Rev. Laurel Gray (she/her)

Rev. Laurel is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister with several years of experience serving in congregations. Trained at Yale Divinity School, Rev. Laurel is well-versed in working with couples of diverse religious or non-religious backgrounds. Prior to ministry, Rev. Laurel worked in the wedding industry in San Francisco and Napa Valley.

As a UU minister, I am well-equipped to work with couples with diverse religious and non-religious backgrounds. Together, we’ll create a ceremony that uniquely represents your relationship and values. If couples are looking for a historic venue for their ceremony, they may choose to rent the First Religious Society sanctuary, located in downtown Newburyport. I am also happy to officiate at venues off-site.

    Thank you, Reverend Laurel!

    We worked with Reverend Laurel as our wedding officiant, and we cannot recommend her highly enough. She was kind, professional, thoughtful, and made the ceremony planning process feel so much more manageable from the very beginning. As an interfaith couple, having a ceremony that authentically reflected both of our backgrounds was incredibly important to us. Reverend Laurel helped us thoughtfully weave together elements from both of our traditions into a ceremony that felt deeply meaningful, balanced, and uniquely our own. She took the time to get to know us as a couple, listened carefully to what mattered most to each of us, and paid close attention to every detail. Her guidance helped us create a ceremony that honored our families, our traditions, and our relationship in a way that felt completely true to us. The ceremony was so special and felt exactly as meaningful, authentic, and personal as we had hoped. Afterward, many of our guests told us it was their favorite part of the day too, and several said it was one of the most beautiful and intentional ceremonies they had ever attended. We really attribute that to Reverend Laurel’s thoughtfulness and care. We are so grateful she was our officiant and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a wedding ceremony that feels personal, meaningful, and beautifully led.

    Magical wedding ceremony with Rev. Laurel

    Rev. Laurel was incredible during the planning of our ceremony, and the day of. She assisted us in building an order of service from start to finish, with really great suggestions and outlines. She was so communicative leading up to the wedding with all the little questions and details. On the day of the wedding, my (now) husband and I were a bit jittery with adrenaline and nerves. She was incredibly calm and left us feeling so peaceful and at ease in her care at the altar. She was so on top of everything from the rehearsal to the inevitable bit of chaos on the wedding day, we are so unbelievably grateful and appreciative of her, and so happy we found her in Newburyport!

    Laurel is the BEST!!!!!

    Having Laurel as our wedding officiant was the best decision ever! She made the whole process so easy. She’s so easy to talk to, really cares and gets to know you and your partner, and provides the best advice! She is the best person to make your special day even more special and meaningful. She helped us create a custom ceremony that was tailored to both my and my spouse’s preferences. One of the reasons we chose Laurel was because she is so well spoken and really cares about you. She even wore a special outfit that coordinated with our wedding colors! She really goes the extra mile and should be the easiest YES of all your wedding vendors! Rest easy if you choose Laurel!!!

Yes, all ceremonies are co-created with the couple to represent their relationship, background, and religious preferences.
Yes, I do recommend doing a rehearsal so everyone is familiar with the ceremony plan before the wedding itself. The rehearsal fee is included in my officiant cost.
Absolutely! I'm happy to craft a ceremony to represent your love and commitment.
I don't require premarital counseling, but I'm happy to offer it in addition to officiant services. For ceremony planning, I typically meet with the couple once so we can get to know each other, and then once or twice more to finalize the service details. Meetings can be in-person or virtual, depending on your needs.
