About Photokindred

Joel Wiebner, Photokindred

owner and photographer

Hello and thank you for taking the time to learn about me and my work. It is my goal to create images that are natural, alive, and hopefully unlike anything you've ever seen before. I have been doing this since 2001 and I'd love the chance to be part of your day.

A great photograph isn't just a pretty location or a practiced smile. It's the connection living inside it. The understanding that runs deeper than any photography technique. You want a photographer who moves through your day quietly, naturally, like someone who really wants to be there. Whose presence protects the moment rather than interrupting it. I've spent my career learning how to do exactly that. What I'm after are the things you feel. The joy, the love, the threads that tie you all together. My goal is to find those threads and hold my camera up like a mirror, so you can see it the way I did.

A photographer who captured our love perfectly

Joel, thank you for the incredible work you put into capturing our wedding day. Your passion, creativity, and dedication truly shines through every photo. You worked tirelessly to make sure every moment was persevered, and somehow you managed to capture not just the moment, but the love and emotion behind them. We are beyond grateful for everything you did to make our memories last a lifetime. Thank you for your hard work, kindness, and talent. We couldn’t have asked for a better photographer. We will cherish these photos forever. Highly recommended!!

Joel is one of a kind

Joel is an amazing photographic storyteller. He has a vision for photos that are not your everyday, posed pictures. Joel photographed my husband and me for both our engagement and our wedding. Our photos show love, laughter and real moments. They show us and the love that surrounds us. Joel is precise and professional but he has a very warm demeanor that makes it easy to follow his direction. Joel will do what it takes to get the photo he envisions- even if that means laying in a puddle or wading into a stream- he will bless you with photographs that will undoubtedly be the most beautiful part of your special days. I am not one that likes to be photographed and even I have found photos that make me appreciate my own beauty. If a photographer can do that, he’s not just good- he’s amazing. We are beyond grateful for his artistry and will always be back for more.

    Uniquely Perfect

Joel has been our family's 'go to' photographer for years! He captured beautiful moments before, during, and after our wedding, extended family photos, sweet pictures of our daughter, and a more than memorable surrogacy journey. As I write this, I vividly see the images Joel took of each session and get emotional. The raw talent and artistic eye that Joel possesses is more than something that has been taught. I cannot speak more highly of Joel's work, you will not be disappointed! Professionally, Joel turns around his work in record timing! I've never known a photographer to so swiftly edit and produce the caliber of photos that Joel does! Additionally, Joel's personality makes even those who despise their picture being taken feel instantly comfortable. He doesn't require a certain pose or light to be able to capture the best of you, your family, or event. Joel works with and for you!

    Each moment captured, perfectly.

Joel shot our February wedding and I could not recommend him enough! He takes the time to get to know you and what your vision is. Then combines it with his unique and creative approach to capturing all of the moments. The staged portraits, the laughs, the tears, the sentimental looks, all of them. Somehow he manages to capture everyone’s unique personalities! He has an artful eye and a personable way that makes everyone comfortable. He was a joy to work with.

    Captured our love story perfectly!

We truly cannot say enough good things about our experience. From the very beginning, he went above and beyond—driving all the way out to our forest to capture our engagement photos in a setting that felt deeply personal to us. He didn’t just take pictures; he took the time to understand who we are, and it shows in every single shot. Those engagement photos were already breathtaking, but somehow he made our small backyard wedding feel just as meaningful and beautifully told. He captured the quiet, intimate moments alongside the joy and emotion of the day in a way that feels so genuine and true to us. What stood out most was how comfortable he made us feel. Nothing felt forced or overly posed—just natural, candid moments that we’ll treasure forever. Every photo brings us right back to those moments. If you’re looking for someone who is not only incredibly talented but also willing to go the extra mile (literally!) to make your vision come to life, we couldn’t recommend him more highly.

Typically, couples book me about 13 months before their wedding date. I encourage you to reach out as soon as possible about my availability, even if you’re planning on a shorter time frame.
Sometimes, I may bring an assistant along with me (if you consent) to carry bags, floof the dress or just be an extra set of hands. A second photographer is always an option and can be added at any time.
Absolutely. Pro cameras just don't create ready to print images. There is always an editing process involved. I review every image for color toning, contrast and other surface level changes. My goal is true to life color that looks great in print as well as online.
In less than 72 hours (in the busiest season) you will have a preview in your inbox. After that, no more than 2 weeks you will see the full set. This is in my contract. You can hold me to it. I want you to see your images as much as you do. Like seriously, can't stress this enough.
How much stuff is going on? It's a tough question to answer with an exact number, but I can tell you I average about 70-100 images per hour of coverage. The more you have going on the more images you get.
I do! Just let me know if your venue requires a certificate of liability, and I’ll send that over to them.
Eh, I don't really have one. And honestly? I think that's a good thing. The "crazy wedding story" photographers tell at parties usually means something went wrong. Those stories are entertaining in retrospect, but they came at someone's expense, on the most important day of their lives. My job is to read a room, anticipate moments, and move through your day so quietly that nothing feels disrupted. The couples I've worked with didn't have chaotic days. And I'd like to think that's at least partly intentional.
Because I can. I see myself as an empathetic person who appreciates the love and connection among people. I am a bit of an odd duck in that I am a total introvert, but I LOVE to be at a party watching the fun and seeing the stories play out. I may not be the best conversationalist, even a bit awkward at times, but I live for making images. When I get into it I am INTO it. I have long hated the phrase, "my passion is photography", because everyone says it. I think it is true though.
People. Specifically, my wife, my kids and the family and chosen family in my life. Those important relationships inspire what I see in yours. It's really simple when you think about it.
