in the $4,250 median starting price range include the building itself, restrooms, and parking—but décor customization often costs extra.
Here's what to clarify with your venue:
- Whether linens, centerpieces, and floral arrangements are included or rented separately
- If the venue provides uplighting, string lights, or other ambient lighting
- What happens if weather requires moving indoors (some barns have covered areas)
- Whether you can bring in outside decorators or if they have preferred vendors
- If ceremony and reception spaces both allow full customization
Most barn venues love personalization—that's part of their charm. Get a detailed walkthrough of what's included in your package, and don't hesitate to ask for photos of other weddings to see decoration possibilities. This helps you budget accurately for flowers, rentals, and design elements.
Kansas City's wedding venues book quickly, especially during peak season (April through October). We recommend securing your venue 12 to 18 months in advance if you're planning a spring or summer wedding. If you're flexible with a fall or winter date, you may find availability with 6 to 9 months' notice.
Popular neighborhoods and venues can fill even faster, particularly for Saturdays. Starting your search early also gives you time to compare options and align your venue choice with your overall budget—venue rental typically accounts for about 13% of your total wedding budget, according to the Zola Wedding Cost Index. The sooner you book, the better your selection and negotiating power.
