Travel Note

Ways to get to St. Andrews

1. Fly into Edinburgh airport. From there, you can either take a train from Edinburgh’s Waverly Station to Leuchars Station, then take the 12-minute bus ride to St. Andrews. Here is the link to book train tickets: https://www.thetrainline.com/. The train journey takes about an hour. Having cash on hand to pay for a bus ticket is helpful. 2. Or alternatively, you can hire a private car/shuttle to take you to and from the airport. St Andrews Airport Shuttle is excellent. https://www.standrewsshuttle.com/ 3. Fly into Glasgow airport. You can also take the train from Glasgow Queen Street to Leuchars Station and then take the bus from Leuchars to St Andrews. Or book a private car through St Andrews Shuttles. 4. For more extensive information on traveling to St Andrews by plane, rail or car see the guidance on the St. Andrews University site: https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/visiting/travel/

Travel Note

Do I need a car to get around in St. Andrews?

No, you don’t! St. Andrews is a very small, walkable town. Buses can also transport you around St Andrews, with the Bus station located only a few minutes from the town center, located on City Road, St. Andrews, KY16, 9HW. From the bus station, you can go to the Leuchars Train Station, and go almost anywhere in Scotland (and England). Book tickets ahead at trainline.co.uk. If you want to hire a car, car rental is available at most airports. There is also car hire in nearby towns of Dundee and Cupar. Please note that parking in St Andrews is extremely limited.
