About Doug Hyde Photographer

Doug Hyde Photographer

Authentic. Timeless. Story-Driven Wedding Photography.

I'm a people photographer, an individual not a company. This is a second career for me. My photography experience goes back all my adult life—it’s a love, a passion, my craft and art. I’ve been selling photos for six years, working full-time as a professional photographer for four, and photographing weddings for three. I’ve shot more than 65 weddings, from small and intimate ceremonies to large, lively celebrations.

My photo style is mostly narrative/documentary. I capture the events and special moments of your day as they unfold—start to finish. It’s a variation of “lifestyle” photography: natural photos, unposed images, and unscripted moments. I say “mostly” because I also mix in traditional, classic wedding pictures of the bride and groom, families, and wedding parties. I'm super easy to work with. You'll get an agreement laying out all that I'll do. Small deposit. We'll catch up again before the actual date. I'll be there to capture wonderful photos. In a reasonable timeframe, you will get a large gallery of edited photos.

Thoughtful, Talented, and a Joy to Work With

Doug is an incredible wedding photographer in the Boston area, and we could not recommend him more highly to capture your special day. A few reasons we were so happy to work with Doug: 1. He is an exceptionally talented photographer. Doug documented all the moments we were hoping for, as well as many beautiful candid shots of us and our guests. Even with tricky weather (rainy day) and last-minute schedule changes (e.g., some family members not coming on time for group photos), he stayed calm and adaptable and delivered a wonderful set of photos that truly captured the emotions of the day. 2. He is skilled at working with people. During our couple and family / friend group portraits he provided just enough guidance to help us feel comfortable without anything feeling staged. This made us feel like we used the time together effectively, while making the photos feel natural and joyful. 3. He is comfortable navigating different cultural and religious contexts. Doug had experience shooting a Catholic wedding, which was tremendously helpful for us, and he was very respectful of our requests (for example, no photography of guests receiving the Eucharist). We also told him about small modifications to the ceremony reflecting South Indian traditions, and he made sure to capture those beautifully. 4. He is a great communicator. Doug was easy to reach via text and email and consistently quick to respond to our questions before and after the wedding. His website clearly explains his photography philosophy, which made us confident from the start that he was the right fit. 5. His pricing is extremely fair. We were planning a low-key wedding on a budget in the Boston area, and Doug’s pricing made it possible for us to capture our day without overspending, while still receiving high-quality, professional photos. We are so grateful we chose Doug and would enthusiastically recommend him to any couple looking for a thoughtful, skilled, and reliable wedding photographer. I have attached a few of our favorite photos from the day in a compressed format (given Zola restrictions).

    Wedding Photographer

Doug Hyde Photographer was the perfect choice for our wedding photography. From our first meeting, we found their communication style to be easy, professional, and friendly, making the process completely stress-free. His work is truly outstanding - Doug has a great eye for creativity and captures high-quality, memorable pictures. He took the time to understand exactly what we wanted, even setting up pre-meetings to ensure he met our expectations. Doug has now photographed two of our major life events, and his turnaround time is remarkably quick. I highly recommend Doug Hyde Photographer to any couple looking for a reliable, talented photographer to capture their special day.

    A Wonderful Experience!

Doug was great! We had a small city hall ceremony and Doug's photos captured the day beautifully. We made our favorite photos into an announcement postcard, and several recipients remarked that the photos were beautifully composed. The photos were sent to us promptly after the event and were easily accessible, which made for easy ordering of prints and cards. I would (& have!) gladly recommended Doug to anyone looking to get their special day photographed by a professional!

    Excellent Wedding and Engagement Photography

Doug is exceptional to work with. Doug is very friendly and my wife and I highly recommend him. He took great engagement and wedding photos. For the wedding, he moved around without being noticed to very effectively to capture every moment with a variety of angles of us, our family and friends and the church. He similarly captured great moments in the reception.

    He's the absolute best!

We have contacted Doug twice. Once when my husband and I renewed our vows and then when I got pregnant and wanted to do a maternity photoshoot. Both times he was wonderful. He is kind and polite and takes the most beautiful photos. He really knows how to capture the beauty! We are actually going to see him again in December as we are going to do some photos with our girl who is almost one year old now! Seriously, if you haven't contacted him yet, what are you waiting for? He's the absolute best.

All the photos I deliver are reviewed and edited by me personally. I take this important part of my job quite seriously. I've taken editing coursework (RISD) and I continue to build my skills. Without question, the most important photos get the most editing attention by me to get them as perfect as they can be, but all are touched. Let me write as well that I sometimes miss details that turn out to be important to my clients. It has happened. I do welcome all client input and do my best to address all reasonable wishes even if it requires additional editing.
While my forte is photography, I also do video. About a third of my wedding clients sign up for a "wedding video" that I produce with video clips and photos put together in one storyline, put to music with titles and credits. 10 to 20 minutes max. The video sources can come off a second camera I run off a tripod, or off my main camera while I'm not taking photos. This engagement video is in this style, much shorter, but a good example of my video work: https://youtu.be/eW-0GtQMPfg I do recommend a dedicated videographer for couples that want production-quality videos throughout a long wedding day.
I commit to delivering photos 2-6 weeks after your wedding. Some of this is seasonal, as busier times may push me to the upper limit. That said, I don't like sitting on photos or getting behind and I often surprise my clients with much faster turnarounds.
I average 50 to 100 per hour. I did six non-elope weddings in the last three month and the average was 415 delivered, with a low of 270 and a high of 537. These drive higher photo counts -- more wedding aspects such as pre-wedding, first look, ceremony, long reception; more people as I aim to capture everyone multiple times; if I'm also doing video which will dampen the photo count; etc.
I do! Just let me know if your venue requires a certificate of liability, and I’ll send that over to them.
While I often work by myself, I am able to add a second photographer if there is a desire or need.
Yes! Here are options I offer: - Engagement Photo Session. $200 with 20% credited towards a wedding package. - Additional hour of coverage. $200 / hour. - Second photographer. $75 / hour. 2-hour minimum. - Heirloom album. Starting at $300.
