The hiking options are far more than we could ever list on our website. For a real adventure, the tea house hike from Lake Louise is quite special. We also recommend Ha Ling for a unique view of the wedding site. All Trails is a fantastic app for finding hiking trails worldwide as well. You really can't go wrong!
Hike to the top of Ha Ling, the most notable peak visible from our ceremony site at Quarry Lake, to get an aerial view of where we will say I do!
To witness the iconic turquoise water caused by sediment from glaciers, there are several great lakes to check out: Peyto Lake, Bow Lake, Lake Louise, and Lake Moraine are top choices. Lake Louise and Lake Moraine are easiest to access by purchasing a shuttle or transit option as parking is limited or not allowed respectively. See the link below for information on getting to these two lakes. Peyto Lake and Bow Lake are about an hour from the town of Banff and can be accessed by car with Peyto lake requiring a moderate walk along trails to reach the view points.
Johnston Canyon is an easier to moderate paved trail with great waterfall views. If driving, arrive early to ensure parking and a more intimate trail experience. When we visited, we arrived just before 8am and it was not too crowded.
Hop aboard a bus and travel around in search of local mountain wildlife like bears, elk, and moose!
Check out a wide selection of tours from Discover Banff to explore key landmarks in the area.
Several companies operate float trips and white water rafting along the Bow River at various locations. You can even rent canoes right along the waterfront in Downtown Banff. Sites like getyourguide.com will offer several options if this activity sounds like fun to you!
Take in some of the best view of the region at the top of the Gondola ride.
The natural hot springs made Banff famous, and you can still relax in the modern location with stunning views!
This is one of our favorite experiences from our first trip to Banff. Walk atop a glacier after a stunning drive along Icefields Parkway. You can drive a rental car or many tours will go to the glacier and nearby activities directly from Banff. We recommend taking an empty bottle to fill up with fresh glacier water!
Meet and observe wolf dogs at this sanctuary located between Banff and Calgary. It's a great stop on your way to or from the airport and sure to be unforgettable.
Cave and Basin offers a unique view into the history of Banff and the thermal waters that led to the establishment of Canada's first national park.
In Canmore, the coffee shop inside The Malcolm Hotel is an excellent choice. Eclipse Coffee Roasters is also a local favorite. In Banff, we loved White Bark Coffee, Sudden Sally, Downtown Sally, and Little Wild.
In Canmore check out these great options for dinner: Crazyweed Kitchen, The Bridgette Bar, Where the Buffalo Roam. For fine dining, try Sauvage or Ankor. If you are looking for a more casual vibe Tank 310, The Grizzly Paw Pub, and The Blake Restaurant are great options. In Banff, we loved our meals at The Bison, Park Distillery (great for drinks as well), and Good Folk, but there are many more great options to choose from. Lupo, Bluebird, and Fat Ox come highly recommended. If the Rimrock Hotel is done with construction by our wedding date, their fine dining experience is one of the best meals we've had in our entire life. Alberta in general is known for their steak and meat options due to a large ranching industry. If you enjoy steak, this is a great place to get one.
Check out Silvertip Golf Course and Stewart Creek Golf Course near Canmore or Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel Course in Banff if you are looking for a round of golf with a stunning backdrop!
